阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题:每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
When
16-year-old
Sergio
Duran
Jr
wants
to
do
his
homework
every
night,
he
leaves
his
family’s
mobile
home
in
the
desert
of
the
Coachella
Valley,
about
130
miles
east
of
Los
Angeles,
California.
He
walks
five
minutes
down
the
dusty
road,
to
a
grove
of
palm
trees,
where
he
finds
a
school
bus
parked
there
by
his
local
school
district.
Plopping
down
on
the
ground
next
to
the
bus,
Duran
pulls
out
an
Apple
iPad
—
also
provided
by
the
school
district
—
and
connects
to
the
wi-fi
that’s
streaming
from
inside
the
bus.
This
is
his
only
reliable
internet
connection.
And
without
this
bus,
getting
his
homework
done
every
day
would
be
a
monumental
task.
Because
even
if
schools
provide
pupils
with
state-of-the-art,
handheld,
connected
technology,
what
good
is
it
if
they
can’t
use
it
at
home
It’s
not
that
Duran
doesn’t
have
internet
access
at
home.
It’s
that
the
service
is
extremely
unreliable.
And
he
is
far
from
alone.
The
Coachella
Valley
Unified
School
District,
where
Duran
lives,
is
one
of
the
poorest
counties
in
the
United
States:
95%
of
the
district
lives
below
the
national
poverty
level.
Many
of
Duran’s
fellow
pupils,
he
says,
live
in
similar
circumstances.
There’s
a
single
Internet
connection
that’s
shared
by
a
whole
slew
of
family
members:
cousins,
uncles
—
some
living
under
the
same
roof,
some
nearby
—
and
neighbors,
too.
It
gets
so
congested
that
it
often
slows
to
a
temporary
stop.
And
those
are
the
times
when
service
is
not
available
at
all.
21.
Where
does
Sergio
Duran
do
his
homework
A.
At
home.
B.
By
the
school
bus.
C.
At
school.
D.
In
Coachella
Valley.
22.
Why
doesn’t
Duran
use
the
internet
at
home
A.
There
is
no
Internet
access.
B.
There
is
no
vacancy
for
him.
C.
He
doesn’t
want
to
stay
at
home.
D.
The
internet
access
isn’t
dependable.
23.
What
does
the
underlined
word
in
the
2nd
paragraph
mean
A.
memorable
B.
meaningful
C.
difficult
D.
impossible
24.
What
does
the
underlined
“It”
in
the
last
paragraph
refer
to
A.
the
house
B.
the
community
C.
the
school
district
D.
the
internet
connection
B
Cultural
practices,
cultural
differences,
local
manners,
and
mores:
you
traveling
the
globe,
everything
from
greeting
to
eating
can
be
an
opportunity
to
do
the
wrong
thing,
which
not
only
embarrass
yourself
but
offend
your
host.
Look
out
and
try
to
avoid
mistakes
while
going
abroad.
Removing
Your
Shoes…or
Not:
Take
off
your
shoes
when
arriving
at
the
door
of
a
London
dinner
party
and
the
hostess
will
find
you
uncivilized,
but
fail
to
remove
your
shoes
before
entering
a
home
in
Asia
and
you'll
be
considered
disrespectful.
Not
only
does
shoe
removal
very
practically
keeps
sand
and
dirt
out
of
the
house,
it's
a
sign
of
leaving
the
outside
world
behind.
If
you
see
a
row
of
shoes
at
the
door,
start
undoing
your
laces.
If
not,
keep
the
shoes
on.
Knowing
Your
Right
from
Your
Left:
Many
cultures
still
prefer
to
eat
using
traditional
methods--their
hands.
In
these
cases,
food
is
often
offered
communally,
which
is
why
it's
important
to
wash
your
hands
before
eating
and
observe
the
right-hand-is-for-eating
rule.
And
when
share
a
bowl,
stick
to
a
portion
that's
closest
to
you.
Left-handed
Attempt
to
change
-
even
children
who
are
left-handed
are
taught
to
eat
with
their
right
hand--or
at
least
explain
yourself
to
your
fellow
diners
before
plunging
in.
Once
you
are
on
the
ground
of
a
different
country,
remain
highly
sensitive
to
native
behavior.
Never
be
completely
surprised
by
anything;
try
to
take
it
in
stride,
and
don't
feel
offended
if
something
seems
offensive.
After
all,
this
is
a
global
village,
and
we
are
all
very
different.
25.
Where
is
the
passage
most
likely
to
be
found
A.
In
a
text
book.
B.
In
a
shopping
website.
C.
In
a
daily
newspaper.
D.
In
a
travelling
magazine.
26.
According
to
the
passage,
before
you
remove
your
shoes,
you
should
________.
A.
ask
the
host
for
advice
B.
remove
it
at
once
C.
learn
from
other
guest
D.
not
remove
all
the
time.
27.
What
does
the
underlined
sentence
in
the
last
paragraph
mean
A.
Do
as
Romans
do.
B.
Learn
to
accept
as
it
is.
C.
Behave
ourselves.
D.
Learn
to
protect
ourselves.

What
is
the
writers
attitude
to
cultural
differences
A.
Offensive
B.

TONY
Buzan’s
grades
were
going
down
at
university.
Frustrated,
he
went
to
the
library.
He
was
directed
to
the
medical
section.
Confused,
he
said
to
the
woman
librarian,
“I
don’t
want
to
take
my
brain
out.”
Her
reply
was
simple:
“There’s
no
book
on
that.”
“I
thought
to
myself,”
says
Buzan,
“if
I
buy
a
little
radio,
I
get
an
instruction
manual.
But
for
the
most
important
machine
in
the
world,
no
instruction
manual ”
In
the
late
1960s,
he
invented
the
mind
map,
a
visual
representation
of
thought
processes.
“I
think
in
most
cases,
people
use
less
than
1
percent
of
their
brains,”
he
says.
But
how
do
you
expand
this
1
percent
According
to
Buzan,
you
take
a
section
of
whatever
it
is
that
you
are
trying
to
learn
and
you
read
it
for
its
main
parts.
Then
you
make
a
mind
map
of
all
the
crucial
details.
For
a
truly
effective
mind
map,
you
start
with
a
colored
image
in
the
center
of
your
page
and
draw
branches
out
accordingly.
He
emphasizes
that
you
should
use
plenty
of
images
and
colors
as
these
help
with
memory
recall
and
encourage
creativity.
By
using
this
visual
form,
your
mind
will
begin
to
make
associations
that
will
help
you
remember
more
information
for
longer
periods
of
time.
Traditional
note-taking
methods,
such
as
lists
and
summaries,
do
not
stimulate
the
brain’s
recall
capacity
in
the
same
way.
Because
of
this,
students
will
often
find
themselves
locked
away
in
their
rooms
for
hours,
trying
hard
to
memorize
individual
details.
Buzan
believes
that
for
a
more
effective
and
lasting
way
of
studying,
you
must
first
understand
how
brain
works.
“Everyone
is
born
smart,”
he
says.
“You
just
have
to
learn
how
to
learn.”

Once
upon
a
time,
there
was
a
wise
man
who
used
to
go
to
the
ocean
to
do
his
writing.
He
had
a
41
of
walking
on
the
beach
before
his
work.
One
day
when
he
was
42
along
the
shore,
he
saw
a
human
43
moving
like
a
dancer
in
the
distance.
So
he
began
to
walk
faster
to
44
up.
As
he
got
closer,
he
saw
that
it
was
a
young
man
and
the
young
man
wasn’t
dancing,
but
45
he
was
reaching
down
to
the
sand,
picking
things
up
and
very
46
throwing
them
into
the
ocean.
As
the
wise
man
got
closer
he
47
,
“Good
morning!
What
are
you
doing ”
The
young
man
48
,
looked
up
and
replied,
“Throwing
starfish
into
the
ocean.”
“I
guess
I
49
have
asked,
why
are
you
throwing
starfish
into
the
ocean ”
“The
sun
is
50
,
and
the
tide
is
going
out,
and
if
I
don’t
throw
them
in,
they
will
51
.”
“But,
young
man,
don’t
you
52
that
there
are
miles
and
miles
of
beach,
and
starfish
all
along
it
You
can’t
possibly
make
a
53
!”
The
young
man
listened
politely,
and
then
he
bent
down,
picked
up
54
starfish,
threw
it
into
the
ocean,
saying,
“It
does
make
a
difference
to
that
one.”
There
is
55
very
special
in
each
and
every
one
of
us.
We
have
all
been
56
with
the
ability
to
make
a
difference.
And
57
we
recognize
that
gift,
through
the
strength
of
our
vision,
then
we
get
the
power
to
58
the
future.
We
must
find
our
59
.
And
if
we
throw
ours
wisely
and
well,
the
60
will
be
better.

书面表达:
Dear
Sir,
I
am
Li
Hua,
a
senior
3
student
in
your
school.
I’m
writing
to
tell
you
about
a
problem.
Nowadays,
a
great
many
students
stay
in
the
classroom
to
study
at
noon.
According
to
me,
it
is
very
important
to
have
a
rest
at
noon,
during
which
we
can
do
something
to
get
rid
of
tiredness.
Otherwise
students
will
feel
exhausted
both
physically
and
mentally.
So
relaxation
in
that
period
is
really
beneficial.
As
far
as
I’m
concerned,
there
are
methods
to
study
effectively,
the
first
of
which
is
that
we
should
combine
our
study
with
amusement.
Meanwhile,
doing
some
sports
is
also
of
great
use.
As
an
old
saying
goes,
“All
work
and
no
play
makes
Jack
a
dull
boy.”
Only
when
we
study
scientifically
can
we
study
effectively.
Yours
sincerely,
Li
