模块综合测评(二)
Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
The
garden
city
was
largely
the
invention
of
Ebenezer
Howard(1850-1928).After
immigrating
from
England
to
the
USA,and
an
unsuccessful
attempt
to
make
a
living
as
a
farmer,he
moved
to
Chicago,where
he
saw
the
reconstruction
of
the
city
after
the
disastrous
fire
of
1871.In
those
days,it
was
nicknamed“the
Garden
City”,almost
certainly
the
source
of
Howard's
name
for
his
later
building
plan
of
towns.Returning
to
London,Howard
developed
his
design
in
the
1880s
and
1890s,drawing
on
ideas
that
were
popular
at
the
time,but
creating
a
unique
combination
of
designs.
The
nineteenth century
poor
city
was
in
many
ways
a
terrible
place,dirty
and
crowded,but
it
offered
economic
and
social
opportunities.At
the
same
time,the
British
countryside
was
in
fact
equally
unattractive:
though
it
promised
fresh
air
and
nature,it
suffered
from
agricultural
depression(萧条)and
it
offered
neither
enough
work
and
wages,nor
much
social
life.Howard's
idea
was
to
combine
the
best
of
town
and
country
in
a
new
kind
of
settlement,the
garden
city.Howard's
idea
was
that
a
group
of
people
should
set
up
a
company,borrowing
money
to
establish
a
garden
city
in
the
depressed
countryside;
far
enough
from
existing
cities
to
make
sure
that
the
land
was
bought
at
the
bottom
price.
Garden
cities
would
provide
a
central
public
open
space,radial
avenues
and
connecting
industries.They
would
be
surrounded
by
a
much
larger
area
of
green
belt,also
owned
by
the
company,
containing
not
merely
farms
but
also
some
industrial
institutions.As
more
and
more
people
moved
in,the
garden
city
would
reach
its
planned
limit—Howard
suggested
32,000
people;
then,another
would
be
started
a
short
distance
away.Thus,over
time,there
would
develop
a
vast
planned
house
collection,extending
almost
without
limit;
within
it,each
garden
city
would
offer
a
wide
range
of
jobs
and
services,but
each
would
also
be
connected
to
the
others
by
a
rapid
transportation
system,thus
giving
all
the
economic
and
social
opportunities
of
a
big
city.

B.Eight.
C.Five.
D.Seven.
【解析】 文中提到的音乐类型有pop

7.Country

【解析】 第五段一开头就说:There
are
other
kinds

that
are
important
to
Americans.接下来则提到了folk
music和country
music,由此可知A项错误;乡村音乐起源于牛仔但不局限于牛仔才能唱,也没有说它不能在音乐厅唱。只有B项的表述是正确的,因为folk
music和country
music是两种不同的音乐风格。
【答案】 B
8.Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
passage
A.All
people
in
America
like
popular
music.
B.Pop
singers

D.Liang
Shanbo

【解析】 A、B和D项都与原文不符。A项太绝对了,不可能会有某种音乐形式受到所有人的喜欢;Some
of
the
money
from
these
tapes
comes
to
the
singer.表明并不是唱片的所有收入都进了歌唱者的口袋;文中提及的《梁山伯与祝英台》是芭蕾舞剧。第五段末尾则提到了现在任何有关乡村生活的歌都称为country
music,与开始的时候只有牛仔唱的歌才是乡村音乐的情况不一样了。

Although
his
1 year old
smartphone
still
works
perfectly,Li
Jijia
already
feels
the
need
to
replace
it.
“There
are
many
better
ones
available
now:
It's
time
to
upgrade(更新)
my
phone.”
Li's
impatience
is
shared
by
many.Shortly
after
the
season
when
new
products
are
released,many
consumers
feel
the
urge
to
upgrade
their
electronic
equipment,even
though
the
ones
they
have
still
work
just
fine.
As
consumers'
minds
are
occupied
by
Apple's
newly
released
products
and
debate
whether
the
Google
tablet
is
better
than
the
new
Amazon
Kindle,it
might
be
time
to
take
a
step
back
and
ask,“Do
we
really
need
the
latest
upgrades?”
According
to
Donald
Norman,an
American
author,“planned
obsolescence
(淘汰)”
is
the
trick
behind
the
upgrading
culture
of
today's
consumer
electronics
industry.
Electronics
producers
strategically
release
new
upgrades
periodically,
both
for
hardware
and
software,so
that
customers
on
every
level
feel
the
need
to
buy
the
newest
version.
“This
is
an
old time
trick—they'
re
not
inventing
anything
new,”
Norman
said.“This
is
a
wasteful
system
through
which
companies—many
of
them
producing
personal
electronics—release
poor-quality
products
simply
because
they
know
that,in
six
months
or
a
year,they'll
put
out
a
new
one.”
But
the
new
psychology
of
consumers
is
part
of
this
system,
as
Norman
admitted,“We
now
want
something
new,
something
pretty,
the
next
shiny
thing.”
In
its
most
recent
years,Apple's
profit
margin
was
more
than
21
percent.
At
Hewlett Packard,the
world's
biggest
PC
maker,it
was
only
7
percent.
Apple's
annual
upgrades
of
its
products
create
sales
of
millions
of
units
as
owners
of
one
year's
MacBook
or
iPhone
line
up
to
buy
the
newest
version,even
when
the
changes
are
slight.
As
to
Li
Jijia,the
need
for
upgrading
his
smartphone
comes
mainly
from
friends
and
classmates.When
they
are
switching
to
the
latest
equipment,he
worries
about
feeling
left
out.
“Some
games
require
better
hardware
to
run,”said
Li.“If
you
don't
join
in,you
lose
part
of
the
connection
to
your
friends.”

Being
angry
doesn't
really
solve
much,but
what
people
do
when
they
feel
angry
is
important.The
goal
is
to
calm
down
and
try
to
solve
what
is
bothering
you.This
is
hard
for
some
kids
and
adults,too.Instead
of
calming
down,some
kids
might
keep
getting
more
and
more
upset
until
they
explode
like
a
volcano!
17
Their
anger
might
be
so
strong
that
they
lose
control
of
their
temper.They
may
act
in
ways
unacceptable
and
hurtful.People
may
say
that
someone
has
trouble
controlling
their
temper.
18
Some
kids
might
get
so
angry
that
they
scream
at
their
parents,break
something,or
even
worse,hit
their
brothers
or
sisters.
19
However,it's
not
OK
for
a
kid
to
do
any
of
those
things.Kids
don't
want
to
act
in
this
way,but
sometimes
angry
feelings
can
be
hard
to
manage.So
what
to
do
Well,the
good
news
is
that
kids
don't
just
have
to
keep
making
the
same
mistakes
over
and
over
again.

a
puppy
inside
you
that
needs
some
training.The
puppy
is
not
bad—it
will
probably
turn
out
a
great
dog.It
just
needs
to
learn
some
rules
because,right
now,that
puppy
is
causing
some
problems
to
you.
A.You
can
train
your
temper.
B.You
don't
want
to
cause
trouble.
C.Kids
should
be
allowed
to
express
their
feelings,even
angry
ones.
D.Everybody
gets
angry
sometimes.
E.In

F.Instead

Searching

other
ways,like
talking
to
someone
you

lead
you
to
solving
your
problem
or
at
least
feeling
better.
Try
taking
these
four
steps
the
next
time
you
are
stressed:
(1)Get
support.When
you
need
help,reach
out
to
the
people
who
care
about
you.Talk
to
trusted
adult,such
as
parent
or
other
relatives.
17
They

problems,such
as

(2)Don't
take

adults
and
friends,it's
time
to
get

19
Even

(4)Be

stress
is
temporary(暂时的).Remember
stress
does
go
away,especially
when
you
figure
out
the
problem
and
start
working
on
solving
it.These
steps

they

if
you

stay
positive
as
you
make
your
way
through
a
tough
time,you'll
help
yourself
feel
better
even
faster.
20
A.Ask
for
a
helping
hand
to
get
you
through
the
tough
situation.
B.Notice
your
friends'
feelings
and
find
a
way
to
help
them.
C.Different
people
feel
stress
in
different
ways.
D.Ah,it

when
it

me:
I
was
going
to
have
to
prepare
a
traditional
Thanksgiving
25
myself!
That
night
at
Dubya's
Restaurant,which
was
our
favorite
place
to
26
,I
began
discussing
the
dilemma
(困境)with
Jeff.“It's
too
bad
that
this
place
won't
be
27
on
Thanksgiving,or
we
could
just
come
here,”I
said.
Dubya,the
owner
of
the
restaurant,happened
to
be
28
by
our
table
when
I
said
those
words.“You
mean
you
expect
me
to

for
you
on
Thanksgiving,too?”he
teased
(取笑)“
Well,I
guess
you'll
just
have
to
come
to
our

since
the
restaurant
will
be
closed
then.”
We'd
become
31
with
Dubya
and
his
wife,as
we
ate
at
Dubya's
twice
a
week;
however,I
didn't
think
we
were
close
enough
to
32
Thanksgiving
dinner
with
his
family.I
was
sure
he
was
33
.But
as
we
headed
toward
the
door,Dubya
handed
Jeff
a
note
with
directions
to
their
house
and
their
phone
number.“You're
34
?”
I
asked
“Of
course,”
he
said.
And,two
days
later,we
reached
Dubya's
house.Everyone
35
us.As
expected,the
food
was
marvelous
but
the
company
was
even
better.We
truly
felt
that
we
36
there.
Of
course,I
wrote
them
a
thank you
note
the
next
week,but
I
couldn't
really
37
into
words
what
that
Thanksgiving
dinner
38
had
meant
to
us.I've
never
forgotten
their
kindness
and
that
very
39
Thanksgiving.
So,here's
my
suggestion
to
you
this
year.If
you
know
someone
who
will
be
dining
alone
on
Thanksgiving,why
not
invite
that
person
over
to
40
your
family

Dear
Jim,
How

things
going
On
November
21st,2013,I
went
to
a
concert
held
in
the
Capital
Stadium.The
concert
was
given
by
Emil
Chau,a
singer
from
Taiwan.Chau
was
born
in
Hong
Kong
in
December,1960
and
showed
his
music
talent
at
an
early
age.His
first
album
came
out
in
1984.Since
then
he
has
made
many
albums
and
has
continued
giving
great
performances
on
stage
at
home
and
abroad.His
song“Friend”became
well known.
Throughout
the
concert,there
was
not
an
empty
seat
anywhere
in
the
Stadium,and
the
atmosphere
was
extremely
exciting.The
audience
sang
along
to
nearly
every
song.
I
was
greatly
impressed
by
Chau's
brilliant
music
and
singing.While
I
watched
and
listened
I
knew
that
I
was
seeing
the
performance

Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
The
garden
city
was
largely
the
invention
of
Ebenezer
Howard(1850-1928).After
immigrating
from
England
to
the
USA,and
an
unsuccessful
attempt
to
make
a
living
as
a
farmer,he
moved
to
Chicago,where
he
saw
the
reconstruction
of
the
city
after
the
disastrous
fire
of
1871.In
those
days,it
was
nicknamed“the
Garden
City”,almost
certainly
the
source
of
Howard's
name
for
his
later
building
plan
of
towns.Returning
to
London,Howard
developed
his
design
in
the
1880s
and
1890s,drawing
on
ideas
that
were
popular
at
the
time,but
creating
a
unique
combination
of
designs.
The
nineteenth century
poor
city
was
in
many
ways
a
terrible
place,dirty
and
crowded,but
it
offered
economic
and
social
opportunities.At
the
same
time,the
British
countryside
was
in
fact
equally
unattractive:
though
it
promised
fresh
air
and
nature,it
suffered
from
agricultural
depression(萧条)and
it
offered
neither
enough
work
and
wages,nor
much
social
life.Howard's
idea
was
to
combine
the
best
of
town
and
country
in
a
new
kind
of
settlement,the
garden
city.Howard's
idea
was
that
a
group
of
people
should
set
up
a
company,borrowing
money
to
establish
a
garden
city
in
the
depressed
countryside;
far
enough
from
existing
cities
to
make
sure
that
the
land
was
bought
at
the
bottom
price.
Garden
cities
would
provide
a
central
public
open
space,radial
avenues
and
connecting
industries.They
would
be
surrounded
by
a
much
larger
area
of
green
belt,also
owned
by
the
company,
containing
not
merely
farms
but
also
some
industrial
institutions.As
more
and
more
people
moved
in,the
garden
city
would
reach
its
planned
limit—Howard
suggested
32,000
people;
then,another
would
be
started
a
short
distance
away.Thus,over
time,there
would
develop
a
vast
planned
house
collection,extending
almost
without
limit;
within
it,each
garden
city
would
offer
a
wide
range
of
jobs
and
services,but
each
would
also
be
connected
to
the
others
by
a
rapid
transportation
system,thus
giving
all
the
economic
and
social
opportunities
of
a
big
city.

B.has
nothing

【解析】 第五段一开头就说:There
are
other
kinds
of
music
that
are
important
to
Americans.接下来则提到了folk
music和country
music,由此可知A项错误;乡村音乐起源于牛仔但不局限于牛仔才能唱,也没有说它不能在音乐厅唱。只有B项的表述是正确的,因为folk
music和country
music是两种不同的音乐风格。
【答案】 B
8.Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
passage
A.All
people
in
America
like
popular
music.
B.Pop
singers
can

all
the

country
music
is
a
little
different
from
its
beginning.
D.Liang
Shanbo
and
ZhuYingtai
is
a
kind

pop
music.
【解析】 A、B和D项都与原文不符。A项太绝对了,不可能会有某种音乐形式受到所有人的喜欢;Some
of
the
money
from
these
tapes
comes
to
the
singer.表明并不是唱片的所有收入都进了歌唱者的口袋;文中提及的《梁山伯与祝英台》是芭蕾舞剧。第五段末尾则提到了现在任何有关乡村生活的歌都称为country
music,与开始的时候只有牛仔唱的歌才是乡村音乐的情况不一样了。

Although
his
1 year old
smartphone
still
works
perfectly,Li
Jijia
already
feels
the
need
to
replace
it.
“There
are
many
better
ones
available
now:
It's
time
to
upgrade(更新)
my
phone.”
Li's
impatience
is
shared
by
many.Shortly
after
the
season
when
new
products
are
released,many
consumers
feel
the
urge
to
upgrade
their
electronic
equipment,even
though
the
ones
they
have
still
work
just
fine.
As
consumers'
minds
are
occupied
by
Apple's
newly
released
products
and
debate
whether
the
Google
tablet
is
better
than
the
new
Amazon
Kindle,it
might
be
time
to
take
a
step
back
and
ask,“Do
we
really
need
the
latest
upgrades?”
According
to
Donald
Norman,an
American
author,“planned
obsolescence
(淘汰)”
is
the
trick
behind
the
upgrading
culture
of
today's
consumer
electronics
industry.
Electronics
producers
strategically
release
new
upgrades
periodically,
both
for
hardware
and
software,so
that
customers
on
every
level
feel
the
need
to
buy
the
newest
version.
“This
is
an
old time
trick—they'
re
not
inventing
anything
new,”
Norman
said.“This
is
a
wasteful
system
through
which
companies—many
of
them
producing
personal
electronics—release
poor-quality
products
simply
because
they
know
that,in
six
months
or
a
year,they'll
put
out
a
new
one.”
But
the
new
psychology
of
consumers
is
part
of
this
system,
as
Norman
admitted,“We
now
want
something
new,
something
pretty,
the
next
shiny
thing.”
In
its
most
recent
years,Apple's
profit
margin
was
more
than
21
percent.
At
Hewlett Packard,the
world's
biggest
PC
maker,it
was
only
7
percent.
Apple's
annual
upgrades
of
its
products
create
sales
of
millions
of
units
as
owners
of
one
year's
MacBook
or
iPhone
line
up
to
buy
the
newest
version,even
when
the
changes
are
slight.
As
to
Li
Jijia,the
need
for
upgrading
his
smartphone
comes
mainly
from
friends
and
classmates.When
they
are
switching
to
the
latest
equipment,he
worries
about
feeling
left
out.
“Some
games
require
better
hardware
to
run,”said
Li.“If
you
don't
join
in,you
lose
part
of
the
connection
to
your
friends.”

Being
angry

much,but
what

what

is
hard
for
some
kids
and

of

until
they

Their

Some

they

other
ways,like
talking
to
someone
you

lead
you
to
solving
your
problem
or
at
least
feeling
better.
Try
taking
these
four
steps
the
next
time
you
are
stressed:
(1)Get
support.When
you
need
help,reach
out
to
the
people
who
care
about
you.Talk
to
trusted
adult,such
as
parent
or
other
relatives.
17
They
might

similar
problems,such
as

(2)Don't
take
it

(3)Try
to

the
problem.After
you're

support
from
adults
and
friends,it's
time
to
get

19
Even

(4)Be

stress
is
temporary(暂时的).Remember
stress
does
go
away,especially
when
you
figure
out
the
problem
and
start
working
on
solving
it.These
steps

if
you

stay
positive
as
you
make
your
way
through
a
tough
time,you'll
help
yourself
feel
better
even
faster.
20
A.Ask
for
a
helping
hand
to
get
you
through
the
tough
situation.
B.Notice
your
friends'
feelings
and
find
a
way
to
help
them.
C.Different
people
feel
stress
in
different
ways.
D.Ah,it
feels
so

E.You

F.And

G.Then,find

I
was
going
to
have
to
prepare
a
traditional

25
myself!
That
night
at
Dubya's
Restaurant,which
was
our

,I
began
discussing
the
dilemma
(困境)with
Jeff.“It's
too
bad
that
this
place
won't
be
27
on
Thanksgiving,or
we
could
just
come
here,”I
said.
Dubya,the
owner
of
the
restaurant,happened
to
be

by
our
table
when
I
said
those
words.“You
mean

teased

Well,I
guess
you'll

have
to
come

the
restaurant

closed
then.”
We'd
become
31
with
Dubya
and
his
wife,as
we
ate
at
Dubya's
twice
a
week;
however,I
didn't
think
we
were
close
enough
to
32
Thanksgiving
dinner
with
his
family.I
was
sure
he
was
33
.But
as
we
headed
toward
the
door,Dubya
handed
Jeff
a
note
with
directions
to
their
house
and
their
phone
number.“You're
34
?”
I
asked
“Of
course,”
he
said.
And,two
days
later,we
reached
Dubya's
house.Everyone
35
us.As
expected,the
food
was
marvelous
but
the
company
was
even
better.We
truly
felt
that
we
36
there.
Of
course,I
wrote
them
a
thank you
note
the
next
week,but
I
couldn't
really
37
into
words
what
that
Thanksgiving
dinner
38
had
meant
to
us.I've
never
forgotten
their
kindness
and
that
very
39
Thanksgiving.
So,here's
my
suggestion
to
you
this
year.If
you
know
someone
who
will
be
dining
alone
on
Thanksgiving,why
not
invite
that
person
over
to

your
family
