Analyzing teaching material:Status and function
This unit focuses on environmental issues, which concern young people. Lesson 44 is the second lesson of Unit 8. It is mainly about a list of activities and advice on how to reduce the pollution and protect the environment in an environment club. Since it is a type of reading, it’s helpful to improve the Ss’ reading ability and communicative ability.
Analyzing students
Ss have mastered some certain vocabulary and grammar. They are eagled to know about the new subjects and the new knowledge. They will take a great interest in English now. But they still have some problems in learning English. So the teacher needs to help them form the good learning habits.www-2-1-cnjy-com
Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge objects
Master the important phrases: encourage…to…, neither …nor…, turn off, shut down
2.Ability objects
a. Improve the ability of getting main idea of the passage by reading.
b. Improve the ability of retelling the story.
c. Train the ability of studying in groups.
3.Moral objects
Learn to save resources and reduce pollution. It’s our duty to protect our environment!

Step 3 Reading
1、Pre-reading

2、While-reading
Let the Ss read the text quickly and find out the answers to the questions. The teacher draws a mind map which is like a big tree on the blackboard.
Read the text again to get more information about activities and advice on how to reduce the pollution and protect the environment.

Step 5 Presenting
Present the new inventions made out of waste materials.
The purpose is to ask everyone to take part in the activities and protect the environment from themselves. During the activities, Ss need to learn to cooperate with their teammates. The teacher needs to go round the classroom to give the weak team a certain help.
Step 6 Promoting emotion
Play a short video about environment protection painted with sand.
The purpose is to improve the awareness of protecting the environment.
