Activity 1: Act and Guess
1. Tell the children that you are going to play an "Act and Guess" game with them.
2. Tell them that you are not a teacher now and you have a new job. Tell them to guess what job you have by watching your action.
3. Mime the action as a nurse.
4. The children may guess their guess in Chinese, so confirm the children's guess by saying "I am a nurse."
5. Put up the flash card of a nurse on the blackboard. Get them to say "nurse" after you, and then say this word one by one.
6. Ask a few children if they want to be a nurse. You may ask in both English and Chinese for the first two rounds, and then stick to English. You can also say "And you, Ann " as this is more natural. Do show interest in what the children say. This is real exchange of information rather than language practice.
7. Do the same with the other three occupations. Use "Hands up!" and "Yes, Sir!" when play policeman. You may need to get a child to cooperate with you to play the bad egg.
Activity 2: Chinese whisper
1. Tell the children they are going to play a competitive game called Chinese whisper. Show how to play the game if this is the first time you are playing it with them.
2. Tell the children at the end of each row an occupation and get him/her to whisper it to the child sitting in front of him/her. Play the game four rounds so that each row practice saying all the occupations.
Activity 3: Let's pretend
1. Get the children to look at the pictures on page29. Discuss what the children in the pictures are doing and what they are saying.
2. The children work in groups of three and think of their own ways to mime the four occupations. They rehearse in their group. The teacher goes around to see if they need help. Give them help and encourage them to say it.
3. Get the group to the front to do their actions and get the rest of the class to guess which occupation they are acting.
Activity 4: Listen and stick
1. Take out the activity book and turn to page 18.
2. Talk with the children about the pictures. Let them to say out the occupations they see.
3. Play the recorder and get the children to tick the right answer.
Activity 5: Make a puppet
1. Show the puppets you made and tell the children that they are going to make their puppets.
2. Follow the Steps 2 and 3 on page 31 and instruct the children to make their own puppet.
3. Name their puppets.
4. Use your own puppet to make a puppet show like the one in Step 4 on page 31.
5. Ask the children to make puppet conversations. Tell them that the longer they talk, the more points they will get.
6. Get some children to act their puppet conversations.
Homework:
Tell the children to make one more puppet at home and do puppets show for their parents.
