Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Most people will be aware that a healthy, happy, loving family is a joy to be part of, and that it is a necessary foundation for building a strong and harmonious society. But for most, awareness will not become reality. People will be subjected to increasingly more various and complex influences. Advertisers will create new desires and turn them into necessities. This will leave people feeling confused about their values and priorities (优先).
Too many people are already hooked_on the beliefs of the “me generation” so they fail to appreciate that there is a time in life when they must get hooked on sacrifice and teamwork. At a time when adults need to become focused on the needs of their family, they will be subjected to other influences. Some will use bad timing as they proudly sacrifice for a more powerful car or a luxury house. Some will be hooked on taking risks, and others will recite phrases like “I must become the best I can be” or “I don’t want to be tied down”. The needs of their family will be lost in complex set of priorities.
Many people have not actually experienced a solid positive family life, so they will tend to deny its worth (and unfortunately, some will even believe it doesn’t exist). Many people have always experienced family life as a struggle, so they won’t find time and energy for a workshop, and probably won’t even recognize the need.
But it is extremely important for our future that we maintain a healthy idea. We need to value and appreciate the importance of what can be achieved by loving and committed parents. People need a strong foundation, so it is vital for our society that we encourage parents to work at creating love, joy, and happiness in a decent, stable, and productive atmosphere.

Maybe ten-year-old Elizabeth put it best when she said to her father, “But, Dad, you can’t be healthy if you’re dead.”
Dad, in a hurry to get home before dark so he could go for a run, had forgotten to wear his safety belt — a mistake 75% of US population make every day. The big question is why.
There have been many myths about safety belt ever since their first appearance in cars some forty years ago. The following are three of the most common.
Myth the Number One: It’s best to be “thrown clear” of a serious accident.
Truth: Sorry, but any accident serious enough to “throw you clear” is able going to be serious enough to give you a very bad landing. And chances are you’ll have traveled through a windshield (挡风玻璃) or door to do it. Studies show that chances of dying after a car accident are twenty-five times in cases where people are “thrown clear”.
Myth Number Two: Safety-bets “trap” people in cars that are burning or sinking in water.
Truth: Sorry again, but studies show that people knocked unconscious (昏迷) due to not wearing safety belts have a greater chance of dying in these accidents. People wearing safety belts are usually protected to the point of having in these accidents. People wearing safety belts are usually protected to the point of having a clear head to free themselves from such dangerous situations, not to be trapped in them.
Myth Number Three: Safety belts aren’t needed at speeds of less than 30 miles per hour (mph).
Truth: When two cars traveling at 30 mph hit each other, an unbelted driver would meet the windshield with a force equal to diving headfirst into the ground from a height of 10 metres.

6.Some people prefer to drive without wearing a safety belt because they believe ________.

B.they will be unable to think clearly in an accident
C.they will be caught when help comes
D.cars catch fire easily

A.Never drive faster than 30 miles an hour.
B.Try your best to save yourself in a car accident.
C.Never forget to wear the safety belt while driving.

Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized as “honor” helps you create this life of good feelings.
Here’s an example to show how honorable actions create happiness.
Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk’s mistake, we would drive home with a sense of sneaky excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul.
Then, what is it to do with our sense of happiness?
In the first case, where we don’t tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate that we cannot lie trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations by telling others. In contrast, bringing_the_error_to_the_clerk’s_attention causes different things to happen. Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased. Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility.
There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it’s easy to think and act honorably again when we’re happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it’s started, it’s easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness.
8.According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our ________.
A.self-respect B.financial rewards
C.advertising ability D.friendly relationship
解析:选A 推理判断题。由第五段倒数第二句“Upon leaving the store,we feel honourable and our self-respect is increased.”可知采取积极的行动有助于我们自尊感的增强。
9.The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to ________.
A.lying B.stealing
C.cheating D.advertising
解析:选B 细节理解题。由第三段第二句“If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk’s mistake,we would drive home with a sense of sneaky excitement”可知作者觉得就像做贼一样。
10.The underlined phrase “bringing the error to the clerk’s attention” (in Para. 5) means “________”.
A.telling the truth to the clerk
B.offering advice to the clerk
C.asking the clerk to be more attentive
D.reminding the clerk of the charged item
解析:选A 词义猜测题。根据第五段第一句“In the first case, where we don’t tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen.”及本段第五句“In contrast, bringing the error to the clerk’s attention causes different things to happen.”可知此短语含义是向售货员讲述实情。
11.Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?
A.How to Live Truthfully
B.Importance of Peacefulness
C.Ways of Gaining Self-respect
D.Happiness through Honorable Actions

参考范文:
Last Saturday was my grandpa’s birthday. To celebrate his birthday, we made many preparations. Early in the morning, my parents and I set off for the department store to find a gift for Grandpa. We chose very carefully. Eventually a warm sweater caught our eyes and we purchased it.
To show my love for my grandpa, I made a birthday cake with the help of my mother. In the evening, we got together to celebrate his birthday. With candles lit, we sang “Happy Birthday” loud and clapped. After making a wish, he blew out the candles. The room was alive with the sound of cheering.
Then we took a picture of the whole family to record the happy moment. When I saw tears of happiness in Grandpa’s eyes, I was filled with a feeling of accomplishment and happiness.
