第五部分
书面表达(25分)
One
possible
version:
Different
countries
adopt
different
tolerance
towards
one’s
lateness.
Actually,
some
people
are
late
not
deliberately
but
because
they
misunderstand
others’
opinions
or
pay
too
much
attention
to
details.
As
we
all
know,
frequent
lateness
will
have
negative
effects
on
one’s
daily
life.
On
the
one
hand,
unpunctual
people
tend
to
leave
a
bad
impression
on
those
who
have
made
the
appointment
with
them.
Others
usually
regard
being
punctual
as
a
sign
of
keeping
the
promise.
On
the
other
hand,
lateness
sometimes
brings
about
much
trouble
in
solving
urgent
problems.
As
for
those
who
are
unintentionally
late,
like
Johnson
and
Joanna,
I
have
two
suggestions
as
follows.
First,
whenever
you
make
appointments
with
others,
make
sure
you
have
understood
all
the
details
and
try
to
get
there
a
few
minutes
before
the
appointed
time.
Second,
make
good
preparations
for
the
appointments
but
never
become
too
particular
about
every
detail.

Yes,
you

The

But

I

Yeah,

a

I

M:
I’d
like
to

W:
I’m
sorry,
we
only
have
tables
for
four
people
at
the

M:
Oh!
Can’t
you
just
put
two
tables
together
W:
I’m
sorry,
sir.
But
you
need
to
have
at
least
seven
people
to
do
that.
Normally,
we
could
help
you,
but
it’s
a
Saturday
and
the
big
game
is
on.
M:
Oh,
I
forgot
about
that.
W:
You
should
try
calling
our
bar
downstairs.
They
have
tables
for
five,
(9)
although
they
have
a
different
menu.
M:
OK,
thanks.

you

Certainly.

W:
Do
you
have
any
time
this
afternoon,
Dave
I
need
help
with
my
essay
that’s
due
tomorrow.
(10)
It’s
almost
the
end
of
the
term,
and
this
paper
counts
for
half
of
my
grade.
M:
Sure.
What
do
you
need
help
with
(11)
W:
Well,
I
don’t
know
how
to
write
the
last
part
of
my
paper.
(11)
M:
You
mean
a
conclusion
W:
Yeah.
I’ve
been
working
on
it
for
a
couple
days.
It
just
seems
like
it’s
supposed
to
mention
everything
I
just
wrote
about.
M:
Well,
that’s
true.
But
you
also
need
to
give
your
readers
something
they
will
remember.
W:
But
if
you
read
my
paper,
shouldn’t
you
know
what
my
thoughts
are
M:
Yes,
but
a
conclusion
helps
your
readers
understand
what
is
most
important.
W:
Will
you
read
what
I
have
so
far
and
tell
me
if
I’m
on
the
right
track
(12)
M:
Sure.

M:
The
World
Cup
this
year
has
been
really
exciting.
Who
are
you
cheering
for
W:
Well,
I
cheer
for
England
when
my
parents
are
around.
(13)
But
I
secretly
want
Portugal
to
win.
M:
Probably
because
you
like
Cristiano
Ronaldo.
Is
that
the
only
player
you
know
W:
Yeah,
pretty
much.
M:
Well,
do
you
think
Portugal
is
going
to
beat
Spain
tonight
W:
I
hope
so.
Although
Spain
hasn’t
lost
a
single
game
yet,
and
Portugal
has
been
playing
pretty
badly
so
far.
(14)
M:
Maybe
Ronaldo
will
score
three
goals,
and
they
will
go
to
the
championship
match.
W:
I
think
there’s
a
better
chance
of
him
marrying
me,
to
be
honest.
M:
I
agree
with
you,
but
crazy
things
can
happen!
Spain
thinks
they’re
the
best
in
the
world.
They’re
way
too
confident.
That’s
often
when
teams
end
up
losing.
(15)
W:
Maybe
you’re
right,
but
my
money
is
still
on
Spain.
Would
you
care
to
place
a
little
bet
on
the
game
Say,
20
dollars
(16)
M:
Whoa,
I
don’t
want
to
take
that
much
money
from
a
friend!
How
about
half
that
amount
(16)
W:
Deal.

We’re

Carving
Festival.
And
as
you
can
see,
we
have
700
participants
of
all
different
ages
this
year.
(17)
So
it’s
not
just
for
the
kids.
Unlike
last
year
where
there
was
one
grand
prize
winner,
this
year
they
have
added
a
couple
prizes,
(18)
including
“The
Great
Pumpkin”,
which
goes
to
the
person
who
has
grown
the
largest
pumpkin,
and
“Celebrity
Pumpkin”,
which
is
a
jack-o-lantern
carved
to
look
like
the
face
of
a
famous
person
they
like.
As
you
can
imagine,
there
are
a
lot
of
works
about
Donald
Trump
this
year!
Of
course,
there
is
also
the
biggest
prize
of
all:
$10,000
to
“The
Grand
Pumpkin”,
(19)
which
is
the
best
jack-o-lantern
from
all
the
competitors.
It’s
$20
per
person
to
get
into
the
festival,
just
like
last
year.
But
a
lot
of
that
money
is
going
to
charity,
so
it’s
for
a
good
cause.
This
is
Sherry
Watkins,
live
from
Westfield
