Teaching of new lesson:
Step1. Ask students to do“Think about it”
How often do you make phone calls to your friend
Is it hard to understand your friends when they speak English If so, what can you ask them to do
Step2. Play the audiotape, ask the students to read the text after the tape.
Step3. Explain the following:
1.打电话用语：
在用英语打电话时，如果要问对方“你是……吗？”一般用：
Is that/this…
Is that/this…speaking
其中that 表示打电话的另一方。不能说Are you … 回答时也要说：
Yes, this is…speaking.
Yes, …is speaking.是的，我是……（在讲话）。
No, it isn’t. He/she isn’t here at the moment. 不，不是。他/她此刻不在。
要某人接电话一般用：
Can I speak to …, please
May I speak to …, please
Could I speak to …, please 请问我可以和…讲话吗？
回答是：Certainly./Sure./Of course.当然可以。
Hold on, please./A moment ,please./wait a minute, please.请稍等。
I’m afraid he isn’t here right now.恐怕他这会儿不在。
2.I would love to speak English with your friends.
Would love to do sth.=would like to do sth=want to do sth. 想要做… would经常可缩写成’d.
He encourages her. 他鼓励她。
Encourage是及物动词，意为“鼓励”。常用于Encourage sb to do sth. 鼓励某人做某事。例：My teacher encourages me to study English hard.
老师鼓励我努力学英语。
I’m sorry, I can’t follow you. 抱歉，我听不明白你说的话。
Follow 在该句中意为“明白，听懂”，该句在含义上相当与I’m sorry, I can’t understand you.
