第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出一个最佳选项。
A
My father taught me a lot of lessons. But there is one lesson, for which I am extremely grateful, that stands apart from the others. This lesson wasn’t taught on purpose. It was accidental. It wasn’t a chat or shining example of what to do. It was a mistake ---- a big mistake. There are things, however, that are seldom learned unless a mistake is made.
He was my childhood hero, so I took it pretty hard when he and my mom were divorced. But that was nothing compared to what was coming.
When I was 15 he told me something that was totally shocking. He told me that he was addicted to taking cocaine.
I remember standing there in complete doubt thinking to myself: “ My dad is smoking cocaine! Now you’re not my father; you’re a cheater! Heroes don’t lose to the bad guys.”
Pain and puzzlement filled the air. I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t. Too much anger. Too much resentment(愤恨).
For a few years he battled his addiction and I , along with my two little brothers and three little sisters, battled my emotions. Finally, we all won.
The day my dad came up to me and said, “Son, I did it, I beat it, I’m clean!” I didn’t exactly greet him with open arms. Still too much anger. Too much resentment.
But after a while, admiration replaced anger, respect replaced resentment, and a priceless lesson replaced the pain. I have spoken and written about this lesson on many occasions.
No matter what happens or what mistakes you make --- a bad grade, a bad interview, a bad relationship, or just simple old bad decisions, if my father came back from that, then you know you can come back from whatever.
36. In his childhood, what was the author’s attitude towards his father
A. He had much respect for his father.

A. He was glad at the fact.

D. He congratulated his father with a hug.
39. What lesson did the author learn from his father
A. A mistake is the source of a lesson.
B. You can overcome any problems if you don’t give up.
C. Everyone should be polite to his parents.
D. Everyone can make a mistake in life.

It has long been held that the early bird catches the worm. But it is the night owl that really goes the distance. Research shows that night owls can work longer than early birds, and they tend to be clever and richer. It has found that late risers tire less quickly than those who make a point of getting up at the crack of dawn.
In the study, scientists pitted (使竞争) morning larks (云雀) against night owls in a task designed to measure their reaction and attention time. The larks got up and went to bed four hours earlier than the owls. Both did similarly well at the task shortly after getting up. However, after 10 hours of being awake, it was the night owls that shone, being both quicker and more alert at the task. The larks felt sleepier, and the parts of their brains linked to attention were less active.
In addition, some other studies have debunked the popular saying, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” Night owls have been shown to have quicker minds and better memories. Therefore they also earn more!
Famous night owls include Charles Darwin, Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill. It is said Churchill regularly went to bed at 4 am and rose late. Due to his sleeping patterns, he often hosted War Cabinet meetings in his bath.
So why are some people night owls Well, getting up late is affected by a person’s DNA, with the body clock regulated by a series of genes which determine whether he is a lark or an owl.
40. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. Night Owls vs. Early Birds
B. Night Owls Tire Less Quickly
C. The Early Bird Catches the Worm
D. DNA vs. Laziness
41. Which of the following can be used to describe night owls
A. Less active B. More shiny C. More quick-minded D. Sleepier
42. The underlined word “debunked” in Paragraph 3 probably means “_____”.
A. denied B. proved C. agreed D. concluded
43. What do we know about Winston Churchill
A. He failed to change his sleeping patterns.
B. He was an early bird.
C. He took a bath before hosting meeting.
D. He went to bed late.

High school students have always spread gossip (传言) in the halls, on the walls and on the phone. Now, it’s on the Internet, too. On various message boards, kids write about whom they hate, whom they think have fallen in love with each other and record other often hurtful things that may or may not be true.
Sixteen-year-old Jessica remembers once when some kids at her school wrote cruel things about her on the Web. “They were just making fun of me,” she says. They said she’s really ugly, she’s this, she’s that, blah-blah-blah.
Jessica’s 11-year-old sister, Emma, admits she’s used the Web to write bad things about another girl, though she regrets it now. “After a while, you may feel like, how could I have been so mean or, why did I do that ” she says.
Except say gossip on the Internet can be more harmful than the old-fashioned kind. It lasts longer and is taken more seriously. And, unlike ugly words on the bathroom wall, there’s no way to get rid of it.
If your kids are victims of online gossip, manday suggests putting the gossip into perspective (正确看待). “Point put to them how what’s being said on the screen differs from what everyone knows about you as a person,” manday says.
You can also try what worked for Emma: Keep your kids off the offensive website! “When she was using it all the time, her name was there all the time. People were writing things about her,” explains Patti Thrift, Emma’s mother. “ Since she has no longer had access to (接触) that, she’s no longer a topic of conversation.”
Experts say that any time your child is on the Internet, you should know what he or she is doing there. Online gossip is just another reason why.
44. From the examples of Jessica and her sister, we can learn that______.
A. ugly girls easily become victims of online gossip
B. ugly girls like to spread gossip online
C. online gossip is mainly some jokes on others
D. gossip-makers can regret what they do
45. According to the passage, why is online gossip more hurtful
A. It is written words.
B. It can not be removed.
C. It is easier to believe.
D. It is much uglier.
46. If you are a victim of online gossip, you’d better_____.
A. ask your parents to stop it
B. try to stay away from there
C. make it known to the police
D. speak ill of the gossip-maker
47. The passage is mainly written for ______.
A. experts B. teachers C. parents D. students
D
It was only on my third visit to Canberra, Australia that I managed to step into a unique corner of the city, the Cockington Green Garden. When if entered this little world of miniatures(微缩模型), I experienced what Gulliver must have felt in lilliput(小人国)。
The miniature buildings are built exactly to scale (按比例)。 The trees and gardens are all real but small. Even the grass is real. One can imagine how much hard work goes into keeping such a place, just to keep everything small!
Some scenes are entertaining. I laughed as I spotted someone “falling ” into a waterway, and I felt it was so funny as my attention was brought to the split(口子) in a rider’s pants as he struggles to balance himself on a horse. As one moves on, one will come across a soccer field--- with a game in action! There is even a variety of scale miniature trains … and they have a railway track to travel on too! I walked into the Rose Walk and had a cool time enjoying the variety of roses that lined the covered passage. I was so impressed by many of the two-colored roses that I forgot to count how may different ones there were.
It led me to the Rose Room where one can see displays of a different kind--- miniature dolls and doll houses. There is a private collection of dolls in traditional dress from around the world.
After visiting miniature villages while on holiday in the UK, the founders, Doug and Brenda Sarah, were inspired to develop a similar display in Australia. Other family members were talked into participating in the project, and it took many years of painstaking work before Cockington Green was opened to the public in 1979. When celebrating its 25 years of operation in November 2005, the Garden won recognition with a National Tourism Award, besides receiving many local tourism industry awards. Today, this theme park is still family-owned, with four generations involved in its running.
48. From the passage, we can know the author______.
A. felt something in the garden very entertaining.
B. had his pants broken in the garden
C. bought some roses in the Rose Room
D. visited the garden three times
49. Which of the following is TRUE about the Cockington Green Garden
A. It has won many international awards.
B. It is possessed by a big family.
C. It has a history of 25 years.
D. The founder wanted to build it in UK at first.
50. The author saw all the following EXCEPT______.
A. four generations running there
B. the Rose Room
C. a soccer game in action
D. a collection of dolls
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Do you have trouble falling asleep, or toss(翻来覆去)and turn in the middle of the night 51Unless you’re suffering from a serious sleep problem, simply improving your daytime habits can set the stage for good sleep.
Regular exercise, besides many other wonderful health benefits, usually makes it easier to fall asleep and sleep better.52That’s the opposite of what you want near bedtime, because a cooler body temperature is good for sleep.
53This clock is sensitive to light and dark. Light tells your body clock to move to the active daytime phase. When you get up, open the shades or go outside to get some sunlight. If that’s not possible, turn on the lights to make your environment bright .
Perhaps the English have the right idea in having teatime in the late afternoon when you naturally get sleepy. Some people can take a short afternoon nap and still sleep well at night.54If you must nap, do it in the early afternoon, and sleep no longer than about thirty minutes.
Alcohol also has an influence on sleep. While it may make you fall asleep faster, alcohol reduces your sleep quality, waking you up later in the night.55you might be surprised to know that caffeine can cause sleep problems up to ten to twelve hours after drinking it! If you rely on coffee ,tea or caffeinated soda to keep you going during the day, consider removing caffeine after lunch or drinking less.
You are not alone: millions of people struggle with falling and staying asleep
When listening to loud music, you will feel too excited to fall asleep.
However, if you are having trouble sleeping at night, try not to take a nap.
To avoid this effect, stay away from alcohol in the last few hours
Lacking sleep results in some diseases.
Exercising too late in the day actually stimulates the body, raising its temperature
We all have a body clock that helps regulate sleep.
