母亲节 (MOTHER'S DAY) 起源于美国，由安娜·贾维斯发起。首先是为了追思自己母亲组织的活动，后来她鼓励他人也以类似方式来表达对自己母亲的感激之情。贾维斯还组织了一个母亲节委员会，开始大规模宣传，呼吁将母亲节定为法定节日。她的呼吁获得热烈响应。1913年5月10日，美国通过这一提案，决定每年5月的第二个星期日为母亲节。这一举措引起世界各国纷纷仿效，至1948年贾维斯去世时，已有43个国家设立了母亲节。美国政府还规定，母亲节这天，家家户户都要悬挂国旗，以表示对母亲的尊敬。
母亲之花--carnation 康乃馨
