How many hours do you sleep every night Do you have enough sleep Now, listen to me to tell you something about students' sleep. And finish the two questions on the form while listening.
In China, more and more middle school students are getting shorter sleep, less than 8 hours every night, because they have too much homework to do. Some homework is given by their teachers, and some by their parents. Also, some students don't know how to save time. They are not careful enough while they do their homework, so it takes them a lot of time. Some students spend too much time watching TV programs or playing computer games. They stay up late. Some students have to get up early every day on weekdays to get to school on time by bus or bike. It can be a long way from home to school.
Schools and parents should cut down on some of the homework so that the children can enjoy more than nine hours of sleep every night for their health. As we know, children are our country's future. They should be well cared for.

Jack loves to ride his bike. It's his favorite activity. But he made a big mistake last Wednesday. He acted foolishly. He did not know the safety rules. He did not think about keeping his body safe.
Thinking before you act can help you avoid many accidents. Knowing what to do can keep you or someone close to you safe. Remember that when you ride a bicycle, you share the road with trucks and cars. Listen to the following rules. They can help you stay away from danger. On your paper, you can see a form about bike riding safety rules. Please put a tick in the small square before the sentences you hear.
1. Always wear a helmet.
2. Don't ride on the sidewalk so you won't run into someone walking.
3. Always ride on bike paths.
4. Always ride in the same direction as the traffic.
5. Use hand signals when you stop or turn.
6. Obey traffic lights and signals.
7. Walk your bike across busy crossings.
8. If you ride with a friend, ride one behind the other, not side by side.
9. If you ride at night, use your headlights, wear light-colored clothing, and make sure you have reflectors on your bike.
Do you know what mistakes Jack made that day He rode his bike side by side with his classmates Tom, and hit a boy who was walking home.

Thank you for coming to this meeting for students who will stay at school during the winter holidays. It is my duty to tell you what to do and have you fill out forms giving the dates you will be at school. To cut down costs, Bullet Hall will be the only house for you to stay in. All the other houses will close at 5 p.m., on Friday, February 7, and will not re-open until 6 p.m., on February 16. Once we have your forms, we will offer you a room in Buller Hall. Please move all the things you will need to your new room by the 7th as it will not be possible to re-open the other houses during these days, once they have been closed. Some places of our school will be closed during the holidays. They are the labs, the school store and the dancing hall. The library and the computer center will be open, though at a shorter service time. Only the post office and most school offices will keep their usual hours. Of course, you don't have to worry about your meals. Since I imagine most of you are staying here to prepare new lessons for next term, let me wish you good luck with your work. If you have any special problems, please call me at my office before February 3rd.
