On
a
rainy
night
three
years
ago
my
dear
mom
went
to
accompany
her
Lord.
She
did
it
her
way.
I
got
the
call
at
work,
and
l
headed
home
quickly.
Mom
and
Dad
lived
on
a
small
farm
that
they
had
owned
since
I
was
seven.
I
hated
going
there
every
weekend.
There
was
nothing
for
a
young
girl
to
do
but
watch
the
one
station
on
the
old
TV
set,
if
the
weather
allowed
reception.
My
mom,
on
the
other
hand,
loved
the
peace
and
quiet
of
the
land.
The
place
was
rural,
with
no
indoor
plumbing
or
heat.
We
had
a
big
wood
stove
in
the
kitchen
that
did
its
best
to
heat
the
little
farmhouse,
but
it
always
seemed
cold
and
too
quiet
to
me.
In
the
evenings,
my
mom
and
I
would
sit
for
hours
singing
in
the
little
kitchen.
I
sang
the
melody
and
Mom
harmonized.
Her
favorite
song
was
“Moon
River”
and
we
sang
it
over
and
over.
Mom
told
me
stories
about
how
when
I
was
a
little
girl
I
could
sing
before
I
could
talk.
As
time
passed,
I
had
my
own
children
and
went
to
visit
them
every
week
or
two.
The
kids
loved
the
farm
and
the
tractor
rides
with
my
dad.
Me,
well,
I
still
hated
the
silence
of
the
farm.
While
my
mom
loved
to
sit
at
her
kitchen
table
and
look
out
at
her
garden
and
flowers
and
retell
all
the
old
stories,
I
missed
the
hustle
and
bustle
of
my
life
at
home.
But
I
sat
there
listening
quietly
as
she
reminisced.
Now,
I
sat
back
in
the
silence
and
the
silence
was
deathly
so
I
finally
leaned
over
to
turn
on
an
old
radio.
Music
always
comforted
me.
My
heart
skipped
a
beat.
“Moon
River”
was
playing
on
the
radio.
I
sat
there
wordless,
with
a
tear
running
down
my
cheek;
as
I
listened
to
every
familiar
note.

COLUMBUS,
Ohio—The
heart
operation
taking
place
in
the
pale-green
operating
room
at
the
Ohio
State
University
Medical
Center
was
unusual.
The
patient,
a
62-year-old
man,
was
made
to
sleep,
tied
with
blue
drapes
(消毒帷帘)
and
lying
face
up
on
a
narrow
table.
But
no
one
was
touching
him.
Instead,
the
operation
was
being
performed
by
a
robot,
whose
three
metal
arms
went
through
pencil-sized
holes
in
the
man’s
chest.
At
the
ends
of
the
robot’s
arms
were
tiny
metal
fingers,
with
turning
wrists,
which
held
a
tiny
instrument,
a
light
and
a
camera.
The
robot’s
arms
and
fingers
were
controlled
by
Dr.
Randall
K.
Wolf,
sitting
at
a
computer
in
a
corner
of
the
operating
room
about
20
feet
away.
This
sort
of
operation,
heart
surgeons
say,
is
the
start
of
what
may
be
the
biggest
change
in
their
profession
since
heart
bypass
surgery
(心脏搭桥手术)
began
nearly
30
years
ago.
“The
reason
we
make
cuts
is
that
we
have
big
hands,”
said
Dr.
Wolf,
the
director
of
the
surgery
at
Ohio
State.
The
robot’s
dainty
fingers,
no
longer
than
a
nail
on
the
small
finger,
at
the
end
of
the
long
sticks
could
work
better.
Eventually,
surgeons
believe,
most
heart
surgery
will
be
done
by
robots
whose
arms
are
put
in
through
pencil-sized
holes
punched
in
patients’
chests.
Instead
of
directly
staring
into
a
patient’s
body,
surgeons
will
view
magnified
images
of
the
operation
on
computer
screens.
In
theory,
the
doctor
would
not
have
to
be
in
the
same
room,
or
even
the
same
country,
as
the
patient.
28.
In
this
passage,
the
underlined
word
“dainty”
means
“
_______
”.
A.
weak
B.
fat
C.
small
D.
quick
29.
According
to
the
passage,
the
reason
that
most
operations
require
large
cuts
is
that
___________
.
A.
surgeons
have
large
hands
B.
patients
have
large
organs
C.
large
cuts
take
less
time
D.
large
cuts
cost
less
money
30.
The
main
idea
of
this
passage
is
that
heart
surgery
by
robots___________
.
A.
is
quicker
than
surgery
done
by
doctors
B.
may
replace
surgery
done
by
doctors
C.
is
a
new
and
risky
procedure
D.
was
developed
at
Ohio
State
University
31.
Based
on
the
information
in
this
passage,
all
of
the
following
conclusions
are
true
EXCEPT
that___
.
A.
robot
surgery
is
being
developed
at
Ohio
State
B.
robot
surgery
will
be
used
on
many
patients
in
the
near
future
C.
all

techniques
D.

Bad
news
sells.
If
it
bleeds,
it
leads.
No
news
is
good
news,
and
good
news
is
no
news.
Those
are
the
classic
rules
for
the
evening
broadcasts
and
the
morning
papers.
But
now
that
information
is
being
spread
and
monitored
(监控)
in
different
ways,
researchers
are
discovering
new
rules.
By
tracking
people’s
e-mails
and
online
posts,
scientists
have
found
that
good
news
can
spread
faster
and
farther
than
disasters
and
sob
stories.
“The
‘if
it
bleeds’
rule
works
for
mass
media,”
says
Jonah
Berger,
a
scholar
at
the
University
of
Pennsylvania.
“They
want
your
eyeballs
and
don’t
care
how
you’re
feeling.
But
when
you
share
a
story
with
your
friends,
you
care
a
lot
more
how
they
react.
You
don’t
want
them
to
think
of
you
as
a
Debbie
Downer.”
Researchers
analyzing
word-of-mouth
communication—e-mails,
Web
posts
and
reviews,
face-to-face
conversations—found
that
it
tended
to
be
more
positive
than
negative
(消极的),
but
that
didn’t
necessarily
mean
people
preferred
positive
news.
Was
positive
news
shared
more
often
simply
because
people
experienced
more
good
things
than
bad
things
To
test
for
that
possibility,
Dr.
Berger
looked
at
how
people
spread
a
particular
set
of
news
stories:
thousands
of
articles
on
The
New
York
Times’
website.
He
and
a
Penn
colleague
analyzed
the
“most
e-mailed”
list
for
six
months.
One
of
his
first
findings
was
that
articles
in
the
science
section
were
much
more
likely
to
make
the
list
than
non-science
articles.
He
found
that
science
amazed
Times’
readers
and
made
them
want
to
share
this
positive
feeling
with
others.
Readers
also
tended
to
share
articles
that
were
exciting
or
funny,
or
that
inspired
negative
feelings
like
anger
or
anxiety,
but
not
articles
that
left
them
merely
sad.
They
needed
to
be
aroused
(激发)
one
way
or
the
other,
and
they
preferred
good
news
to
bad.
The
more
positive
an
article,
the
more
likely
it
was
to
be
shared,
as
Dr.
Berger
explains
in
his
new
book,
“Contagious:
Why
Things
Catch
On.”

B.
They’re

They’re

We
often
focus
on
building
relationships
with
others
that
we
forget
the
essential
first
step:
being
friends
of
ourselves.
36
.
How
can
we
have
good
relationships
with
others
if
we
don’t
even
have
good
relationships
with
ourselves
The
problem
might
be
worse
than
we
expect.
Maybe
we
don’t
like
ourselves
without
realizing
it.
Here
is
a
simple
checklist:
Is
there
anything
you
don’t
like
about
yourself
from
these
lists
Your
past:
Maybe
you
have
made
mistakes
in
the
past
which
you
feel
bad
about.
37
.
Even
if
that
happened
in
distant
past,
your
subconscious
mind
still
has
a
reason
not
to
like
yourself.
Your
background:
You
might
wish
that
you
were
born
in
different
family,
or
that
you
have
different
background.
38
.
They
seem
to
get
whatever
they
want
effortlessly
because
of
their
background.
Your
personal
traits(特点):
You
might
have
some
personality
traits
that
you
don’t
like.
For
example,
you
may
be
an
introvert(内向)
and
you
don’t
like
it;
you
wish
you
were
an
extrovert.
Others
might
have
better
achievements
than
you,
and
no
matter
how
hard
you
tried,
it
might
seem
impossible
for
you
to
match
them.
39
.
Is
there
anything
that
resonate(产生共鸣)
with
you
All
these
give
reasons
to
you
not
to
like
yourself.
That
in
turn
makes
it
difficult
for
you
to
be
a
good
friend
to
yourself.
40
.
Here
are
some
tips:
Forgive
yourself.
Accept
things
you
can’t
change.
Focus
on
your
strengths.
Write
your
success
stories.
Stop
comparing
yourself
with
others.
Always
be
true
to
yourself.
That
is
the
crucial(关键)
first
step
if
we
are
to
have
good
relationships
with
others.
You
might
then
think
that
it’s
because
you
are
not
smart
enough
or
don’t
have
enough
talents.
You
can
do
something
to
improve
the
relationships
with
others.
Fortunately,
there
are
always
things
you
can
do
to
fix
the
situation.
You
might
be
disappointed
with
yourself
on
why
you
make
such
mistakes.
Sometimes
you
might
not
believe
yourself.
Maybe
you
could
not
accept
the
fact
that
you
are
not
as
lucky
as
others.

The
day
before
Father’s
Day,
Mrs
Berry
asked
her
students
to
make
a
card
for
their
fathers.
She
passed
out
paper
and
pieces
of
cloth.
Elizabeth
looked
for
a
while
at
the
blue
cloth
and
began
to
cut
it.
Then
she
41
her
paper
in
half
and
began
writing.
When
Elizabeth
finally
looked
at
the
message
the
teacher
gave
on
the
paper,
she
noticed
something
else.
She
felt
her
42
grow
hot
---she
hadn’t
heard
that
anyone
who
didn’t
have
a
father
could
make
one
for
a
grandfather
or
an
uncle.
As
her
teacher
walked
to
her,
Elizabeth
tried
43
her
card
with
her
arm,
but
Mrs
Berry
gently
44
it
so
that
she
could
read
it.
Elizabeth
sat
45
,
waiting
for
her
to
say
something,
but
she
saw
a
46
roll
down
Mrs
Berry’s
face.
She
had
never
made
Mrs
Berry
so
upset.
When
school
was
over,
Elizabeth
47
until
all
the
other
kids
left
so
that
she
could
48
.
“I’m
sorry
for
not
listening.
I’ll

another
card
49
you
want.
I’ll
do
it
50
and
bring
it
tomorrow.”
“
51
are
you

asked
Mrs
Berry.
“My
Father’s
Day
card.
I
know
you’re
upset
because
I
didn’t
do
it
52
.”
“Elizabeth,
that
was
the
53
card
in
the
whole
class.
It
was
so
54
that
it
made
me
cry.”
Elizabeth
was
so
55
that
she
ran
out
of
the
classroom.
When
her
mom
came
home
from
work
that
night,
Elizabeth
56
to
give
her
the
card
early.
On
the
front
of
the
card
was
a
57
of
Elizabeth’s
mom,
with
a
blue
piece
of
cloth
cut
like
her
hair.
Inside
the
card
she
had
written:
Dear
Mom,
I
know
you
work
really
hard
to
be
both
a
mommy
and
a(n)
58
.
I
want
to
thank
you
and
59
you
a
happy
Father’s
Day!
Love,
Elizabeth
When
her
mom
read
the
card
she
started
60
,
just
like
Mrs
Berry
did.
A.
folded
B.
