Procedures
Activity 1: Let's echo
1. The children listen to the recorded chant and chant along.
2. Say the chant in four groups, one line each group.
3. Tell the children they are going to play echoing. Get a fast learner to say the chant, you echo him/her after each line.
4. Appoint one group to say the lines and another group to echo the first group. The groups take turns to do it until they have enough practice.
5. Tell the children to practice in pairs.
Activity 2:Let's sing
1. Show a picture of Andy playing video games. Ask children "Who is this " "What is Andy doing " and put up the picture and the phrase "play video games" on the blackboard. Get the children to repeat it quickly. Go to the children and ask them "Do you video games after school "
2. Do the same with Koto eating ice-cream and Andy playing with the dog. The questions you ask them may be "What is this " "Do you play with your dog everyday " The children may have more to say about playing video games, ice-cream and dogs. Do not stop them, and allow them to use Chinese, but encourage them to use English.
3. Children work in groups to think of actions that they can do to show that they are playing video games, eating ice-cream and playing with a dog. Then get some children to mime those activities.
4. Add one more picture on the blackboard of Andy watching TV and jumble the pictures. Play the song for the first time. Tell the children you want them to choose the three pictures related to the song and arrange them in accordance with the song.
5. Play the song again with action; get the children to do the action along with you.
6. Divide the class into an Andy Group, a Koto Group and an Amy Group. You can also call them the Video Game Group, the Ice-cream Group and the Dog Group. Get the groups to sing their part in the song.
Activity 3: Number the pictures
1. Show the students pictures of the activities on page 30 with the written phrase. Put these pictures on the blackboard and number them. Repeat these phrases many times while you do so to expose the children to them.
2. Say an activity, for example, "ride a scooter", ask the children to tell you its number. Do the same with the other activities, speed up gradually to create excitement.
Activity 4: Listen and Do
1. Say the activities and do the corresponding actions. Get the children to listen to you and watch you. You can repeat this step.
2. Say and do the actions and invite the children to move along with you.
3. Say the action alone, and get the children to do the actions.
Activity 5: You do it, I guess it!
1. Put all the activity pictures face down on the blackboard. Get a child to choose a picture, but hide it from the others.
2. Ask the child to mime the activity in the picture. Get the other children to guess what the activity is. Check by turning the picture over. The first one who makes the right guess gets points.
3. Get different children to do the miming.
Activity 6: Number them
1. Tell the children that they are going to play a matching game and that if they have a good memory they have a chance to win.
2. Put all the pictures face down on the blackboard. Put the corresponding written phrases face down in a pile on your desk. First, you take the phrase card on the top of the pile and show it to the class, get them to the class, get them to read it. Then you take a picture card from the board and show it to the class. Ask them if they two cards match. If they do, you have the two cards; if they don't, put the picture card back where it was face down, and put the written phrase face down at the bottom of the pile on your desk.
3. Get individual children to the front to play the game.
4. The children play the game in pairs with their own cards.
Homework:
1. Remember what you did this lesson and how you felt.
2. Sing the song to your parents and listen to the chant and the song at home.
