阅读理解
(共两节;满分30分)
第一节
阅读下列短文,
从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项
(共10小题;每小题2分,
满分20分)
A
An
earthquake
is
one
of
the
most
common
natural
disasters.
It
may
cause
great
damage.
So
it
is
wise
to
learn
some
simple
safety
tips
to
protect
yourself
or
your
family
members.
Fragile
items,
like
those
made
of
glass
should
usually
be
placed
on
a
lower
surface,
near
the
ground
instead
of
placing
them
on
cupboards
higher
up.
Never
place
them
near
your
bed,
sofas
and
other
furniture
where
you
would
be
sitting
or
lying
down.
When
there
is
a
strong
movement,
these
pieces
will
fall
on
the
floor
directly
and
not
on
you.
There
is
a
strong
chance
of
short
circuits
(短路)
and
fire
breakouts
during
an
earthquake.
Make
sure
you
turn
off
electrical
connections
and
gas
immediately
when
an
earthquake
happens.
During
an
earthquake,
lie
beneath
an
object
that
is
not
easily
damaged.
Do
not
go
near
objects
that
could
directly
fall
on
you.
Never
use
the
elevator
to
go
down.
Stay
inside
until
the
shaking
stops
and
it
is
safe
to
go
outside.
Research
has
shown
that
most
injuries
happen
when
people
inside
buildings
try
to
go
out.
Use
the
staircases
at
all
times.
If
you
are
outdoors,
do
not
take
shelter
under
a
tree,
streetlights,
electric
poles
or
tall
buildings.
If
you
are
driving,
stop
your
car
and
stay
in
a
safe
place.
Do
not
park
your
car
under
a
tree
or
any
tall
object.
If
trapped
in
debris(瓦砾堆),
cover
your
mouth
with
a
handkerchief
or
clothing.
Tap
on
a
pipe
or
wall
so
rescuers
can
find
you.
Use
a
whistle
(哨子)
if
one
is
available.
Never
shout
for
help.
Shouting
can
cause
you
to
breathe
in
dangerous
amounts
of
dust.
Do
not
light
a
match
because
you
may
burn
yourself.
Do
not
move
about
or
kick
up
dust.
1.
The
purpose
of
the
passage
is
to
tell
readers
_________.
A.
the
damage
caused
by
earthquakes
B.
the
rescue
work
after
earthquakes
C.
how
to
prevent
earthquakes
D.
how
to
protect
yourself
and
others
in
earthquakes
2.
During
the
earthquake,
people
are
advised
to
_________.
A.
turn
off
power
and
gas
immediately
B.
go
out
of
the
building
at
once
C.
take
shelter
under
a
tree
D.
drive
to
a
safe
place
3.
What
should
people
NOT
do
when
they
are
trapped
in
debris
A.
Cover
their
mouth
with
a
handkerchief.
B.
Tap
on
a
pipe
or
wall
for
help.
C.
Light
a
fire
for
help.
D.
Use
a
whistle
for
help.
B
Too
much
eating.
Too
many
unhealthy
foods.
Too
many
advertisements
for
food.
Too
little
activity.
Different
explanations
are
offered
for
America’s
weight
problem — a
problem
increasingly
shared
by
other
countries.
Almost
one-fifth
of
American
children
and
teenagers
are
overweight.
Schools
have
been
asked
to
increase
physical
education,
an
important
tool
for
public
health.
However,
a
recent
study
has
shown
an
increase
in
the
number
of
injuries
in
PE
classes.
Researchers
say
one
possibility
is
a
decrease
in
the
number
of
school
nurses
during
the
period
they
studied.
Schools
without
a
nurse
on
duty
may
be
more
likely
to
send
an
injured
child
to
a
hospital.
Another
possible
reason
for
more
injuries
is
a
change
in
the
traditional
idea
of
physical
education.
This
“New
P.E.”
expands
the
kinds
of
sports
that
are
taught.
But
activities
that
some
schools
offer
now,
like
rock
climbing
and
skateboarding,
can
also
expand
the
risks,
says
Cheryl
Richardson,
who
is
with
the
National
Association
for
Sport
and
Physical
Education.
Also,
she
says
not
all
states
require
P.E.
teachers
to
be
specially
trained.
Untrained
teachers
could
be
less
likely
to
recognize
unsafe
conditions.
Cheryl
Richardson
points
to
one
of
the
study’s
findings — that
injuries
are
often
the
result
of
contact
with
a
person
or
a
structure.
This
tells
her
that
the
teachers
were
not
giving
each
student
enough
space
to
move
around
safely.
Six
activities
produced
seventy
percent
of
all
injuries:
running,
basketball,
football,
volleyball,
soccer
and
gymnastics.
The
researchers
say
larger
class
sizes
are
another
possible
reason
for
the
increase
in
injuries.
Larger
classes
can
mean
less
supervision(监督).
The
National
Association
for
Sport
and
Physical
Education
says
twenty
to
thirty
students
in
a
P.E.
class
should
be
the
limit.
4.
What
are
the
P.E.
classes
in
American
schools
like
now
A.
They
have
become
more
dangerous
for
students
than
before.
B.
They
are
interesting
and
safe
enough
for
students.
C.
They
need
excellent
skills
rather
than
physical
strength.
D.
They
strictly
follow
the
traditional
idea
of
physical
education.
5.
We
can
learn
from
the
third
paragraph
that_______.
A.
there
are
school
nurses
in
every
American
school
B.
American
girls
love
working
as
nurses
in
schools
C.
American
nurses
have
been
well
paid
by
the
hospital
D.
American
schools
need
more
school
nurses
at
present
6.
What
does
the
passage
mainly
discuss
A.
What
leads
to
the
weight
problem
in
America.
B.
Why
students
should
have
more
PE
classes.
C.
Why
there
have
been
more
injuries
in
PE
classes.
D.
What
foods
are
considered
healthy
for
students.
C
If
you
are
looking
for
something
fun
and
educational
to
do
in
Maryland,
why

The
ticket
prices
vary
depending
on

Maryland
Science
Center
is
basically
a
museum,

than
just
glance
at
an
exhibit.
Activities
You

about
various
topics,
including
outer
space,
the
human
body,

a
lot.
In

there
is
also
an
area
for

Making
the
Most
of
the
Body’s
Clock
Want
to
know
when
the
best
time
is
to
do
your
homework
and
study
for
your
exams
Then
just
take
advantage
of
your
body’s
clock,
and
you
can
work
more
efficiently
(效率高地)
and
more
happily.
11
Morning
Research
shows
that
in
the
morning
your
body
can
take
fatty
foods
more
easily,
so
don’t
worry
too
much
about
having
a
big
breakfast.
12
So
if
you
need
to
go
to
the
doctor’s
for
an
injection(注射),
this
is
the
best
time
to
go!
Did
you
know
that
the
best
time
for
the
brain
to
work
well
is
between
10:00
am
and
noon
Therefore,
that’s
the
time
when
you
should
be
listening
to
your
teachers
the
most
attentively(专心地).
Lunch-time
Between
12:00
pm
and
2:00
pm
is
the
best
time
for
eating.
The
body
clock
tells
your
body
to
help
you
digest
your
food
at
this
time,
so
you
have
less
chance
of
suffering
from
stomachache.
Early
Afternoon
13
There
is
a
slowdown
in
the
speed
your
brain
works,
so
it’s
not
the
best
time
to
solve
difficult
maths
problems.
Late
Afternoon
After
three
o’clock,
the
body
clock
starts
to
tell
your
body
to
start
working
again.
14
So
why
not
try
to
start
and
finish
your
homework
during
this
time
period
Late
evening
Between
8
pm
and
10
pm
is
the
time
people
are
most
likely
to
feel
lonely.
15
Another
problem
students
have
at
night
time
is
difficulty
in
sleeping.
If
you
want
a
good
night’s
sleep,
just
take
a
warm
bath
and
don’t
do
any
exercise
before
you
sleep.
Avoid
staying
up
late.
Everyone’s
body
clock
is
slightly
different.
From
3:00
pm
to
5:00
pm
your
body
is
at
its
fittest.
A
good
sleep
helps
to
clear
your
brain
and
relax
your
mind.
Let’s
now
find
out
what
activities
are
best
for
us
at
different
times
of
the
day.
The
body
is
best
at
fighting
pain
between
the
hours
of
9:00am
and
10:00
a.m.
This
may
be
one
reason
why
students
like
to
phone
or
meet
their
friends
at
this
time.
The
body’s
temperature
usually
drops
at
this
time
and
all
the
body
systems
slow
down.
