二、阅读理解
(共15题,每题2分,满分30分)
(A)
Using
too
much
water
or
throwing
rubbish
into
our
rivers
are
clear
ways
that
humans
can
put
our
water
supply
in
less
obvious
ways.
You
may
wonder
how
paving(铺砌)
a
road
can
lead
to
less
usable
fresh
water.
A
major
part
of
the
water
we
use
every
day
is
groundwater.
Groundwater
does
not
come
from
lakes
or
rivers.
It
comes
from
underground.
The
more
roads
and
parking
lots
we
pave,
the
less
water
can
flow
into
the
ground
to
become
groundwater.
Human
activity
is
not
responsible
for
all
water
shortages(短缺).
Areas
of
drier
climates
are
of
course
more
likely
to
have
droughts(干旱)
than
ones
with
more
rainfall,
but
in
any
case,
good
management
can
help
to
make
sure
there
is
enough
water
to
meet
our
basic
needs.
Thinking
about
the
way
we
use
water
every
day
can
make
a
big
difference,
too.
In
the
United
States,
a
family
of
four
can
use
1.5
tons
of
water
a
day
!
This
shows
how
much
we
depend
on
water
to
live,
but
there’s
a
lot
we
can
do
to
lower
the
number.
You
can
take
steps
to
save
water
in
your
home.
To
start
with,
use
the
same
glass
for
your
drinking
water
all
day.
Wash
it
only
once
a
day.
Run
your
dishwasher
only
when
it
is
full.
Help
your
parents
fix
any
leaks
in
your
home.
You
can
even
help
to
keep
our
water
supply
clean
by
recycling
batteries
instead
of
throwing
them
away.
21.
Which
of
the
following
is
most
likely
to
lead
to
less
groundwater
A.
Using
river
water.
B.
Throwing
batteries
away.
C.
Paving
parking
lots.
D.
Throwing
rubbish
into
lakes.
22.
What
can
be
inferred
from
the
test
A.
All
water
shortages
are
because
of
human
behavior.
B.
It
takes
a
lot
of
efforts
to
meet
our
water
needs,
C.
There
is
much
we
can
do
to
reduce
family
size.
D.
The
average
family
in
America
makes
proper
use
of
water.
23.
The
last
paragraph
is
intended
to
_________.
A.
show
us
how
to
fix
leaks
at
home
B.
tell
us
how
to
run
a
dishwasher
C.
prove
what
drinking
glass
is
best
for
us
D.
suggest
what
we
do
to
save
water
at
home
24.
The
text
is
mainly
about_________.
A.
why
paving
roads
reduces
our
water
B.
how
much
we
depend
on
water
to
live
C.
why
droughts
occur
more
in
dry
climates
D.
how
human
activity
affects
our
water
supply
(B)
You
may
visit
bars
or
cafes,
and
you
often
write
something
on
sticky
notes(便利贴).
You
can
write
your
thanks,
sadness,
happiness
and
so
on.
And
the
waiter
will
stick
them
on
the
walls.
But
in
Homer,
Alaska,
a
bar
covered
all
its
walls
with
dollar
bills.
They
are
all
written
by
its
customers.
And
Salty
Dawg
Saloon
now
is
the
most
famous
building
of
Homer
Spit.
There
are
a
lot
of
bars
in
the
town
of
Homer.
But
people
like
driving
a
little
farther
to
Salty
Dawg.
Some
don’t
even
drink
there.
The
place
is
famous
for
its
money—covered
inside.
And
many
tourists
just
stop
by
to
see
it.
The
tradition
of
sticking
dollar
bills
started
several
tens
of
years
ago.
A
visitor
walked
in
and
stuck
a
dollar
on
the
wall.
He
said
that
his
friend
would
come
later.
His
friend
could
use
the
dollar
to
buy
himself
a
drink.
The
act
soon
caught
on.
And
by
the
early
1900s,
everyone
who
came
in
started
to
stick
bills
on
the
wall.
Today,
it’s
hard
to
find
a
spot
to
put
a
new
dollar
bill!
The
bar
was
once
a
farm
house.
It
was
one
of
the
first
buildings
that
went
up
in
1897.It
was
the
town’s
post
office
and
grocery
for
many
years.
In
1957,
it
was
changed
into
the
Salty
Dawg
Saloon.
And
it
is
now
the
only
bar
located
in
Homer
Spit.
25.
What
is
special
in
Salty
Dawg
Saloon
A.
It
is
covered
with
dollar
bills
outside.
B.
It
is
the
only
bar
in
the
town
of
Homer.
C.
customers
write
words
on
dollar
bills.
D.
All
customers
are
satisfied
with
its
drinks.
26.
How
did
the
“sticking
dollar
bills”
tradition
first
start
A.
The
owner
came
up
with
the
idea,
B.
A
visitor
left
a
dollar
as
a
gift.
C.
A
customer
wanted
to
treat
his
friend
with
the
dollar.
D.
A
customer
used
a
dollar
bill
to
show
thanks.
27.
What
does
the
underlined
phrase
“caught
on”
in
the
third
paragraph
mean
A.
Died
B.
Appeared
C.
Became

London-Here’s
a
new
warning
from
health
experts:
Sitting
is
deadly.
Scientists
are
increasingly
warning
that
sitting
for
long
periods-even
if
you
also
exercise
regularly-could
be
bad
for
your
health.
And
it
doesn’t
matter
where
the
sitting
takes
place-at
the
office,
at
school,
in
the
car
or
before
a
computer
or
TV-just
the
overall
number
of
hours
it
occurs.
Several
studies
suggest
people
who
spend
most
of
their
days
sitting
are
more
likely
to
be
fat,
have
a
heart
attack
or
even
die.
In
an
editorial
published
this
week
in
the
British
Journal
of
Sports
Medicine,
Elin
Ekblom-Bak
of
the
Swedish
School
of
sport
and
Health
Sciences
suggested
that
authorities
rethink
how
they
define
physical
activity
to
highlight
the
dangers
of
sitting.
While
health
officials
have
issued
guidelines
recommending
minimum
amounts
of
physical
activity,
they
haven’t
suggested
people
try
to
limit
how
much
time
they
spend
in
a
seated
position.
“After
four
hours
of
sitting,
the
body
starts
to
send
harmful
signals,”said
Ekblom-Bak.
She
explained
that
genes
regulating(调节)the
amount
of
glucose(葡萄糖)
and
fat
in
the
body
start
to
shut
down.
Even
for
people
who
exercise,
spending
long
periods
of
time
sitting
at
a
desk
is
still
harmful.
Tim
Armstrong,
a
physical
activity
expert
at
the
World
Health
Organization,
said
people
who
exercise
every
day-but
still
spend
a
lot
of
time
sitting-might
get
more
benefit
if
that
exercise
was
spread
across
the
day,
rather
than
in
a
single
bout(一回).
Experts
said
more
research
is
needed
to
figure
out
just
how
much
sitting
is
dangerous,
and
what
might
be
possible
to
offset
those
effects.
“People
should
keep
exercising
because
that
has
a
lot
of
benefits,”
Ekblom-Bak
said.
“But
when
they
are
in
the
office,
they
should
try
to
interrupt
sitting
as
often
as
possible,”
she
said.

First-born
children
do
better
in
school
and
have
higher
IQs.
They
also
tend
to
be
considered
more
accomplished(
有成就的)by
their
parents-and
it’s
being
linked
to
the
fact
that
they
are
brought
up
more
strictly
than
their
younger
siblings(兄弟姐妹).
The
study
found
that
33.8
percent
of
mothers
claimed
their
first-born
is
one
of
the
best
students
in
the
class---and
only
1.8
percent
put
their
children
at
the
bottom.
With
each
successive
(依次的)
sibling,
the
former
fell
and
the
latter
figure
rose:
essentially,
more
mothers
consider
their
second
or
third
born
children
less
intelligent,
Of
the
women
surveyed,
31.8
percent
said
their
second-born
was
one
of
the
best
students.
Less
than
a
third,
29
percent,
said
the
same
of
their
third,
and
27.2
percent
rated
their
fourth
in
the
top.
Conversely(相反地),
the
near
the
bottom
of
the
class
numbers
rose:
Two
percent
rated
their
second
the
worst,
2.1
the
third
and
3.6
the
fourth.
The
mothers,
who
reported
being
stricter
with
their
first
children,
are
right,
according
to
the
NBER
paper.
Eldest
children
were
found
to
have
consistently
higher
grades
and
test
scores
at
school.
According
to
the
study,
parents
are
more
likely
to
bring
up
their
first
children
strictly,
while
younger
children
are
less
likely
to
be
punished
if
their
marks
are
dire.
The
study’s
findings
support
the
theory
that
school
performance
goes
down
with
birth
order.
But
could
this
be
down
to
the
way
in
which
they’re
treated
by
their
parents
When
asked
how
they
would
respond
if
a
child
brought
home
bad
grades,
parents
stated
that
they
would
be
less
likely
to
punish
their
later-born
children.
It
seems
younger
siblings
don’t
feel
the
same
parental
pressure
to
succeed
as
their
older
brothers
or
sisters
do---and
so
don’t
do
quite
as
well
academically.
Study
authors,
V.
Joseph
Hotz
and
Juan
Pantano,
found
that
parents
are
more
involved
in
the
academic
performance
of
first-borns;
they’re
also
more
likely
to
enforce
strict
rules
and
punishments.
It
could
be
the
case
that
parents
are
more
relaxed
with
their
later-born
children
because
they
are
exhausted
and
less
anxious
about
policing
their
children’s
behavior.
32.
Which
is
the
right
order
of
children’s
intelligence

“_______”.
A.

35.
Why
do
parents
give
little
pressure
to
their
later-born
children
A.
Because
the
eldest

Sometimes,
we

to
do
one
thing,
but
met
with
another
thing
instead:
something
fortunate
we
never
would
have
expected.
That

the
Myers
family
on
a
visit
to
Madison.
The
Myers
family,
42
their
nicest
wedding
attire(盛装),
decided
to
take
a
43
photo
in
front
of
the
Wisconsin
State
Capitol
building.
Mr.
Myers
put
down
his
bag,
found
a
nice
sunny
44
in
front
of
the
building,
told
his
wife
and
kids
where
to
45
,
set
his
camera
on
a
wall
and
pressed
the
timer
button.
He
46
to
get
into
the
picture.
Three…
two…
one…
snap!
A
47
shot!
The
surroundings
matched
them
so
well.
Then
Mr.
Myers
went
to
get
his
bag
from
where
he’d
left
it,
only
to
find
the
bag
was
gone.
Inside
were
his
cash,
his
credit
cards,
keys…
Mr.
Myers
ran
around
the
building,
48
he
didn’t
see
anyone
with
his
bag.
Mr.
Myers
glanced
at
all
the
fellows
around,
hoping
to
49
something
on
their
faces.
Then
a
fellow
in
red
caught
his
50
.
The
guy

to
51
Mr.
Myers’
eyes.
What’s

57

“He
is
the
thief!”

as
he
58
,
the
fellow
in

was
missing.
He
showed
the
photo
to
police
officers.
After
a
few
minutes,
they
found
the
thief
and
recovered
the
59
bag.
If
they
had
moved
a
little
to

wouldn’t
have
been
photographed.
