第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Have you seen Jurassic Park? In this film, scientists use DNA kept for tens of millions of years to clone dinosaurs. They find trouble, however, when they realize that the cloned creatures are smarter and more dangerous than expected. That’s nothing more than a fiction.
But could we really clone endangered animals? To date, the most successful attempt to do so was the cloning of a gaur, a rare ox-like animal from southeast Asia. Scientists used a cow to bring the cloned baby gaur, named Noah. Two days after birth, however, Noah died from a common bacterial infection. Other endangered species that may be cloned include the African bongo antelope (邦戈羚羊), the Sumatran tiger, the cheetah (猎豹), and the giant panda.
Next, could we really clone extinct animals?
In theory? Yes. To do this, you need a well-kept source of DNA from the extinct animals such as wool mammoth (毛象), Tasmanian tiger, or even dinosaur, and a closely related species, still living, which could serve as a surrogate mother.
In reality? Probably not. On the one hand, it’s not likely that extinct animals’ DNA could survive undamaged for such a long time. Cloning extinct animals as wool mammoth, Tasmanian tiger, or dinosaur is much more difficult due to the lack of properly well-preserved DNA. On the other hand, for example, a gaur can have a cow as a surrogate mother, definitely not a monkey. But what about an extinct animals as unique as the panda? What species could possibly serve as a surrogate mother? Cloning presents many exciting possibilities. However, even if extinct animals are brought back, they could not survive in today’s world. Not only do most extinct animals have no habitat to love in, but the other plants and animals they depended on for food may also be gone as well.
56. It can be learned from the text that ________.
A. scientists have cloned the African bongo antelope
B. both the cheetah and the giant panda live in Asia
C. the gaur lives in Asia and is endangered
D. the gaur is an extinct species
57. The underlined words “a surrogate mother” probably refer to a female who ______.
A. contributes its eggs to another female B. gives birth to a baby for another female
C. gives birth to a baby of its own D. cannot give birth to a baby
58. The difficulty in cloning an extinct species is the lack of ______.
A. both the well-preserved DNA and plants to live on
B. both the habitat to live in and the well-preserved DNA
C. both habitat to live in and plants to live on
D. both the well-preserved DNA and a surrogate mother
59. In the author’s opinion, it is possible that ______.
A. some extinct species may be cloned, but not survive
B. extinct species may be cloned and easily survive
C. a gaur can have a monkey as a surrogate mother
D. all the extinct species may be cloned
60. The cloned extinct animals could not survive because_____
A. they could not survive in today’s world
B. they might die of some serious illness
C. scientists didn’t grasp the cloning skills
D. they had no habitat or other creatures to depend on

???? The Japanese Ministry of Education,Culture,Sports,Science and Technology recently released a draft revision of curriculum guidelines for high school, stating that English classes will be taught primarily in English, the Japan Times has reported.
Under the draft guidelines,English teaching will focus more on speaking and listening, aiming at moving away from grammar and translation oriented teaching methods. The number of English words to be taught in high school will be increased to 1800 from the current 1300,bringing the total vocabulary learned in high school and junior high school to 3000 words. The words will provide students with a vocabulary needed to communicate with people abroad and the level of the vocabulary will match that taught in China and South Korea.
???? The draft guidelines demand that English classes should be used as a place for real English communication, indicating for the first time a policy of teaching high school English classes in English. The ministry explained that “teachers should first display an attitude of actively using English themselves” in order to boost English conversation ability. Complicated explanations such as those about grammar may still be provided in Japanese.
???? However, concerns have been raised over large differences in both teachers' English ability and students' level of understanding. “This could embarrass particularly older teachers who know grammar well but are not very good at conversation,”one teacher said. “To tell the truth,I'm not confident enough to do everything in English. Will we be allowed to undertake training?”another asked. Educators are also worried that students who feel they aren't good at English may turn away from the subject.
???? The ministry will accept opinions from the public on the changes before finalizing the new guidelines for announcement by next March. The new guidelines are expected to take effect for students entering high school in the academic year starting in April, 2013.

A new generation addiction is quickly spreading all over the world. Weboholism, a twentieth century disease, affects people from different ages. They surf the net, use e-mail and speak in chat rooms. They spend many hours on the computer, and it becomes a compulsive habit. They cannot stop, and it affects their lives.
Ten years ago, no one thought that using computers could become compulsive behavior that could affect the social and physical life of computer users. This obsessional behavior has affected teenagers and college students. They are likely to log on computers and spend long hours at different websites.
They become hooked on computers and gradually their social and school life is affected by this situation. They spend all free time surfing and don't concentrate on homework, so this addiction influences their grades and success at school. Because they can find everything on the websites, they hang out there. Moreover, this addiction to websites influences their social life.
They spend more time in front of computers than with their friends. The relation with their friends changes. The virtual life becomes more important than their real life. They have a new language that they speak in the chat rooms and it causes cultural changes in society.
Because of the change in their behavior, they begin to isolate themselves from the society and live with their virtual friends. Have you experienced the 2009's Oscar best movie called Slumdog Millionaire(《贫民富翁》)?
This film is about a poor Indian boy from the slums (贫民窟), Jamal, who ends up winning the grand prize in a show—“Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”.The night before he answers the prize-winning questions, Jamal is arrested by the police and hurt severely. They don't believe a slumdog like Jamal can answer seven questions correctly and possibly win 20 million rupees. But, as the movie unfolds, Jamal let out the secret how he found the answers to each of the questions. Viewers also learn about Jamal's childhood, his selfish older brother Salim, and his childhood love, Latika.
The movie's point, however, is not just to tell a typical story of an underdog (弱者) who becomes a hero. The director also uses Slum-Dog Millionaire to give viewers a taste of India. The movie begins in Jamal's childhood home in the slums of India. The place where he and his family lived reminds one of the hutong that used to make up a large part of old Beijing. Jamal and his brother grow and travel across India, meanwhile surviving as slum-dogs and cheaters, and India ages with them. By the time Jamal is 17 or 18, his old home has been replaced by a giant financial center. Jamal and Salim take a moment to recall about their old lives, as they stand high up in a tall building that is still under construction. That view from above reminded me of a similar view I had just two years ago in China: I was standing there in the living room of a family friend's modern apartment, looking out through a window, down to some shacks (简陋的房屋) below, just next to the building complex. It was amazing how riches and poverty could live so close together.
The thing that was most appealing about the movie, to me and my Indian friends, was how we could understand the story presented in the movie. More important than the story was the window on the social and economic situations in Asia that it provided.
71. Which of the following is TRUE about the movie?
A.Jamal finally won a big prize after struggling hard to earn an honest living.
B.Suspected of cheating, Jamal was arrested by the police before winning the prize.
C.With tall buildings being built up everywhere, slums in India have disappeared.
D.Jamal remained in his childhood home in the slums before he was 17 or 18.
72. Viewers can learn from the movie EXCEPT ________.
A.Jamal's childhood and his bitter experience of wandering across the country
B.the rapid social changes and economic development in India
C.the poor life of people in the slums against the development of cities in India
D.the secret of becoming a millionaire through personal struggle
73. Why does the movie appeal to the writer?
A.It's a typical story of the underdog who becomes a hero, which she admires most.
B.It's an Oscar best movie that helps her understand the human nature.
C.It has an exciting and complicated plot that attracts her very much.
D.It reminds her of her experience in China and helps her know about Asian countries like India.
74. The writer wrote the passage to________.
A.introduce a movie to readers and share her views about it
B.persuade more viewers to go to the cinema to see the movie
C.express her enthusiasm towards Asia and its culture
D.reveal the true social reality in most developing countries
75. What can we infer from the passage?
A.The writer is now studying in a school in China.
B.The movie is only welcomed by Americans who have Indian friends.
C.The long distance between the rich and the poor in developing countries surprises the writer.
D.Enjoying the movie, we'll learn more than a typical story of an underdog who becomes a hero.

??? Self-confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your brains. Your feeling of yourself has an enormous impact on what others think of you. The more self-confidence you have, the more likely it is that you’ll succeed.
?????? Although many of the factors affecting self-confidence are beyond your control, there are a number of things you can consciously do to build self-confidence.
?????? Although clothes don’t make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and have an effect on other people. Use this to your advantage by taking care of personal appearance. In most cases, important improvements can be made by bathing and shaving frequently, wearing clean clothes, and knowing the information of the latest styles.
?????? One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about himself/herself is to examine his/her walk. Is it slow?Tired? Painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self-confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make you look and feel more important.
?????? Similarly, the way a person carries himself/herself tells a story. People with lethargic(无精打采的) movements display a lack of self-confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they are doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By practicing good gesture, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more sure of your ability.

Different Job Outlooks
Nowadays university graduates have different job outlooks. For most of them, to find a job with satisfactory pay is their most important wish while majority want to be self – employed. However, a certain number of graduates are not in a hurry to hunt for jobs. They are just waiting for better chances. Toward this point of view, some experts warn that it is not wise to be just waiting. They advise that graduates should find a regular, full-time job as quickly as possible so that they can earn money to support themselves and get working experience, which will help to find a better position later. Moreover, it might be more difficult to find a satisfactory job with more and more graduates next year.
