“Her
grades
are
fine;
I’m
not
worried
about
that,
but
she
just
doesn’t
seem
to
love
learning
any
more.”
Alice’s
mum
said.
She’s
absolutely
right.
I’d
noticed
the
same
thing
about
her
daughter
over
the
previous
two
or
three
years
when
I’d
been
Alice’s
middle
school
English,
Latin,
and
writing
teacher,
and
I
have
an
answer,
right
there
on
the
tip
of
my
tongue,
for
what
has
gone
wrong.
Yet
I’m
torn
between
my
responsibility
to
help
Alice,
and
the
knowledge
that
what
I
have
to
say
is
a
truth
I’m
not
sure
this
mother
is
ready
to
hear.
The
truth-
for
this
parent
and
so
many
others—is
this:
Her
child
has
sacrificed
her
natural
curiosity
and
love
of
learning
at
the
altar(圣坛)
of
achievement,
and
it’s
our
fault.
Alice’s
parents,
her
teachers,
society
at
large—we
are
all
supposed
to
be
blamed
in
this
crime
against
learning.
From
her
first
day
of
school,
we
pointed
her
toward
that
altar
and
trained
her
to
measure
her
progress
by
means
of
points,
scores,
and
awards.
We
taught
Alice
that
her
potential
is
tied
to
her
intelligence,
and
that
her
intelligence
is
more
important
than
her
character.
We
taught
her
to
come
home
proudly
bearing
grades
As,
championship
prizes,
and
college
acceptances,
and
not
on
purpose,
we
taught
her
that
we
don’t
really
care
how
she
obtains
them.
We
taught
her
to
protect
her
academic
and
extracurricular
perfection
at
all
costs
and
that
it’s
better
to
quit
when
things
get
challenging
rather
than
risk
losing
that
perfect
record.
Above
all
else,
we
taught
her
fear
failure.
That
fear
is
what
has
destroyed
her
love
of
learning.
24.
Both
the
mother
and
the
teacher
have
noticed
that
.
A.
Alice
hates
to
tell
them
truth
B. Alice’s
test
scores
are
not
so
good
C. Alice
doesn’t
enjoy
studying
any
more
D. Alice
chooses
several
subjects
to
learn
25.
What
dose
the
underlined word
“torn

mean
in
the
passage
A. guilty
to
quit
B. tired
to
manage
C. pained
to
choose
D. certain
to
decide
26.
What
does
the
teacher
think
of
the
girl
A. Her
academic
perfection
resulted
form
her
character
B. Her
academic
performance
is
great.
C. She
is
a
gifted
girl
with
spirits
of
challenging.
D. She
is
perfect
in
her
character
development
27. What
leads
to
the
girl’s
change

A.
Fear
of
failing
getting
good
grades
B. A
few
failure
experiences
C.
Her
mother’s
over-protection
D.
Her
not
being
accepted
by
colleges
C
The
gift
of
being
able
to
describe
a
face
accurately
is
a
rare
one,
as
every
experienced
police
officer
knows
to
his
cost.
As
the
Lancet
put
it
recently,
“When
we
try
to
describe
faces
precisely,
words
fail
us,
and
we
turn
to
identikit
(拼脸型图)
procedures.”
Yet,
according
to
one
authority
on
the
subject,
we
can
each
probably
recognize
more
than
1,000
faces,
the
majority
of
which
differ
in
fine
details.
This,
when
one
comes
to
think
of
it,
is
a
great
achievement,
though,
curiously
enough,
relatively
little
attention
has
been
devoted
to
the
fundamental
problems
of
how
and
why
we
acquire
this
gift
for
recognizing
and
remembering
faces.
Is
it
an
inborn
property
of
our
brains,
or
an
acquired
one
As
so
often
happens,
the
experts
tend
to
differ.
Thus,
some
argue
that
it
is
inborn,
and
that
there
are
“special
characteristics
about
the
brain’s
ability
to
distinguish
faces”.
In
support
of
this,
they
note
how
much
better
we
are
at
recognizing
a
face
after
a
single
meeting
than
we
are,
for
example,
in
recognizing
an
individual
horse.
On
the
other
hand,
there
are
those,
and
they
are
probably
in
the
majority,
who
claim
that
the
gift
is
an
acquired
one.
The
arguments
in
favor
of
this
latter
view,
it
must
be
admitted,
are
impressive.
It
is
a
habit
that
is
acquired
soon
after
birth.
Watch,
for
instance,
how
a
quite
young
baby
recognizes
his
mother
by
sight.
Even
if
his
other
senses
help

the
sound,
his
sense
of
smell,
the
distinctive
way
she
handles
him.
But
of
all
these,
sight
is
the
most
important.
Formed
at
the
very
beginning
of
life,
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
quickly
becomes
an
established
habit,
and
one
that
is,
essential
for
daily
living,
if
not
necessarily
for
survival.
This
unfortunate
inability
to
recognize
familiar
faces
is
known
to
all,
but
such
people
can
often
recognize
individuals
by
their
voices,
or
their
walking
manners.
With
typical
human
intelligence,
many
of
these
unfortunate
people
overcome
their
trouble
by
recognizing
other
characteristic
features.
28.
It
is
stated
in
the
passage
that
______.
A.
it
is
unusual
for
a
person
to
be
able
to
identify
a
face
satisfactorily
B.
few
people
can
give
exact
details
of
the
appearance
of
a
face
C.
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
unhesitatingly
is
an
unusual
gift
D.
quite
a
few
people
can
imagine
faces
they
have
seen
29.
What
the
author
feels
strange
about
is
that
_______.
A.
people
have
the
tremendous
ability
to
recognize
more
than
1,000
faces
B.
people
don’t
realize
how
essential
and
valuable
it
is
for
them
to
have
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
C.
people
have
been
arguing
much
over
the
way
people
recognize
and
remember
faces
D.
people
don’t
think
much
of
the
problem
of
how
and
why
we
acquire
the
ability
to
recognize
and
remember
faces
30.
What
is
the
first
suggested
explanation
of
the
origin
of
the
ability
A.
It
is
one
of
the
characteristics
special
to
human
beings.
B.
It
is
something
we
can
do
from
the
very
moment
we
are
born.
C.
It
is
acquired
soon
after
birth.
D.
It
is
learned
from
our
environment
and
experiences.
31.
This
passage
seems
to
emphasize
that
______.
A.
sight
is
necessary
to
recognizing
individuals
B.
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
is
a
special
inborn
ability
of
the
brain
C.
the
importance
of
the
ability
of
recognizing
faces
is
fully
appreciated
by
people.
D.
the
ability
to
recognize
individuals
is
dependent
on
other
senses
as
well
as
sight
D
Human
remains
of
ancient
settlements
will
be
reburied
and
lost
to
science
under
a
law
that
threatens
research
into
the
history
of
humans
in
Britain,
a
group
of
leading
archeologists(考古学家)
says.
In
a
letter
addressed
to
the
justice
secretary,
Ken
Clarke,
40
archaeologists
write
of
their
“deep
and
widespread
concern”
about
the
issue.
It
centers
on
the
law
introduced
by
the
Ministry
of
Justice
in
2008
which
requires
all
human
remains
dug
in
England
and
Wales
to
be
reburied
within
two
years,
regardless
of
their
age.
The
decision
means
scientists
have
too
little
time
to
study
bones
and
other
human
remains
of
national
and
cultural
significance.
“Your
current
requirement
that
all
archaeologically
unearthed
human
remains
should
be
reburied,
whether
after
a
standard
period
of
two
years
or
a
further
special
extension,
is
contrary
to
basic
principles
of
archaeological
and
scientific
research
and
of
museum
practice,”
they
write.
The
law
applies
to
any
pieces
of
bone
uncovered
at
around
400
dig
sites,
including
the
remains
of
60
or
so
bodies
found
at
Stonehenge
in
2008
that
date
back
to
3,000
BC.
Archaeologists
have
been
granted
a
temporary
extension
to
give
them
more
time,
but
eventually
the
bones
will
have
to
be
returned
to
the
ground.
The
arrangements
may
result
in
the
waste
of
future
discoveries
at
sites
such
as
Happisburgh
in
Norfolk,
where
digging
is
continuing
after
the
discovery
of
stone
tools
made
by
early
humans
950,000
years
ago.
If
human
remains
were
found
at
Happisburgh,
they
would
be
the
oldest
in
northern
Europe
and
the
first
indication
of
what
this
species
was.
Under
the
current
practice
of
the
law
those
remains
would
have
to
be
reburied
and
effectively
destroyed.
Before
2008,
guidelines
allowed
for(考虑到)
the
proper
preservation
and
study
of
bones
of
sufficient
age
and
historical
interest,
while
the
Burial
Act
1857
applied
to
more
recent
remains.
The
Ministry
of
Justice
assured
archaeologists
two
years
ago
that
the
law
was
temporary,
but
has
so
far
failed
to
change
it.
Mike
Parker
Pearson,
an
archaeologist
at
Sheffield
University,
said:
“Archaeologists
have
been
extremely
patient
because
we
were
led
to
believe
the
ministry
was
sorting
out
this
problem,
but
we
feel
that
we
cannot
wait
any
longer.”
The
ministry
has
no
guidelines
on
where
or
how
remains
should
be
reburied,
or
on
what
records
should
be
kept.
32.
According
to
the
passage,
scientists
are
unhappy
with
the
law
mainly
because
______.
A.
it
is
unreasonable
and
thus
destructive
to
scientific
research
B.
it
is
only
a
temporary
measure
on
the
human
remains
C.
it
was
introduced
by
the
government
without
their
knowledge
D.
it
is
vague
about
where
and
how
to
rebury
human
remains
33.
Which
of
the
following
statements
is
true
according
to
the
passage
A.
Temporary
extension
of
two
years
will
guarantee
scientists
enough
time.
B.
Human
remains
will
have
to
be
reburied
despite
the
extension
of
time.
C.
Human
remains
of
the
oldest
species
were
dug
out
at
Happisburgh.
D.
Scientists
have
been
warned
that
the
law
can
hardly
be
changed.
34.
What
can
be
inferred
about
the
British
law
governing
human
remains
A.
The
Ministry

第二节
(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Imagine
that
you’re
an
actor
or
actress
performing
in
a
play
for
the
first
time.
You’ve
learned
all
your
lines
and
you
know
where
to
walk
on
stage.
Waiting
behind
the
closed
curtain,
you
can
hear
the
audience
whispering.
Then
your
big
moment
arrives!
The
curtain
goes
up,
and
the
crowd
falls
silent.
All
you
can
see
is
the
spotlight
shining
down
on
you.
36
The
inside
of
your
mouth
is
dry,
and
your
hands
are
wet.
If
you’ve
experienced
a
moment
like
this,
you
know
all
too
well
what
it
means
to
have
stage
fright.
It’s
one
of
the
most
common
types
of
fear.
37
You
can
experience
this
kind
of
fear
when
playing
sports,
giving
a
talk,
or
even
speaking
in
class.
38
The
experience
differs
from
person
to
person,
but
the
same
chemical
process
occurs
on
each
of
us.
In
reaction
to
anxiety,
our
bodies
produce
a
chemical
that
prepares
us
to
either
fight
or
run
away
quickly.
Scientists
refer
to
this
as
our
bodies’
“fight
for
flight”
reaction.
As
a
result,
we
feel
the
great
energy
that
makes
our
hands
sweat,
our
hearts
race
and
knees
shake.
39
Practicing
your
performance
and
following
some
simple
tips
can
help
you
calm
down
and
manage
the
feelings
caused
by
anxiety.
Firstly,
dress
comfortably
and
appropriately.
Secondly,
before
the
performance,
take
deep
breaths
and
stretch
to
help
relax
your
body.
Thirdly,
stay
away
from
drinks
that
contain
caffeine.
40
Instead,
try
a
banana!
Some
doctors
believe
that
eating
a
banana
can
help
calm
your
heart
and
the
rest
of
your
body.
Finally,
when
you
look
into
a
crowd,
try
to
focus
on
particular
people
rather
than
the
whole
group.
These
tips
have
helped
many
people
learn
to
deal
with
their
fears.
A.
However,
the
good
news
about
stage
fright
is
that
there
are
ways
to
deal
with
it.
B.
These
might
make
your
heart
race
even
faster.
C.
Maybe
you
don’t
have
to
be
onstage
to
get
stage
fright.
D.
Stage
fright
is
really
part
of
the
body’s
reaction
to
stress.
E.
With
practice,
we
can
learn
how
to
relax
while
playing
sports.
F.
Then
you
try
to
speak
your
lines,
but
nothing
seems
to
come
out.
G.
There’s
a
time
when
stage
fright
prevents
you
from
stepping
onstage.

“Her
grades
are
fine;
I’m
not
worried
about
that,
but
she
just
doesn’t
seem
to
love
learning
any
more.”
Alice’s
mum
said.
She’s
absolutely
right.
I’d
noticed
the
same
thing
about
her
daughter
over
the
previous
two
or
three
years
when
I’d
been
Alice’s
middle
school
English,
Latin,
and
writing
teacher,
and
I
have
an
answer,
right
there
on
the
tip
of
my
tongue,
for
what
has
gone
wrong.
Yet
I’m
torn
between
my
responsibility
to
help
Alice,
and
the
knowledge
that
what
I
have
to
say
is
a
truth
I’m
not
sure
this
mother
is
ready
to
hear.
The
truth-
for
this
parent
and
so
many
others—is
this:
Her
child
has
sacrificed
her
natural
curiosity
and
love
of
learning
at
the
altar(圣坛)
of
achievement,
and
it’s
our
fault.
Alice’s
parents,
her
teachers,
society
at
large—we
are
all
supposed
to
be
blamed
in
this
crime
against
learning.
From
her
first
day
of
school,
we
pointed
her
toward
that
altar
and
trained
her
to
measure
her
progress
by
means
of
points,
scores,
and
awards.
We
taught
Alice
that
her
potential
is
tied
to
her
intelligence,
and
that
her
intelligence
is
more
important
than
her
character.
We
taught
her
to
come
home
proudly
bearing
grades
As,
championship
prizes,
and
college
acceptances,
and
not
on
purpose,
we
taught
her
that
we
don’t
really
care
how
she
obtains
them.
We
taught
her
to
protect
her
academic
and
extracurricular
perfection
at
all
costs
and
that
it’s
better
to
quit
when
things
get
challenging
rather
than
risk
losing
that
perfect
record.
Above
all
else,
we
taught
her
fear
failure.
That
fear
is
what
has
destroyed
her
love
of
learning.

experiences
C.
Her

D.

C
The
gift
of
being
able
to
describe
a
face
accurately
is
a
rare
one,
as
every
experienced
police
officer
knows
to
his
cost.
As
the
Lancet
put
it
recently,
“When
we
try
to
describe
faces
precisely,
words
fail
us,
and
we
turn
to
identikit
(拼脸型图)
procedures.”
Yet,
according
to
one
authority
on
the
subject,
we
can
each
probably
recognize
more
than
1,000
faces,
the
majority
of
which
differ
in
fine
details.
This,
when
one
comes
to
think
of
it,
is
a
great
achievement,
though,
curiously
enough,
relatively
little
attention
has
been
devoted
to
the
fundamental
problems
of
how
and
why
we
acquire
this
gift
for
recognizing
and
remembering
faces.
Is
it
an
inborn
property
of
our
brains,
or
an
acquired
one
As
so
often
happens,
the
experts
tend
to
differ.
Thus,
some
argue
that
it
is
inborn,
and
that
there
are
“special
characteristics
about
the
brain’s
ability
to
distinguish
faces”.
In
support
of
this,
they
note
how
much
better
we
are
at
recognizing
a
face
after
a
single
meeting
than
we
are,
for
example,
in
recognizing
an
individual
horse.
On
the
other
hand,
there
are
those,
and
they
are
probably
in
the
majority,
who
claim
that
the
gift
is
an
acquired
one.
The
arguments
in
favor
of
this
latter
view,
it
must
be
admitted,
are
impressive.
It
is
a
habit
that
is
acquired
soon
after
birth.
Watch,
for
instance,
how
a
quite
young
baby
recognizes
his
mother
by
sight.
Even
if
his
other
senses
help

the
sound,
his
sense
of
smell,
the
distinctive
way
she
handles
him.
But
of
all
these,
sight
is
the
most
important.
Formed
at
the
very
beginning
of
life,
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
quickly
becomes
an
established
habit,
and
one
that
is,
essential
for
daily
living,
if
not
necessarily
for
survival.
This
unfortunate
inability
to
recognize
familiar
faces
is
known
to
all,
but
such
people
can
often
recognize
individuals
by
their
voices,
or
their
walking
manners.
With
typical
human
intelligence,
many
of
these
unfortunate
people
overcome
their
trouble
by
recognizing
other
characteristic
features.
28.
It
is
stated
in
the
passage
that
______.
A.
it
is
unusual
for
a
person
to
be
able
to
identify
a
face
satisfactorily
B.
few
people
can
give
exact
details
of
the
appearance
of

recognize
faces
unhesitatingly
is
an
unusual
gift
D.

What
the
author
feels
strange
about
is
that
_______.
A.
people
have
the
tremendous
ability
to

more
than
1,000

B.

to
have
the

to

C.
people
have

much
over
the

D.
people
don’t
think
much
of
the
problem
of
how
and
why
we
acquire
the
ability
to
recognize
and
remember
faces
30.
What
is
the
first
suggested
explanation
of
the
origin
of
the
ability
A.
It
is
one
of
the
characteristics
special
to
human
beings.
B.
It
is
something
we
can
do
from
the
very
moment
we
are
born.
C.
It
is
acquired
soon
after

D.
It
is
learned

This
passage
seems
to
emphasize
that
______.
A.
sight
is
necessary
to
recognizing
individuals
B.
the
ability
to
recognize
faces
is
a
special
inborn
ability
of
the

C.
the
importance
of
the
ability
of
recognizing
faces
is
fully
appreciated
by
people.
D.
the
ability
to

D
Human
remains
of
ancient
settlements
will
be
reburied
and
lost
to
science
under
a
law
that
threatens
research
into
the
history
of
humans
in
Britain,
a
group
of
leading
archeologists(考古学家)
says.
In
a
letter
addressed
to
the
justice
secretary,
Ken
Clarke,
40
archaeologists
write
of
their
“deep
and
widespread
concern”
about
the
issue.
It
centers
on
the
law
introduced
by
the
Ministry
of
Justice
in
2008
which
requires
all
human
remains
dug
in
England
and
Wales
to
be
reburied
within
two
years,
regardless
of
their
age.
The
decision
means
scientists
have
too
little
time
to
study
bones
and
other
human
remains
of
national
and
cultural
significance.
“Your
current
requirement
that
all
archaeologically
unearthed
human
remains
should
be
reburied,
whether
after
a
standard
period
of
two
years
or
a
further
special
extension,
is
contrary
to
basic
principles
of
archaeological
and
scientific
research
and
of
museum
practice,”
they
write.
The
law
applies
to
any
pieces
of
bone
uncovered
at
around
400
dig
sites,
including
the
remains
of
60
or
so
bodies
found
at
Stonehenge
in
2008
that
date
back
to
3,000
BC.
Archaeologists
have
been
granted
a
temporary
extension
to
give
them
more
time,
but
eventually
the
bones
will
have
to
be
returned
to
the
ground.
The
arrangements
may
result
in
the
waste
of
future
discoveries
at
sites
such
as
Happisburgh
in
Norfolk,
where
digging
is
continuing
after
the
discovery
of
stone
tools
made
by
early
humans
950,000
years
ago.
If
human
remains
were
found
at
Happisburgh,
they
would
be
the
oldest
in
northern
Europe
and
the
first
indication
of
what
this
species
was.
Under
the
current
practice
of
the
law
those
remains
would
have
to
be
reburied
and
effectively
destroyed.
Before
2008,
guidelines
allowed
for(考虑到)
the
proper
preservation
and
study
of
bones
of
sufficient
age
and
historical
interest,
while
the
Burial
Act
1857
applied
to
more
recent
remains.
The
Ministry
of
Justice
assured
archaeologists
two
years
ago
that
the
law
was
temporary,
but
has
so
far
failed
to
change
it.
Mike
Parker
Pearson,
an
archaeologist
at
Sheffield
University,
said:
“Archaeologists
have
been
extremely
patient
because
we
were
led
to
believe
the
ministry
was
sorting
out
this
problem,
but
we
feel
that
we
cannot
wait
any
longer.”
The
ministry
has
no
guidelines
on
where
or
how
remains
should
be
reburied,
or
on
what
records
should
be
kept.
32.
According
to
the
passage,
scientists
are
unhappy
with
the
law
mainly
because
______.
A.
it
is
unreasonable
and
thus
destructive
to
scientific
research
B.
it
is
only
a
temporary
measure
on
the
human
remains
C.
it
was
introduced
by
the
government
without
their
knowledge
D.
it
is
vague
about
where
and
how
to
rebury
human
remains
33.
Which
of
the
following
statements
is
true
according
to
the
passage
A.
Temporary
extension
of
two
years
will
guarantee
scientists
enough
time.
B.
Human
remains
will
have
to
be
reburied
despite
the
extension
of
time.
C.
Human
remains
of
the
oldest
species
were
dug
out
at
Happisburgh.
D.
Scientists
have
been
warned
that
the
law
can
hardly
be
changed.
34.
What
can
be
inferred
about
the
British
law
governing
human
remains
A.
The
Ministry
of
Justice
has
not
done
enough
about
the
law.
B.
The
Ministry
of
Justice
did
not
intend
it
to
protect
human
remains.
C.
The
Burial
Act
1857
only
applied
to

uncovered
before
1857.
C.
The
law
on

Which
of
the
following
might
be
the
best
title

A.
New

第二节
(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Imagine
that
you’re
an
actor
or
actress
performing
in
a
play
for
the
first
time.
You’ve
learned
all
your
lines
and
you
know
where
to
walk
on
stage.
Waiting
behind
the
closed
curtain,
you
can
hear
the
audience
whispering.
Then
your
big
moment
arrives!
The
curtain
goes
up,
and
the
crowd
falls
silent.
All
you
can
see
is
the
spotlight
shining
down
on
you.
36
The
inside
of
your
mouth
is
dry,
and
your
hands
are
wet.
If
you’ve
experienced
a
moment
like
this,
you
know
all
too
well
what
it
means
to
have
stage
fright.
It’s
one
of
the
most
common
types
of
fear.
37
You
can
experience
this
kind
of
fear
when
playing
sports,
giving
a
talk,
or
even
speaking
in
class.
38
The
experience
differs
from
person
to
person,
but
the
same
chemical
process
occurs
on
each
of
us.
In
reaction
to
anxiety,
our
bodies
produce
a
chemical
that
prepares
us
to
either
fight
or
run
away
quickly.
Scientists
refer
to
this
as
our
bodies’
“fight
for
flight”
reaction.
As
a
result,
we
feel
the
great
energy
that
makes
our
hands
sweat,
our
hearts
race
and
knees
shake.
39
Practicing
your
performance
and
following
some
simple
tips
can
help
you
calm
down
and
manage
the
feelings
caused
by
anxiety.
Firstly,
dress
comfortably
and
appropriately.
Secondly,
before
the
performance,
take
deep
breaths
and
stretch
to
help
relax
your
body.
Thirdly,
stay
away
from
drinks
that
contain
caffeine.
40
Instead,
try
a
banana!
Some
doctors
believe
that
eating
a
banana
can
help
calm
your
heart
and
the
rest
of
your
body.
Finally,
when
you
look
into
a
crowd,
try
to
focus
on
particular
people
rather
than
the
whole
group.
These
tips
have
helped
many
people
learn
to
deal
with
their
fears.
A.
However,
the
good
news
about
stage
fright
is
that
there
are
ways
to
deal
with
it.
B.
These
might
make
your
heart
race
even
faster.
C.
Maybe
you
don’t
have
to
be
onstage
to
get
stage
fright.
D.
Stage
fright
is
really
part
of
the
body’s
reaction
to
stress.
E.
With
practice,
we
can
learn
how
to
relax
while
playing
sports.
F.
Then
you
try
to
speak
your
lines,
but
nothing
seems
to
come
out.
G.
There’s
a
time
when
stage
fright
prevents
you
from
stepping
onstage.

my
house
__43__.
At
one
point,
I
was
running
back
to
the
pool.
I
__44__
on
a
bee,
and
while
it
was
dying
under
my
foot,
it
stung
(蛰)
me.
I
instantly
started
to
feel
__45__.
That
night,
I
began
to
run
a
high
fever
and
my
leg
and
foot
were
red,
hot
and
swollen.
I
couldn't
walk.
I
could
barely
__46__.
When
my
foot
started
to
go
numb,
everyone
became
more
__47__.
My
foot
was
not
getting
enough
blood.
I
had
to
go
to
the
__48__,
and
my
leg
hurt
as
if
it
were
badly
broken.
I
couldn't
move.
All
I
could
do
was
think
about
how
soft
my
middle
was
becoming.
That
__49__
me
more
than
any
concern
over
my
leg.
That
would
all
__50__
when
I
heard
the
doctors
mention
possibly
cutting
off
my
foot.
It
was
still
not
getting
the
__51__
supply
it
needed.
The
doctors
would
have
to
speed
up
their
treatment.
Never
before
did
I
have
such
great
__52__
for
my
foot.
And
walking
seemed
like
a
__53__
from
the
gods.
Less
and
less
would
I
want
to
hear
my
friends
talk
about
__54__
and
who
was
wearing
what.
More
and
more
I
expected
visits
from
other
kids
in
the
hospital,
who
were
quickly
becoming
my
friends.
One
girl
came
to
visit
me
__55__.
Every
time
she
came,
she
brought
flowers.
She
was
recovering
from
cancer
and
felt
she
should
come
back
and
__56__
the
other
patients.
She
still
had
no
hair,
and
she
was
swollen
from
medications
she
had
been
taking.
I
would
not
have
given
this
girl
a
second
__57__
before.
I
now
loved
every
inch
of
her
and
looked
forward
to
her
__58__.
Finally,
I
was
improving
and
soon
I
went
home.
My
leg
was
still
swollen,
__59__
I
was
walking,
and
I
had
my
foot!
When
I
would
go
back
to
the
hospital,
I
often
saw
my
friend.
She
was
still
visiting
people
and
__60__
good
cheer.
I
thought
if
even
there
was
an
angel
on
this
earth,
it
had
to
be
her.

On

of
problems
was
waiting
for
her.
She
was
told
six
teachers
61
(quit)
before
her.
When
she
walked
into
the
classroom,
it
was
chaos:
two
boys
were
fighting
in
a
corner,
yet
62
rest
of
the
class
seemed
not
to
notice
them;
some
girls
were
chatting
and
some
were
running
about
with
paper,
food
packages
and
other
garbage
63

Sally

platform,

wrote
on

Sally

out
10
class
