UNIT 3 My Country and English-speaking Countries
Lesson 17 Let's Look at a Map!
一、教学设计思路
本课的主要内容是简单了解世界上的主要英语国家及区分地图的东、南、西、北。本课时中，教师首先通过出示世界地图或动画歌曲rainbow复习颜色词；然后，通过教师引导进行map和country的教学，并通过教师为学生设计任务，小组进行讨论，由学生自主完成Canada等国家的了解学习。最后，通过各种小游戏是学生对本课知识进行巩固。
二、教学目标
（一）知识
听说认读map, country；north, south, east, west。
了解有关地图及各个国家的其他知识。
（二）能力
能用简单的英语表达自己的想法，并与他人进行交流，从而形成一定的口语交际能力。
（三）情感
培养学生学英语、用英语做事情的兴趣，促进学生的口语交际能力。。
三、教学重点
单词map, country；north, south, east, west。
难点：用英语描述地图上的方向，能正确区分south, north, east, west。
四、教学媒体
1．一张世界地图及各种不同地图。
2．几个主要英语国家图。
3．录音机及磁带。
4．教学课件（视频资源）。
五、教学过程
1．导入
1）播放动画歌曲rainbow，复习颜色词。
2）教师出示一张世界地图。让学生辨认几个主要英语国家。
2．呈现新课
1）A map of the world
教师将世界地图挂在黑板上，或通过课件呈现：
T: Do you know what this is This is a piece of map. We can find many places on it.
T: Map, follow me! （教师出示不同的地图，让学生理解map）
T: Look! This is a map. A map of the world. (Write down the title on the blackboard)
What colour is China
S1: China is red.
T: Good! Can you find it Read.
T: Can you find other countries Point them to me.
教师教学country：
通过指向不同国家让学生理解country的含义。
2）教师将学生分组，布置任务：
T: Can you find other countries on the map What colours are them？
让各个小组进行讨论。
3）给学生充分的讨论时间后，对学生的任务完成情况进行评价。
T: Don’t look at a map. What colour is Canada
S2: It’s green.
T: We can say, Canada is green.
以类似的方法教学其它countries。
4）学习United States, United Kingdom, Australia并告诉学生们缩写形式。
5） “North, south, east, west”
（画一个指南针）
T: What is it
S: 指南针
T: It’s a compass.
Do you know how to identify the directions with the compass （你们知道如何利用指南针识别方向吗？）
S1: 上北，下南，左西，右东。
6）T: This is north. North points up on a map.
North, follow me.
T: What’s this
S2: This is south.
T: South points down. (强调相同部分th的发音)
T: This is
S3: West.
T: Yes! West points left.
T: This is east. East points…
S4: East points right.
7）播放视频资源中direction或world让学生进一步巩固本课知识。
3．趣味操练
1）Play “Simon Says” to practice “north,” “south,” “east,” “west” and “map.” Use phrases such as: (Simon says) point north/south/east/west/to a map.
2）Play another game. Ask for two volunteers. Student 1 leaves the room. The class then chooses an object in the room for Student 1 to find. Student 2 then directs Student 1 to the object with commands as follows:
Student 2: Go north! Stop! Go west! Stop! Go east! Stop! What is it
Student 1: (Hold up, or point to, an object.) Is it this/ ___
4．课堂评价
做活动手册Lesson 17练习，通过看图填词和the pigs are looking for apples检查学生对本课知识的掌握情况。另外，师生评价，生生评价，自我评价要体现在教学各个活动中。
5．课后作业
画一张中国地图或从网上下载一张中国地图。归纳总结中国的名胜古迹。
