There were three big fish in the lake. One of them, Demo, was wise; another one, Jimmy, was half-wise; Martin, the third one, was stupid.
Some fishermen came to the bank of the lake with their nets. The three fish saw them.
Demo decided at once to leave, to make the long and difficult trip to the ocean. He thought, “I won’t discuss with these two about this. They love this place so much that they call it home and will stay on. How silly they are! They still haven’t realized we are in great danger now. Their ignorance will cost them their lives.”
Seeing the wise fish had left, Jimmy thought, “My guide has gone and now I’ve lost my chance to escape.” He felt sorry for it and then thought, “What can I do to save myself from these men and their nets? Perhaps I should pretend(假装) to be already dead, giving myself totally to the water.” So he did that. He went up and down with the water, helpless, within arm’s reach of the fishermen.
“Look at this! The best and biggest is dead.” One of the men lifted him by the tail, and threw him up on the ground. He rolled (滚动) over and over and moved secretly toward the water, and then, back in.
The third fish was aimlessly jumping about, trying to escape with his speed and cleverest. The net, of course, finally closed around him, and as he lay in the hot frying-pan bed. What would the world be like if cars could drive themselves? Imagine seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them are worried about the road ahead.

These cars are now still in the testing stages. But, if the tests are successful, these electric self-driven cars could be put into use very soon.
The cars already have many features (特点) allowing them to take the place of drives during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park themselves, or slow down when they notice objects close by. They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions.
Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless (无线电的) signals, cameras and GPS, we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driven car might be possible.
The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The self-driven car may be able to prevent these. However, some people don’t like the idea. Somehow I got into the semifinals. In the semifinals, I got injured. I still didn’t give up and got into finals. After all, getting the gold medal was my dream.
In the final petition, there were no supporters on my side, as I was a new face. Instead, the crowd was cheering for my opponent. I could hear only my opponent’s name.

On seeing him, the father cried out, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of duty?”

Have you ever had trouble sleeping in a new place?
Lots of people do. And now researchers from Brown University in Rhode Island think they knew why. They found that one-half of the brain “remains more awake” than the other half when people are trying to sleep in a new place.
The sleep findings were reported in Current Biology by Brown University. In their report, the researchers said many people report they have a harder time sleeping the first night at a hotel or other places outside their home. They call it “first-night influence”. “In Japan they say, ‘If you change your bed, you don’t sleep,’” said Yuka Sasaki, one of the report’s writers. “You don’t sleep very well in a new place. We all know about it.”
The researchers measured brain waves (测量脑波) for 35 volunteers over two nights in a laboratory. The two nights were a week apart (间隔). They found during the first night the left half of the brain was more active than the right half. This was during the first deep-sleep period, the researchers said.
Sasaki said a lot of questions remain.
Researchers did not keep measuring brain waves all night long. So, they don’t know it the left half keeps “watch” all night, or whether it “works in shifts (轮换) with the right half later in the night”. They also do not know why the brain activity, at least during the first period of deep sleep, is always on the left half.
For some, this research may be calming. It is good to know that our brain is “looking out for us” in a new place. But it may not help with sleep. That brain activity, at least according to this new research, makes it harder to get the sleep people need to wake up well rested in the morning.

I know my brother better than anyone else in the world. Since the moment of his birth, I’ve been part of his life. I had spent seven happy years in the world with the attention of those around me. But when Rohan was born, life changed. All of a sudden, I had to share my toys and there were no more bedtime stories or my own choice of food.
Finally, I hated this small boy. The poor baby had no idea what had made me so unhappy. Maybe he found me strange, the only person in this house who did not like him. Whatever the reason was, he loved following me around. However, I seldom talked to him and always asked him to leave me alone.
Then all that changed. I hardly remember everything of that day six years ago, but I do remember that I was feeling very angry. Then I found myself in my brother’s room. I couldn’t help reaching my hand through the bars(栏杆)of his bed. At once, he reached his small hand and softly touched mine. And that was all I needed. Through all the unhappiness of the day, that one moment changed everything. How could I hate someone who made me feel so important? For the first time, I saw my brother through the eyes of a sister. Suddenly I realized love from my family was always with me.
To this day, I can’t imagine life without my brother. It is unbelievable(难以置信的)how much I have learned about life from a seven-year-old boy. Above all, Rohan has taught me that one should not care only for himself.
