Something
fun
A
person
is
on
trial
for
murder
in
a
court
room
in
Oklahoma.
There
is
strong
evidence
indicating
guilt.
However,
the
body
is
not
found.
In
the
defense's(辩护)closing
statement,
the
lawyer,
knowing
that
his
client
is
guilty
and
that
it
looks
like
he'll
probably
be
convicted,
resorts
to
a
clever
trick.
"Ladies
and
gentlemen
of
the
jury
(陪审团),
I
have
a
surprise
for
you
all,"
the
lawyer
says
as
he
looks
at
his
watch."
Within
one
minute,
the
person
assumed
dead
in
this
case
will
walk
into
this
court
room,"
he
says
and
he
looks
towards
the
court-room
door.
The
jury,
somewhat
surprised,
looks
at
the
door
eagerly.
A
minute
passes.
Nothing
happens.
Finally
the
lawyer
says,"
Actually,
I
made
up
the
previous
statement.
But
you
all
waited
with
expectation.
I,
therefore,
put
it
to
you
that
there
is
a
reasonable
doubt
in
this
case
as
to
whether
anyone
was
killed
and
insist
that
you
return
a
verdict
(裁决)of
no
guilt.
The
jury,
clearly
confused,
retires
to
discuss.
A
very
few
minutes
later,
the
jury
returns
and
a
representative
pronounces
a
verdict
of
guilt.
“But
how ”
inquires
the
lawyer.
“You
must
have
had
some
doubt;
I
saw
all
of
you
stare
at
the
door.”
Answers
the
representative,
“Oh,
we
did
look.
But
your
client
didn’t.”
24.Why
was
the
person
on
trial
according
to
the
passage
A.
Because
he
couldn’t
pay
off
the
debts.
B.
Because
he
planned
to
cheat
the
jury.
C.
Because
he
did
not
pay
the
tax
in
time.
D.
Because
he
was
accused
of
murder.
25.Why
did
the
lawyer
come
up
with
the
trick
A.
To
find
the
body.
B.
To
help
his
client.
C.
To
annoy
the
jury.
D.
To
save
himself.
26.Why
did
the
jury
look
at
the
door
eagerly
A.
The
lawyer’s
words
must
be
true.
B.
They
expected
his
family
to
come
in.
C.
They
thought
the
person
on
trial
was
escaping.
D.
They
were
surprised
and
taken
in
by
the
lawyer.
27.What
did
the
representative’s
answer
mean
in
the
last
paragraph
A.
They
firmly
believed
that
nobody
was
killed.
B.
The
jury
still
needed
more
evidence
to
prove
it.
C.
The
behavior
of
the
client
gave
him
away.
D.
The
lawyer’s
words
were
worth
thinking
about.
C
Ever
since
they
were
first
put
on
the
market
in
the
early
1990s,
genetically
modified
(GM,
转基因)
foods
have
been
increasingly
developed
and
marketed
in
many
countries
in
the
world,
mainly
on
the
basis
of
their
promise
to
end
the
worldwide
food
crisis.
But
can
GM
technology
solve
world
hunger
problems
Even
if
it
would,
is
it
the
best
solution
Despite
what
it
promises,
GM
technology
actually
has
not
increased
the
production
potential
of
any
crop.
In
fact,
studies
show
that
the
most
widely
grown
GM
crop,
GM
soybeans,
has
suffered
reduced
productivity.
For
instance,
a
report
that
analyzed
nearly
two
decades
of
research
on
major
GM
food
crops
shows
that
GM
engineering
has
failed
to
significantly
increase
US
crop
production.
Something
else,
however,
has
been
on
the
rise.
While
GM
seeds
are
expensive,
GM
companies
tell
farmers
that
they
will
make
good
profits
by
saving
money
on
pesticides(杀虫剂).
On
the
contrary,
US
government
data
show
that
GM
crops
in
the
US
have
produced
an
overall
increase
in
pesticide
use
compared
to
traditional
crops.
“The
promise
was
that
you
could
use
less
chemicals
and
boost
production.
But
nether
is
true,”
said
Bill
Christison,
President
of
the
US
National
Farm
Coalition.
At
the
same
time,
the
authors
of
the
book
World
Hunger,
Twelve
Myths
argue
that
there
actually
is
more
than
enough
food
in
the
world
and
that
the
hunger
crisis
is
not
caused
by
production,
but
by
problems
in
food
distribution
and
politics.
These
indeed
deserve
our
efforts
and
money.
Meanwhile,
the
rise
in
food
prices
results
from
the
increased
use
of
crops
for
fuel
rather
than
food,
according
to
a
2008
World
Bank
report.
As
a
matter
of
fact,
scientists
see
better
ways
to
feed
the
world.
Another
World
Bank
report
concluded
that
GM
crops
have
little
to
offer
to
the
challenges
of
worldwide
poverty
and
hunger,
because
better
ways
out
are
available,
among
which“green”farming
is
supposed
to
be
the
first
choice.
28.The
author
develops
the
second
paragraph
mainly
____________.
.
A.
by
classification
B.
by

C.
by

D.
by
process
29.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“boost”in
the
third
paragraph
probably
mean
A.
Control.
B.
Evaluate
C.
Increase.
D.
Obtain.
30.
GM
companies
promise
farmers
that
they
will
benefit
from
______________.
A.
use
of
less
chemicals
B.
practising“green”farming
C.
fair
distribution
of
their
crops
D.
using
more
crops
for
fuel
31.
Which
of
the
following
best
describes
the
attitude
of
the
author
towards
GM
technology
A.
Optimistic
B.
Defensive
C.
Casual
D.
Disapproving
D
About
three
decades
ago,
China
was
known
as
the
“Bicycle
Kingdom”.
But
the
two-wheeled
mode
of
transport’s
popularity
began
to
fade,
with
many
bikes
soon
replaced
by
their
fuel-powered
competitors.
But
recent
months
have
seen
a
revival
of
the
humble
bike
across
China,
with
an
increasing
number
of
people
choosing
cycling
instead
of
driving
to
schools,
to
workplaces
or
to
do
sightseeing.
The
introduction
of
bike-sharing
schemes,
pioneered
by
start-ups
(新兴公司)
like
Ofo
and
Mobike,
has
brought
the
trend
to
a
new
level.
According
to
the
data
by
iResearch
Consulting
Group,
the
first
week
of
this
year
saw
5.85
million
active
users
of
Mobike
while
Ofo
had
1.4
million
active
users.
People
can
unlock
the
shared
bikes
by
simply
using
their
smart
phones.
The
bikes
are
equipped
with
GPS
and
can
be
left
anywhere
in
public
for
the
next
user.
They’re
popular
among
many
Chinese
people
as
they
provide
an
effective
solution
to
the“last
mile”problem,
which
refers
to
the
final
leg
of
a
person’s
journey.
“In
places
where
the
subway
doesn’t
extend,
where
it’s
difficult
to
change
from
one
kind
of
transport
to
another,
it’s
so
easy
to
get
where
you
want
to
go
with
Mobike,”
Hu
Hong,
29,
told
AFP.
She
pedals
to
her
Shanghai
real-estate
job.
However,
the
schemes
have
also
led
to
problems
such
as
illegal
parking,
vandalism
(故意破坏)and
theft.
“Bike-sharing
is
a
greener
method
of
transportation
and
provides
a
user-friendly
experience,”
said
Liu
Xiaoming,
vice-minister
of
transport.
“But
it’s
a
combination
of
online
and
offline
business.
Operators
are
usually
strong
in
online
services,
but
lack
offline
business
experience,
which
causes
problems.”
Facing
these
problems,
the
company
came
up
with
the
idea
of
encouraging
people
to
return
the
bikes
to
stations
by
rewarding
free
time
for
their
next
rides.
Now,
Chinese
service
operators
are
also
trying
to
address
these
problems.
For
example,
Mobike
sets
a
100-point
credit
score
for
each
user,
with
points
taken
in
the
case
of
bad
behavior.
Once
a
score
drops
below
80,
bike
rental
is
increased
to
100
yuan
30
minutes,
up
from
0.5-1
yuan.

4
ways

A
recent
report
by
Common

found
that
over
one-third

11
percent
of
children

these
things
on
a

So
how

For
many,
just
taking
part
in
a
single
marathon
is
the
achievement
of
a
lifetime.
But
for
Julie
Weiss,
it
has
become
a
41
routine.
She
has
run
52
marathons
once
a
week
for
the
past
year
in
memory
of
her
dad
who
42
just
35
days
after
he
was
43
with
pancreatic
cancer(胰腺癌).When
Julie
Weiss
lost
her
father
in
2010,
she
was
44
to
find
the
research
for
pancreatic
cancer
is
so
short

"It
made
me
feel
45
.”she
said
,“I
knew
I
had
to

something."
So
this
marathon
queen,
46
she
calls
herself,
did
what
she
did
best:
She
went
running.
Having
completed
25
marathons
during
the
47
two
years,
Julie
now
vows(发誓)
to
run
52
marathons
in
52
weeks
in
48
of
her

After
asking

2013,
55
more
than
$200,000
in
the

for

While
running,
she

Dear

I
am
Li
Hua,
a

I
am
writing
to
apply
to
be
a

for
the

in
our

next
month.
I
think
I
am
qualified
for
the
post.
Firstly,
I
speak
English
fluently,
which
would
enable
me
to
communicate
with
foreign
guests
freely.
Secondly,
I
am
friendly
and
outgoing,
so
I
get
along
well
with
others
easily.
More
importantly,
I
traveled
to
Europe
last
summer,
so
I
am
familiar
with
western

If
I
am
given
the

to
broaden
my

and
meet
people
from
all

the
world,
I
will
spare
no

offer
my

I
hope
I
will
be
accepted
as
a

Looking
