B
Like
anyone
who
lives
in
a
major
city.
Doniece
Sandoval,
a
successful
businessperson,
sees
homeless
people
everywhere.
Two
years
ago,
when
Sandoval,
then
51,happened
upon
a
young
woman
crying
uncontrollably
under
an
overpass
at
the
San
Francisco
Design
Center,she
stopped
to
listen.
The
woman
said
sadly
“I’ll
never
be
clean.”
Sandoval
realized
how
hard
it
is
for
homeless
people
to
clean
their
own
bodies.
Sandoval
could
have
stopped
there.
She
could
have
written
letters
to
nonprofits(非赢利性组织),
or
to
City
Hall,
asking
someone
else
to
set
up
more
public
showers.
Instead,
she
started
Lava
Mae
(Spanish
for“wash
me”).
It
is
a
nonprofit
with
a
new
idea:
Take
old,
unused
city
buses
and
retrofit(翻新)them
with
fully
functioning
showers
for
homeless
people
who
can
use
them
for
nothing.
By
early
next
year,
the
organization's
first
retrofitted
bus
will
be
taken
to
the
streets
of
San
Francisco.
“The
design
of
our
buses
was
based
on
discussions
with
homeless
people,”
Sandoval
said.
For
example,
many
homeless
women
expressed
concern
for
their
safety
and
privacy
while
showering.
As
a
result,
Sandoval
and
her
team
designed
two
separate
bathrooms
in
each
bus,
one
of
which
is
for
persons
with
disabilities.
Each
room
includes
not
only
a
shower,
but
also
a
toilet,
a
sink,
and
a
space
to
store
one’s
things.
Each
bus
will
permit
around
30
people
to
shower
on
a
given
day.
Once
all
the
buses
are
running,
they
will
be
able
to
provide
more
than
2,000
showers
per
week.
This
is
not
a
campaign
to
"end
homelessness",
Sandoval
pointed
out.
Some
10
to
15
percent
of
the
homeless
population
is
chronically(长期地)so,
and
a
shower
won’t
change
that.
What
a
shower
will
do,
though,
is
enable
some
of
them
who
have
lost
their
dignity(尊严)to
retrieve
a
bit
of
it,
even
if
only
for
a
few
minutes
or
the
few
hours
that
cleanliness
lasts.

Carrots
are
grown
on
farms
and
in
family
gardens
throughout
the
world.
Carrots
are
easy
to
raise
and
easy
to
harvest.
They
taste
good.
When
people
think
of
carrots,
they
usually
picture
in
their
mind
a
vegetable
that
is
long,
thin
and
orange
in
color.
But
carrots
come
in
many
different
sizes
and
shapes.
And
not
all
carrots
are
orange.
For
the
best
results,
carrots
should
be
grown
in
sandy
soil
that
does
not
hold
water
for
a
long
time.
The
soil
also
should
have
no
rocks.
To
prepare
your
carrot
garden,
dig
up
the
soil,
loosen
it
and
turn
it
over.
Then,
mix
in
some
plant
material
or
animal
fertilizer.
Weather,
soil
conditions
and
age
will
affect
the
way
carrots
taste.
Experts
say
warm
days,
cool
nights
and
a
medium
soil
temperature
are
the
best
conditions
for
growing
carrots
that
taste
great.
Carrots
need
time
to
develop
their
full
sugar
content.
This
gives
them
their
taste.
If
they
are
harvested
too
early,
they
will
not
have
enough
sugar.
But
carrots
loose
their
sweetness
if
you
wait
too
long
to
remove
them
from
the
ground.
The
best
way
to
judge
if
a
carrot
is
ready
to
be
harvested
is
by
its
color.
Usually,
the
brighter
the
color,
the
better
the
taste.
Carrots
are
prepared
and
eaten
many
different
ways.
They
are
cut
in
thin
pieces
and
added
to
other
vegetables.
They
are
cooked
by
themselves
or
added
to
stews.
Or,
once
they
are
washed,
they
are
eaten
just
as
they
come
out
of
the
ground.
32.
The
reason
why
people
harvest
carrots
at
proper
time
is
probably
that
_____________.
A.
people
sometimes
are
very
busy.
B.
carrots
have
different
kinds.
C.
it
takes
a
time
for
carrots
to
keep
sugar.
D.
weather
always
changes.
33.
What
actions
is
not
likely
to
be
needed
in
planting
Carrots
A.
Dig
up
the
soil.
B.
Choose
muddy
land.
C.
Make
the
earth
become
loose.
D.
Mix
plant
material
or
animal
fertilizer.
34.
Why
are
the
carrots
grown
in
sandy
soil
A.
They
always
need
much
water.
B.
It
doesn’t
need
to
keep
water
so
long.
C.
Anyone
who
is
interested
can
join
in
it
D.
People
get
along
well
with
each
other
in
it.
35.
What
is
the
writer’s
opinion
about
carrots

A.
They
are
easy
to
raise
but
hard
to
harvest.
B.
All
carrots
are
not
orange.
C.
Only
one
factor
affects
the
way
carrots
taste.
D.
It
is
only
by
color
that
you
can
decide
if
you
harvest
them.
第二节
(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
It
is
natural
that
young
people
are
often
uncomfortable
when
they
are
with
their
parents.
36
They
often
think
that
their
parents
are
out
of
touch
with
modern
ways,
that
they
are
too
serious
and
too
strict
with
their
children,
and
that
they
seldom
give
their
children
a
free
hand.
It
is
true
that
parents
often
find
it
difficult
to
win
their
children's
trust
and
they
always
forget
how
they
themselves
felt
when
young.
37
It
is
one
of
their
ways
to
show
that
they
have
grown
up
and
they
can
face
any
difficult
situation.
Adults
worry
more
easily.
Most
of
them
plan
things
ahead.
Young
people
make
their
parents
angry
with
their
choices
in
clothes,
in
entertainment
and
in
music.
But
they
do
not
mean
to
cause
any
trouble:
It
is
just
that
they
feel
cut
off
from
the
adult's
world,
and
they
have
not
yet
been
accepted
into
their
world.
38
And
if
their
parents
do
not
like
their
music
or
entertainment
or
clothes
or
their
way
of
speech,
this
will
make
the
young
people
very
happy.
Sometimes
you
are
so
proud
of
yourself
that
you
do
not
want
your
parents
to
say
“yes”
to
what
you
do.
39
It
is
natural
enough,
after
being
a
child
for
so
many
years,
when
you
were
completely
under
your
parents'
control.
40
If
your
parents
see
that
you
have
a
high
sense
of
responsibility,
they
will
give
you
the
right
to
do
what
you
want

第一节
完形填空(共20小题;每题1.5分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
Our
family
is
at
the
beach
for
the
week.
We're
on
the
Gulf
side
of
Florida,
and
the
water
is
blue
and
clear.
My
view
from
under
the
beach
umbrella
looks
Like
41
from
a
postcard.
The
best
part
of
the
view,
though,
is
42
those
sweet
little
ones
jumping
in
the
waves
and
building
castles
in
the
sand.
All
my
grandchildren
love
playing
in
the
43
,
except
two-year-old
Nolan.
On
the
first
day,
he
only
played
in
the
sand.
But
I
didn’t
think
it
was
his
44
.
Just
imagine
how
45
the
ocean
looks
to
a
little
child.
Alter
several
hours.
1
said.
"Nolan.
do
you
want
to
walk
on
the
sand
Let’
s
46
if
the
water
can
catch
your
toes(脚趾) ”
He
put
his
little
hand
in
mine.
To
make
him
less
47
,
we
walked
far
enough
from
the
edge
of
the
water,
but
48
enough
so
that
when
the
waves
broke
he'd
feel
a
little
bit
of
the
water
on
his
toes.
He
49
that
and
then
I
said,
"Do
you
want
to
take
two
steps
closer
to
the
water
50
we
can
get
more
water
on
our
toes ”
He
51
,
and
we
inched
forward.
Several
minutes
later,
he
said,
"Grandma,
52
.
Let's
take
two
more
steps."
In
a
while,we
were
53
in
the
water.
The
waves
were
54
and
splashing(飞溅)
against
his
body.
The
next
day,
I
watched
him
playing
in
the
water
with
his
daddy,
looking
even
55
as
a
big
wave
hit.
Tears
came
to
my
eyes.
There
have
been
many
times
when
I’ve
been
afraid
as
the
56
of
life
cashed
into
me.
Hovering
(彷徨)in
fear,
I
didn’t
57
to
face
them
and
beat
them.
Seeing
Nolan
made
me
58
that
if
we
are
brave
enough
to
take
the
first
few
steps,
we
can
see
that
the
thing
we
at
first
59
is
really
nothing.
What
seems
most
60
is
to
take
the
first
few
steps.
