Ⅲ.阅读理解。
(A)
Height is just one of the features your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then most probably you will be tall, too. But if you have questions about how tall you're going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find them out.21世纪教育网版权所有
But genes don't decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential (潜力). Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected height.2-1-c-n-j-y
It's natural that you're wondering how fast you should grow. There's no perfect or right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about 6 cm a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty.
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. 2 cm here and 3 cm there make a little difference to the height you're at now. How have you been growing up to this height? What other changes may your body be going through?21*cnjy*com
Don't be amazed if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt (高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later--between 7 and 13 for girls and 9 and15 for boys.
You'll usually begin to notice that you're growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

A serious earthquake can be a terrible experience, and it is easy to forget safety measures (措施) in disorder (混乱). Fortunately, most earthquake safety measures are common sense, but if you forget everything else, remember the following instructions:drop, cover, and hold on. Also, most of earthquake deaths happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does!
If you stay indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported areas and windows. Try to get under a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams(梁). Stay under a table or desk only if it is very strong. Do not rush to lifts, because it is far safer to stay where you are. Cover your head with your arms around it and curl(蜷缩) into a ball, and wait for the shaking to stop.
If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, move to an area Which is as open as possible. Don't move to buildings, electric poles and other objects which may fall during an earthquake and injure you. Protect your head and stay low to the ground till the shaking ends and it is safe to move.
After an earthquake, many buildings are less strong, although they appear safe. If you stay indoors, move people from the building quickly and help disabled or injured people. Once outdoors, move well away from the building so that if it falls down, you will not be injured. Wait till public safety officials announce that it is safe to stay indoors. By planning ahead and keeping calm during an earthquake, you can greatly increase your chances of survival (生存) without injury.【版权所有:21教育】

As students, we can give away our pocket money, school things, some of our clothes or toys. We can also donate some books to them in order to open up their eyes to the outside world. We may raise money for charity by collecting used bottles, waste paper and so on, or by doing part-time jobs, such as handing out advertisements, selling newspapers and so on. Making pen pals with them will be a better way to help them deal with problems in their study.21cnjy.com
