About low-carbon life
A youthful group calls itself the “Low-Carbon Tribe” (tribe: a group of people with the same belief). They are leading the way to an eco-friendly/ environmental-friendly lifestyle.
Tribe members, who range in age from 20 to 40, say they are trying to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in a relaxed and fashionable way. They think helping save the planet is part of their daily life.
Supermodel Jiang Peilin said she has been wearing cotton for a long time, because it is healthy and eco-friendly. She never drinks bottled water, because plastic harms the environment. “We should advocate and pursue a low-carbon life, which is in vogue/ fashionable. Anyone can get involved/ take part in….” she said.
Li zhiyong, a 37-year-old office worker in Beijing, said firstly we should recognize that low-carbon life is not only a kind of lifestyle but also a life attitude. He often takes the subway to work, even though he bought a car in 2008. He seldom uses her air-conditioner at home and in the office turns it down a couple of degrees to save energy.
Some tribe members balance their carbon dioxide emissions by planting trees. Actress Zhou Xun said she spent 6,000 yuan buying and planting 238 trees in Beijing at the beginning of this year. She said it was to offset the amount of carbon dioxide she emitted the year before.
Professor Chen Jiancheng, at Beijing Forestry University, said the Low-Carbon Tribe proves more Chinese are concerned about environmental protection, care about society and try to influence people around us.
Following the lead of government-sponsored environmental groups, many websites offer netizens tips on how to be a Low-Carbon Tribe member. It offers carbon-saving advice such as washing clothes by hand, eating less meat and climbing stairs instead of using elevators.
Each of us is responsible for the greenhouse gases we emit in our daily actions. Therefore, combating climate change is going to take the combined efforts of everyone on the planet.
The high-consumption and high-pollution life style is becoming the killer of the earth and human beings.
Try not to use throwaway/ disposable chopsticks, paper cups and containers.
Make sure you keep items such as paper and plastic bottles separate so that they can be recycled.
We should develop good habits in our daily lives.
The small activities can create big changes in society.
“Going green” doesn’t have to be a difficult task that means making big changes in life. Simple things can make a difference.
