UNIT FOUR
Lesson Two
Teaching content: Enjoy English/Let's chant
Objectives:
Hopefully the children will be able to
1. Enjoy the story and join the teacher to tell the story on page 20 in Activity Book.
2. Match the four occupation words with the corresponding pictures.
3. Say the chant to the rhythm after the teacher.
Language focus:
Vocabulary: policeman nurse teacher banana play
Come on! School is over. Let's have fun.
New: homework has fun
Structures:
Known: I'm a policeman/doctor/teacher/nurse.
New: Let's play policeman/doctor/teacher/nurse.
Skills: Listening speaking miming initial reading
Material Needed:
Flash cards of the four occupations, a banana, a picture of a monkey/zoo
Procedures:
Activity 1: Show me that you are a policeman/teacher/nurse/doctor
1. Show the children the pictures of the four occupations and get them to say the occupations in chorus.
2. Ask some individuals in a very friendly way to show you that he/she is a policeman/teacher/nurse/doctor. Give them a purpose by saying that you want to know if they are good at actors and actresses.
Activity 2: Enjoy your English 21世纪教育网 21世纪教育网
1. Tell the children that you are going to tell them a story.
2. Hide a banana under a piece of cloth, ask the children to guess what it is. You may give them some clues.
3. Tell them that the story that you are going to tell is about banana.
4. Get them to predict what happen in the story by discussing the pictures of the story.
5. Tell the children the three words monkey zoo feed in the story, and show the corresponding pictures. Briefly practice these words with the children.
6. Play the recording of the story.
7. Ask them what happen in each picture. Give them feedback.
8. Go through the pictures again, encourage the children to repeat what the boy and the baby say in each picture.
9. Tell the story yourself, inviting the children to join in. Do this more than one time.
Activity 3: Make a match
1. Get the students to look at the speech bubbles in the story, ask them if there's any word that they know. If you have been using the pictures of the occupations with the words shown, some of them may be able to identify words like policeman doctor. Practice the children who recognize any words. Write the occupation words on the blackboard and put the corresponding pictures above it.
2. Stick all the four pictures on the blackboard and number them.
Activity 4: "Am I right "
1. Close your eyes, take any one of the four occupation word cards, and put it above your head so all class can see. Guess what the word is by saying "Teacher. Am I right " Get the children to tell you if you are right. If you are not, make another guess.
2. The children play the same game in groups of four.
Activity 5: Let's Draw
1. Show a drawing of you in a doctor's uniform. Write under it "I want to be a doctor." Explain what the caption means. Tell the children to choose an occupation and draw themselves.
2. The children do the drawing. Tell the children they should do it quickly.
3. Get individual children to show and talk about their drawing.
4. Assign a corner in the classroom and tell the children that they can display their drawing there after class.
Activity 6: Let's Chant
1. Ask the children what the children usually say to them when class is over. Then teach, "School is over".
1. Show a picture of a child doing homework, including the word "homework". Ask a few students "Do you do your homework at home " first in both English and Chinese, then in English only. Then get the whole class to repeat the word "homework".
2. Play the recorded chant for the first time. Clap your hands to beat the rhythm.
3. Play the chant again; invite the children to beat its rhyme by saying "Come on, guys, let's clap" and clap yourself as well.
4. Tell the children that they are saying the chant in a big cave and that the chant echoes in the cave. Play the chant and pause at the end of each line three times.
5. Play the chant for the third time and signal the children to join in the chanting and beat.
Homework:
1. Get the children to remember what they did in this lesson and how they learn and ask them why.
2. Ask them to tell the story to their parents and listen to the recording of the story and the chant.
