第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

A
When
was
the
last
time
someone
did
something
unexpectedly
nice
for
you?Not
someone
you
knew,
but
a
total
stranger?It's
happened
to
me
a
few
times,
but
two
instances
really
stand
out.
A
few
years
ago,
I
was
dining
out
with
a
person
who
kept
going
on
and
on
about
himself,
completely
unaware
of
the
fact
that
I
was
sitting
there
in
misery
(痛苦).
It
wasn't
his
company
that
disappointed
me.
I
was
recovering
from
a
bad
grade
in
my
study.
I
could
have
collapsed
(崩溃)
in
tears
right
there
at
the
table.
When
we
picked
up
the
check,
the
waitress
said,
“Your
meal
was
already
paid
for.”
My
friend
and
I
didn't
have
a
clue
how
it
happened.
Then
I
remembered
a
man
coming
in
out
of
the
corner
of
my
eye.
He
was
dressed
in
mostly
white,
sat
down
at
the
bar,
had
a
glass
of
wine,
stayed
for
maybe
ten
minutes,
and
then
left.
The
waitress
said,
“Yes,
the
gentleman
who
was
in
here
a
while
ago
paid
for
you.”
Just
last
year,
I
was
running
a
half marathon.
With
just
0.1
miles
to
go,
I
was
out
of
gas.
Runners
call
it
“hitting
the
wall”;
I
thought
I
couldn't
move
another
muscle.
Out
of
nowhere,
a
teenager
jogs
up
next
to
me
and
says,
“What's
your
name,
sweetie?Jennifer
Okay,
Jennifer,
let's
go!
Come
on!
It's
just
around
the
corner!
You
can
do
it!”
And
he
ran
with
me
until
I
picked
up
my
pace.
I
found
him
at
the
finish
line
to
thank
him
for
the
encouragement
only
to
learn
he
wasn't
even
supposed
to
be
in
the
race
that
day.
He
was
running
in
place
of
someone
else.
I
still
shake
my
head
when
I
think
of
these
momentary
angels
that
came
to
me
at
my
point
of
need.

The
Royal
Horticulture
Society
(RHS)
finds
that
women
gardeners'
voices
speed
up
the
growth
of
tomato
plants
much
more
than
men's.
In
an
experiment,
the
research
found
that
tomato
plants
grew
up
to
two
inches
taller
if
they
were
sung
to
by
a
female
rather
than
a
male.
The
most
effective
voice
came
from
Sarah
Darwin,
whose
great great
grandfather
was
the
botanist
(植物学家),
Charles
Darwin,
one
of
the
founding
fathers
of
the
RHS.
She
read
a
passage
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
and
beat
nine
other
“voices”.
Her
plant
grew
nearly
two
inches
taller
than
the
best
performing
male
and
half
an
inch
taller
than
her
nearest
competitor.
Colin
Crosbie,
Garden
Manager
at
the
RHS,
said,
“We
just
don't
know
why.
It
could
be
because
they
have
a
greater
range
of
pitch
(音高)
and
tone
(音色)
that
affects
the
sound
waves
that
hit
the
plant.
Sound
waves
are
an
environmental
effect
just
like
rain
or
light.”
In
the
experiment,
every
plant
was
played
a
different
voice,
and
the
environmental
conditions
for
all
the
plants
remained
the
same
throughout
the
experiment.
To
prove
the
results
of
the
experiment,
two
plants
were
also
left
to
grow
in
silence.
The
results
showed
that
women's
plants
rose
by
an
inch
more
than
men's
and
much
more
than
the
plants
left
in
complete
silence.
Miss
Darwin
said,
“I'm
not
sure
if
it's
my
sweet
tones
or
the
text
that
I
read
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
that
made
the
plants
listen,
but
either
way,
I
think
it
is
an
honor
to
have
such
a
voice,
and
especially
fitting
for
me,
because
for
years
I
have
been
studying
wild
tomatoes
at
the
Natural
History
Museum

Elephants
have
four
distinct
personalities
that
help
their
hard
survive
in
the
African
bush,
scientists
have
found.
With
their
grey
skin,
mournful
eyes
and
slow
plodding
gait,
you
could
be
forgiven
for
thinking
elephants
are
uniformly
melancholy
(忧郁的)
creatures.
But
scientists
have
now
discovered
the
largest
living
land
animals
have
personalities
to
match
their
size.
In
a
new
study
of
African
elephants,
researchers
have
identified
four
distinct
characters
that
are
prevalent
with
a
herd
—
the
leaders,
the
gentle
giants,
the
playful
rogues
and
the
reliable
plodders
(辛勤工作的人).
Each
of
the
types
has
developed
to
help
the
giant
mammals
survive
in
their
harsh
environment
and
are
almost
unique
in
the
animal
kingdom,
according
to
the
scientists.
Professor
Lee
and
her
colleague
Cynthia
Moss
studied
a
herd
of
elephants
in
the
Amboseli
National
Park
in
Kenya
known
as
the
EB
family
—
famous
for
their
matriarch
(女家长)
Echo
before
she
died
in
2009.
Using
data
collected
over
38
years
of
watching
this
group,
the
researchers
analysed
them
for
26
types
of
behaviour
and
found
four
personality
traits
tended
to
come
to
the
fore.
The
strongest
personality
to
emerge
was
that
of
the
leader
unlike
other
animals,
where
leadership
tends
to
be
won
by
the
most
dominant
and
aggressive
individual,
the
elephants
instead
respected
intelligence
and
problem
solving
in
their
leader.
The
playful
elephants
tended
to
be
younger
but
were
more
curious
and
active.
Eudora,
a
40 year old
female
in
the
herd,
seemed
to
be
the
most
playful,
consistently
showing
this
trait
throughout
her
life
while
playfulness
in
some
of
the
other
elephants
declined
with
age.
Gentle
elephants,
which
included
two
27 year old
females
Eleanor
and
Eliot,
caressed
and
rubbed
against
others
more
than
the
others.
Those
that
were
reliable
tended
to
be
those
that
were
most
consistent
at
making
good
decisions,
helped
to
care
for
infants
in
the
herd
and
were
calm
when
faced
with
threats.
Echo
and
her
youngest
daughter
Ebony
seemed
to
be
the
most
reliable.
Professor
Lee
said
that
elephants
with
these
traits
tended
to
be
the
most
socially
integrated
in
the
group
while
those
who
tended
to
be
less
reliable
and
pushy
were
more
likely
to
split
from
the
herd.

Miss
Jenkins
was
born
into
a
rich
family.
She
liked
foods
that
were
high
in
fat
and
sugar.
So
she
got
fatter
and
fatter.
Her
workmates
often
laughed
at
her
because
of
this.
She
was
angry
with
them.
But
her
weight
brought
her
even
more
trouble.
Men
weren't
interested
in
someone
so
fat,
so
she
was
afraid
that
she
would
never
have
a
boyfriend
or
husband.
She
went
to
see
many
doctors.
They
gave
her
a
list
of
healthy
diets
and
advised
her
to
lose
weight.
Of
course
it
was
difficult
for
her
to
do
so.
For
example,
it
was
her
birthday
one
day.
She
went
to
a
shop
and
bought
a
nice
cake.
The
shop
assistant
asked
her
how
many
pieces
she
wanted
him
to
cut
it
into.
She
thought
for
a
while
and
said
she
was
losing
weight,
so
the
cake
should
be
cut
only
into
two,
not
into
six!
17.Why
did
the
woman
get
fatter
A.Because
there
was
something
wrong
with
her.
B.Because
she
liked
foods
rich
in
fat
and
sugar.
C.Because
she
never
did
any
sports.
18.What
do
we
know
about
the
woman's
workmates
A.They
tried
to
make
her
trust
herself.
B.They
helped
her
to

第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
When
was
the
last
time
someone
did
something
unexpectedly
nice
for
you?Not
someone
you
knew,
but
a
total
stranger?It's
happened
to
me
a
few
times,
but
two
instances
really
stand
out.
A
few
years
ago,
I
was
dining
out
with
a
person
who
kept
going
on
and
on
about
himself,
completely
unaware
of
the
fact
that
I
was
sitting
there
in
misery
(痛苦).
It
wasn't
his
company
that
disappointed
me.
I
was
recovering
from
a
bad
grade
in
my
study.
I
could
have
collapsed
(崩溃)
in
tears
right
there
at
the
table.
When
we
picked
up
the
check,
the
waitress
said,
“Your
meal
was
already
paid
for.”
My
friend
and
I
didn't
have
a
clue
how
it
happened.
Then
I
remembered
a
man
coming
in
out
of
the
corner
of
my
eye.
He
was
dressed
in
mostly
white,
sat
down
at
the
bar,
had
a
glass
of
wine,
stayed
for
maybe
ten
minutes,
and
then
left.
The
waitress
said,
“Yes,
the
gentleman
who
was
in
here
a
while
ago
paid
for
you.”
Just
last
year,
I
was
running
a
half marathon.
With
just
0.1
miles
to
go,
I
was
out
of
gas.
Runners
call
it
“hitting
the
wall”;
I
thought
I
couldn't
move
another
muscle.
Out
of
nowhere,
a
teenager
jogs
up
next
to
me
and
says,
“What's
your
name,
sweetie?Jennifer
Okay,
Jennifer,
let's
go!
Come
on!
It's
just
around
the
corner!
You
can
do
it!”
And
he
ran
with
me
until
I
picked
up
my
pace.
I
found
him
at
the
finish
line
to
thank
him
for
the
encouragement
only
to
learn
he
wasn't
even
supposed
to
be
in
the
race
that
day.
He
was
running
in
place
of
someone
else.
I
still
shake
my
head
when
I
think
of
these
momentary
angels
that
came
to
me
at
my
point
of
need.

The
Royal
Horticulture
Society
(RHS)
finds
that
women
gardeners'
voices
speed
up
the
growth
of
tomato
plants
much
more
than
men's.
In
an
experiment,
the
research
found
that
tomato
plants
grew
up
to
two
inches
taller
if
they
were
sung
to
by
a
female
rather
than
a
male.
The
most
effective
voice
came
from
Sarah
Darwin,
whose
great great
grandfather
was
the
botanist
(植物学家),
Charles
Darwin,
one
of
the
founding
fathers
of
the
RHS.
She
read
a
passage
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
and
beat
nine
other
“voices”.
Her
plant
grew
nearly
two
inches
taller
than
the
best
performing
male
and
half
an
inch
taller
than
her
nearest
competitor.
Colin
Crosbie,
Garden
Manager
at
the
RHS,
said,
“We
just
don't
know
why.
It
could
be
because
they
have
a
greater
range
of
pitch
(音高)
and
tone
(音色)
that
affects
the
sound
waves
that
hit
the
plant.
Sound
waves
are
an
environmental
effect
just
like
rain
or
light.”
In
the
experiment,
every
plant
was
played
a
different
voice,
and
the
environmental
conditions
for
all
the
plants
remained
the
same
throughout
the
experiment.
To
prove
the
results
of
the
experiment,
two
plants
were
also
left
to
grow
in
silence.
The
results
showed
that
women's
plants
rose
by
an
inch
more
than
men's
and
much
more
than
the
plants
left
in
complete
silence.
Miss
Darwin
said,
“I'm
not
sure
if
it's
my
sweet
tones
or
the
text
that
I
read
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
that
made
the
plants
listen,
but
either
way,
I
think
it
is
an
honor
to
have
such
a
voice,
and
especially
fitting
for
me,
because
for
years
I
have
been
studying
wild
tomatoes
at
the
Natural

Museum
(NHM)
in
London.

语篇解读:园艺工的性别对植物有影响吗?英国皇家园艺学会发现,女性园艺工种植的西红柿比男性园艺工种植的西红柿生长速度更快。
29.What
is
the
purpose
of
this
passage
A.To
prove
that
women
are
better
gardeners
than
men.
B.To
explain
which
kind
of
voice
is
better
for
plant
growth.
C.To
report
the
results
of
an
experiment
on
tomato
plants.
D.To
explain
the
reason
for
the
experiment
results.
解析:选C 主旨大意题。文章报道了英国皇家园艺学会的一个新的研究结果:女性园艺工种植的西红柿比男性园艺工种植的西红柿生长速度快,但是这种现象的原因是什么在研究结果中并没有提到,排除D项,因此答案选C项。
30.How
many
tomato
plants
were
chosen
for
this
experiment
A.9.
B.10.
C.11.
D.12.
解析:选D 推理判断题。文章第四段提到“She
read
a
passage
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
and
beat
nine
other
‘voices’.”
,由此可知供研究的西红柿是十株,在第六段中又提到“To
prove
the
results
of
the
experiment,
two
plants
were
also
left
to
grow
in
silence.”
,那么一共有10+2=12株用于实验。
31.What
can
we
learn
about
Sarah
Darwin
A.She
is
one
of
the
founders
of
the
RHS.
B.She
is
very
proud
of
her
sweet
voice.
C.She
discovered
why
her
voice
benefited
plants.
D.She
will
work
at
the
NHM
in
London
after
the
experiment.
解析:选B 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段中“...
I
think
it
is
an
honor
to
have
such
a
voice,
and
especially
fitting
for
me,
because
for
years
I
have
been
studying
wild
tomatoes
at
the
Natural
History
Museum
(NHM)
in
London.”可知B项正确,C、D两项错误;根据第三段内容可知A项错误。
32.What
can
be
inferred
from
the
passage
A.Sarah's
nearest
competitor
was
also
a
woman.
B.Texts
from
On
the
Origin
of
Species
can
make
plants
grow
faster.
C.Men's
voices
have
a
greater
range
of
pitch
and
tone
than
women's.
D.Colin
Crosbie
predicted
that
women's
voices
were
better
for
plants
than
men's.
解析:选A 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Her
plant
grew
nearly
two
inches
taller
than
the
best
performing
male
and
half
an
inch
taller
than
her
nearest

D
Elephants
have
four
distinct
personalities
that
help
their
hard
survive
in
the
African
bush,
scientists
have
found.
With
their
grey
skin,
mournful
eyes
and
slow
plodding
gait,
you
could
be
forgiven
for
thinking
elephants
are
uniformly
melancholy
(忧郁的)
creatures.
But
scientists
have
now
discovered
the
largest
living
land
animals
have
personalities
to
match
their
size.
In
a
new
study
of
African
elephants,
researchers
have
identified
four
distinct
characters
that
are
prevalent
with
a
herd
—
the
leaders,
the
gentle
giants,
the
playful
rogues
and
the
reliable
plodders
(辛勤工作的人).
Each
of
the
types
has
developed
to
help
the
giant
mammals
survive
in
their
harsh
environment
and
are
almost
unique
in
the
animal
kingdom,
according
to
the
scientists.
Professor
Lee
and
her
colleague
Cynthia
Moss
studied
a
herd
of
elephants
in
the
Amboseli
National
Park
in
Kenya
known
as
the
EB
family
—
famous
for
their
matriarch
(女家长)
Echo
before
she
died
in
2009.
Using
data
collected
over
38
years
of
watching
this
group,
the
researchers
analysed
them
for
26
types
of
behaviour
and
found
four
personality
traits
tended
to
come
to
the
fore.
The
strongest
personality
to
emerge
was
that
of
the
leader
unlike
other
animals,
where
leadership
tends
to
be
won
by
the
most
dominant
and
aggressive
individual,
the
elephants
instead
respected
intelligence
and
problem
solving
in
their
leader.
The
playful
elephants
tended
to
be
younger
but
were
more
curious
and
active.
Eudora,
a
40 year old
female
in
the
herd,
seemed
to
be
the
most
playful,
consistently
showing
this
trait
throughout
her
life
while
playfulness
in
some
of
the
other
elephants
declined
with
age.
Gentle
elephants,
which
included
two
27 year old
females
Eleanor
and
Eliot,
caressed
and
rubbed
against
others
more
than
the
others.
Those
that
were
reliable
tended
to
be
those
that
were
most
consistent
at
making
good
decisions,
helped
to
care
for
infants
in
the
herd
and
were
calm
when
faced
with
threats.
Echo
and
her
youngest
daughter
Ebony
seemed
to
be
the
most
reliable.
Professor
Lee
said
that
elephants
with
these
traits
tended
to
be
the
most
socially
integrated
in
the
group
while
those
who
tended
to
be
less
reliable
and
pushy
were
more
likely
to
split
from
the
herd.

33.From
the
passage
we
get
to
know
that
________.
A.the
researchers
reached
their
conclusion
by
analyzing
the
date
B.the
research
centered
on
the
26
types
of
behavior
of
the
matriarch
C.the
scientists
conducted
the
research
by
comparing
elephants
with
other
animals
D.Professor
Phyllis
Lee
and
her
colleague
spent
nearly
38
years
tracking
the
herd
解析:选A 细节理解题。从第6段可知,“the
researchers
analysed
them
for
26
types
of
behaviour
and
found
...”,所以并不是以大象种群中女家长的26种行为作为中心研究对象。B错;通读全文可知,文中并没有把大象和其他的动物进行对比,所以C也错误;第6段中明确说到over
38
years,
所以D选项中的nearly错误。而A中信息在第6段明确提及,所以正确。
34.The
leader
of
an
elephant
herd
is
not
necessarily
________.
A.aggressive
B.reliable
C.intelligent
D.experienced
解析:选A 推理判断题。第7段中提到“unlike
other
animals...
instead
respected
intelligence
and
problem
solving
in
their
leader”可知,大象种群中的领袖不一定是要好斗和具有侵略性的。
35.According
to
the
new
findings
of
the
scientists
________.
A.playfulness
of
an
elephant
will
always
decline
with
age
B.those
elephants
which
are
caring
and
wise
are
most
reliable
C.each
elephant
can
be
matched
with
only
one
of
the
four
personalities
D.once
becoming
a
member
of
a
herd,
an
elephant
will
never
split
from
it
解析:选B 细节理解题。通过第8段举例,我们可以得知这个叫做Eudora的大象虽然已经40岁了,但是依然还是playful,这说明A错误;通读全文,我们很容易发现每个大象身上不仅仅只具备文中提到的一种品质和特点,所以C错误;通过倒数第二段中“those
who
tended
to
be
less
reliable
and
pushy
were
more
likely
to
split
from
the
herd”可知,并不是说一旦成为一个种群的一员,就一定不会再从中分离。B选项在倒数第2段中可以找到依据“Those
that
were
reliable
tended
to
be
those
that
were
most
consistent
at
making
good
decisions
...”。
