Teaching procedure
Step 1 Greeting
T: Good morning boys and girls.
S: Good morning Miss Lin.
Step 2 Revision
Review numbers 1-5 by counting around the class.
Step 3 Activity
1 Listen and point.
T: Boys and girls, please look at your book, point to the children and ask who they are..
Ss: This is Daming. This is Lingling…
T: Do you know Ms Smart She is a teacher.
Ss: This is Ms Smart.
T: Look, what’s this
Ss: This is a bird.
2. Play the cassette again.
This time pause for the class to repeat each utterance. Encourage the class to enjoy this activity. They can also imitate the sound of the bird and laugh at the end. When the children are relaxed and having fun, they will be more receptive to language learning. Repeat this stage a couple of times to promote fluency.
Step 4 Let’s act.
Say good morning. Shake hands with some children to indicate that it is a formal greeting. Then point to yourself and say My name is …
Divide the class into sections. Give each section a role in the conversation. Don’t forget to allocates the role of the bird.
The whole class acts the dialogue, with each group saying the corresponding text.
The children now act out the dialogue in small groups or pairs.
