3.D smell
4.A beyond意为“在…… 21·cn·jy·com
14.D take a trip、make a trip意为“旅行,外出”,start a trip意为“开始旅行”,因为文章开头明确说明作者和家人是在去往加利福尼亚的trip中停下来吃午饭,所以再次上路,应该选D“继续”。
16.D notice

A
One afternoon, in Paris, I took a trip to an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view(看) of some great paintings of excellent artists.
A young couple looking at the paintings in front of me were talking non-stop. I watched them a moment and decided she was doing all the talking. In fact, I was surprised at this man for putting up with her everlasting speech. Bored by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved through those rooms of art. Each time I heard her voice, I moved away at once.
I was standing at the museum gift shop buying some cards when the couple walked to the exit(出口).
“He's a brave man,” said the shop assistant. “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. But he and his wife come in whenever there's a new art show.”
It explained the non-stop talk! A sudden sense of shame came to my heart for what I was thinking just now. “But what does he get out of the art?” I asked.
“His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head.”
At that moment I realized what is patience, courage and love. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person who can't see and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness change his love towards art. And I felt the love shared by the two as I watched them walking away holding each other's hands.2-1-c-n-j-y

Working with a group of baboons (狒狒) in the Namibian desert,Dr.Alecia Carter of the Department of Zoology,Cambridge University set baboons learning tasks involving a novel food and a familiar food, hidden in a box. Some baboons were given the chance to watch another baboon who already knew how to solve the task, while others had to learn for themselves. To work out how brave or anxious the baboons were,Dr.Carter presented them either with a novel food or a threat in the form of a model of a poisonous snake.21教育网
She found that personality had a major impact on learning. The braver baboons learnt, but the shy ones did not learn the task although they watched the baboon perform the task of finding the novel food just as long as the brave ones did.In effect, despite being made aware of what to do,they were still too shy to do what the experienced baboon did.【出处:21教育名师】
The same held true for anxious baboons compared with calm ones. The anxious individuals learnt the task by observing others while those who were relaxed did not, even though they spent more time watching.21教育名师原创作品
This mismatch between collecting social information and using it shows that personality plays a key role in social learning in animals, something that has previously been ignored in studies on how animals learn to do things. The findings are significant because they suggest that animals may perform poorly in cognitive (认知的) tasks not because they aren't clever enough to solve them, but because they are too shy or nervous to use the social information.
The findings may impact how we understand the formation of culture in societies through social learning. If some individuals are unable to get information from others because they don't associate with the knowledgeable individuals,or they are too shy to use the information once they have it,information may not travel between all group members, preventing the formation of a culture based on social learning.21*cnjy*com
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.The design of Dr.Carter's research.
B.The results of Dr.Carter's research.
C.The purpose of Dr.Carter's research.
D.The significance of Dr.Carter's research.
2.According to the research, which baboons are more likely to complete a new learning task?
A.Those that have more experience.
B.Those that can avoid potential risks.
C.Those that like to work independently.
D.Those that feel anxious about learning.
3.Which best illustrates the “mismatch” mentioned in Paragraph 4?2·1·c·n·j·y
A.Some baboons are intelligent but slow in learning.
B.Some baboons are shy but active in social activities.
C.Some baboons observe others but don't follow them.
D.Some baboons perform new tasks but don't concentrate.
4.Dr.Carter's findings indicate that our culture might be formed through ________.
A.storing information
B.learning from each other
C.understanding different people
D.travelling between social groups
The braver baboons learnt, but the shy ones did not learn... The anxious individuals learnt...while those who were relaxed did not...
The findings may impact how we understand the formation of culture in societies through social learning.

Selena Gomez and I are scheduled to meet at a low-key coffee shop in Encino. Not wanting to keep the superstar waiting, I arrived at nine, 20 minutes early. As I was catching up on e-mails, Selena quietly scooted into the seat next to me. No bodyguard. Not even a drop of makeup. She was ten minutes early and so inconspicuous that no one else in the restaurant looked up so much. Selena was wearing Bebe shorts. She had a baby face and ordered a hot chocolate.
After making small talk about what she wore for the shoot, she dived into the subject of her career. Selena declared 2012 the year of movies. She filmed three: Spring Breakers, a drama; The Getaway, an action flick; and Hotel Transylvania, a comedy. Each is a marked move away from the teen style that made her a household name.
Now that her Disney days are behind her, Selena is at that unstable point in a child star's career where she is trying to grow up—both as a person(she turned 20 in July)and as an artist. “Being part of the Disney Channel was such a blessing, and I'm super happy with what my show accomplished, but acting is something I would like to take on more seriously.” She continued, “I don't necessarily feel accomplished. I want to creat a whole different persona when it comes to acting.”
Selena has been working fulltime since she was seven years old and scored a role on Barney&Friends. In 2007, when she was offered the lead in Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena, her mother, and her stepfather uprooted from Grand Prairie, Texas, to LA, where they are settling now.

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks throughout the world today. In fact, according to some estimates, over 30% of all adults in the world drink coffee at least once a day on the average. Coffee contains a kind of drug called caffeine. Caffeine is a chemical that stimulates (刺激) the nerves of the body. Drinking coffee tends to make people a little bit more awake―at least for a short time―because of this stimulating effect on the nervous system. A cup of coffee has, on the average, about 3% caffeine in it.【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】
One story of the discovery of the coffee plant relates to this effect of caffeine. According to the story, coffee was discovered in East Africa. The story says that coffee was first found by a goat farmer named Kaldi. This was about the year 850. Kaldi was leading his animals through the mountains and the goats were stopping repeatedly to eat the plants near the path. Suddenly, some of the goats started jumping up and down in a very strange way. Kaldi figured out that the goats were acting this way because of the plants they were eating. Kaldi himself tried eating some of the green beans (豆荚) that the goats had been eating. He, too, felt the stimulating effect of the beans. Kaldi wanted to prove what had happened, so he picked some of the beans and took them back to the village, where he told his story.
The green bean got the name "Kaffa" and later "coffee" because the beans were discovered in a place called Kaffa in Africa. Then for years, people used to eat a few of the green Kaffa beans when they were in the mountains and needed extra energy to do their work. It was later found that the coffee beans could be picked and then dried until they turned brown, and then they could be stored. If the beans were dried and stored, they could be used at any time.
1.What is the purpose of drinking coffee?
A. To become more awake. B. To become more healthy.
C. To become more happy. D. To become more clever.
2.How did the goats react after eating the plants?
A. They fell asleep. B. They could not find their way home.

JeanFrancois Millet (October 4, 1814-January 20,1875) was a French painter who was famous for his scenes of farmers.
After his first painting, a portrait (肖像), was accepted at the Salon of 1840, Millet returned to Cherbourg to begin a career as a portrait painter. However, the following year he married PaulineVirginie Ono, and they moved to Paris. After being refused at the Salon of 1843 and Pauline's death, Millet returned again to Cherbourg. In 1845 Millet moved to Le Harvre where he painted portraits for several months, before moving back to Paris. It was in Paris in the middle 1840s that Millet made friends with many famous artists who had great influences on him. Then he gradually revolutionized his painting style and created his own one.
This is the most well known of Millet's paintings, The Gleaners (《拾穗者》), in which poor women and children are removing the bits of grain left in the fields following the harvest. A warm golden light suggests something holy(神圣的) in this daily scene where the struggle to survive takes place. During his years of studies, Millet thought about how to best tell the sense of repetition and tiredness in the peasants' daily lives. Lines traced over each woman's back to the ground and then back up again and again, which means their hard labor. Along the horizon(地平线), the setting sun outlines the farm with its plentiful stacks of grain, in contrast to the large shadowy figures in the foreground(前台). The dark dresses of the gleaners cut strong forms against the golden field, giving each woman a noble strength.
In 1857, he presented the painting The Gleaners to the Salon to an unfriendly public.
