第一部分 强调句详述
【1强调句的基本结构】
It+ is (was) +被强调成分+that (who)…
【注1】在该强调结构中，it is (was)…that (who)…为结构词，它通常可以省略，而不影响句子的意思。
【例】He bought the book in this shop yesterday.
⑴→It was he that bought the book in this shop yesterday. (强调主语he)
⑵→It was the book that he bought in this shop yesterday. (强调宾语the book)
⑶→It was in this shop that he bought the book yesterday. (强调地点状语in this shop)
【注2】原句子是现在时或将来时，强调句用It is + 被强调的部分 + that (who)…; 若原句子是过去时，强调句用：It was + 被强调的部分 + that (who)…
【例】Li Lei’s father will work in America. —It is in America that Li Lei’s father will work. 李蕾的父亲的工作将就在美国。
【例】I studied at this school a few years ago. —It was at this school that I studied a few years ago. 几年前我就在这所学校读书。
【注3】即使被强调的部分是复数，It后面始终用单数形式。
【例】Tom and Lucy gave us much help. —It was Tom and Lucy that gave us much help. 正是汤姆和露西给了我们很多的帮助。
【例】I saw swans in the lake yesterday. —It was swans that I saw in the lake yesterday. 昨天我看到在湖里的就是天鹅。
【注4】关于被强调成分：该强调句型中，被强调的成分除了是名词、代词、介词短语等之外, 也可以是从句：
【例】It is when he got back that he knew what had happened. 他回来后才知道所发生的情况。
【例】It was because he loved my money that he married me. 他是因为爱我的钱才同我结了婚。
【注5】强调人时，可用who 代替that, 但若强调时间、地点、原因、方式时，不能用when, where, why, how代替 that。如：
【例】 It is our teacher who / that helps us make great progress. 正是我们的老师帮助我们取得了很大的进步。
【例】It is by bus that I go to school every day. 每天我就是乘公共汽车上学。
【注6】强调主语时，who 或that后面的谓语形式须与被强调的主语保持一致。
【例】Lily speaks Chinese very well. —It is Lily who / that speaks Chinese very well. 李丽的汉语讲得很好。
【例】Children like stories. —It is Children that like stories. 孩子们喜欢故事。
【注7】强调句型不用于强调谓语、表语、since, as等引导的原因状语从句。如：
【例】He is better today since he can walk around without my help. 【误】It is better today that he is today since he can walk around without my help.
【误】It is since he can walk around without my help that he is better today.
【2强调句的变形】
【变1】强调句的否定句（即对否定句进行强调）
It + isn’t (wasn’t) + 被强调成分+that (who)…
【例】It is not he that/who studies French. 学法语的不是他。(原句：He doesn’t study French. )
【例】It wasn’t in the office that we held the meeting. 我们并不是在办公室开的会。
【变2】强调句的一般疑问句（即对一般疑问句进行强调）
Is / Was it+ 被强调部分 + that / who…
【例】Do you like English —It is English that you like 英语就是你喜欢的吗？
【例】Will you go to London —It is London that you will go to 你要去的就是伦敦吗？
【例】Is it Tommy who answered the telephone 是汤米接的电话吗
【例】Is it from advertising that a newspaper earns a lot of its profits 报纸获利最多的部分是在于广告收入吗？
【变3】强调句的特殊疑问句（即对特殊疑问句进行强调）
特殊疑问词(Who/what/why/how/how long…..)+is(was)+ it that+… 【其中特殊疑问词即是被强调部分】
【例】What made him so angry —What is it that made him so angry 是什么东西使他如此生气？
【例】Why did she cry —Why was it that she cried 是什么原因使他哭了起来？
【例】When was it that he got married 他是什么时候结婚的
【例】How long ago is it that you last saw her 你上一次看见她是多久以前的事
【例】Who was it that won the World Cup in 1982 谁赢得了1982年的世界杯
【例】Why is it that I always land up cleaning the bath 为什么总是该我来洗刷浴缸
【例】In which play of Shakespeare’s is it that Viola appears 维欧拉是在莎士比亚那个剧里出现的吗

【分析】答案选A，为强调句的特殊疑问句形式，其相应的陈述句形式为：
It was totally by chance that they discovered the entrance to the underground palace.
▲比较以下各题，它们也属强调句的特殊疑问句形式：
【例】Who was it _____ saved the drowning girl
A. since B. as C. that D. he
【分析】答案选C，被强调成分为 who，该句实为类似 It was Tom that saved the drowning girl. 这类强调句的特殊疑问句形式（即对其中的Tom 提问而得）。
【例】 What is it _____ his daughter needs most
A. what B. which C. that D. if
【分析】答案选C，被强调成分为 what，该句实为类似 It is a bike that his daughter needs most. 这类强调句的特殊疑问句形式（即对其中的a bike 提问而得）。
【变4】表推测的强调句
强调句中的be前可用表推测的情态动词：must, can, may等。
【例】It must be Piney that sent us this present. 肯定是Piney 给我们寄来了这件礼物。
【例】How can it be that he didn’t pass the exams. 他考试没有通过怎么可能呢？
【变5】强调句的特殊疑问句接于宾语从句中
主句+特殊疑问词+it is (was) +that+……
【例】I don’t know what it was that made her so angry.
【例】I’m wondering how it was that he managed to get there.
【3not…until句型的强调句】
It is / was not until+（名词或从句）+that+主句。
【注】在强调not…until结构中的时间状语时，应将not移到until前，再将not until部分移到被强调的位置。如：
【例】I didn’t go to bed until twelve o’clock last night. → It was not until twelve o’clock last night that I went to bed. 昨天晚上我一直到十二点才睡。
【例】I didn’t noticed it until yesterday.→It was not until yesterday that I noticed it. 直到昨天我才注意到此事。
【例】It was not until I saw Mary that I felt happy. 直到见到玛丽我才高兴起来。
【例】It was not until you had explained how that I managed to do it. 直到你给我解释了理由，我才会做的。
【例】It was not until she took off her dark glasses that I realized she was a famous film star. 直到她取下墨镜，我才意识到她是一位著名影星。
【例】It was not until I met you that I knew real happiness. 直到我遇到你以后，我才真正体会到幸福。
【例】It was not until you had explained how that I managed to do it. 直到你给我解释了理由，我才会做。
▲请看两道题：
【例】It _______ we had stayed together for a couple of weeks _______ I found we had a lot in common.

【分析】答案为D。此题考查not…until…句式的强调形式——It was not until…that…的用法。注意不要想当然地将其中的that换成when。
【例】It was not until she got home _______ Jennifer realized she had lost her keys.
A. when B. that C. where D. before
【分析】答案为B。考查not…until…的强调形式，其基本结构为it was not until….that…形式。
【区别】not……until…..的倒装句：Not until+名词或从句+助动词+主句。
【例】I didn’t go to bed until twelve o’clock last night.
→（强调句）It was not until twelve o’clock last night that I went to bed.
→（倒装句）Not until twelve o’clock last night did I go to bed.
【例】I didn’t noticed it until yesterday.
→（强调句）It was not until yesterday that I noticed it.
→（倒装句）Not until yesterday did I notice it.
【4强调句与定语从句的结合考查】
关键：分清句子的主次要信息。
【例】It was in the small house ______ was built with stones by his father ______ he spent his childhood.
A. which, that B. that, which C. which, which D. that, where
【分析】答案选A，第一空填 which，用以引导定语从句；第二空填that，为强调句的结构词，被强调部分为 in the small house (以及修饰它的定语从句 which was built with stones by his father)。此题难就难在强调句型中套用了定语从句。请再看类似例子：
【例】It was the boy _____ had been in prison _____ stole the money.
A. who, where B. that, how C. who, that D. that, which
【分析】此题答案选C，全句为强调句，被强调成分是 the boy (以及修饰它的定语从句who had been in prison)。
【例】It was just in the room _____ he was born _____ he died.
A. where, which B. that, that C. where, that D. which, that
【分析】此题答案选C，全句为强调句，被强调成分是 in this room，where he was born 为修饰 the room 的定语从句。
【5强调句与其他从句的区别】
【比较1】强调句与主语从句的比较
■强调句将句子中的it is / was …that同时省去，句子仍然成立；而主语从句将that与后面部分代替it，成立。如：
【例】 It is Li Lei’s brother that you met in the street yesterday. 你昨天在街上所见到的就是李蕾的兄弟。
本句若将It is 及 that同时省去为：You met Li Lei’s brother in the street yesterday. 句子同样成立，因此前面的句子是强调句型。
【例】 It is exciting that we have succeeded in sending up Shenzhou V. 我们成功地发射了神舟五号这件事情真令人兴奋。
本句若将It is 及 that同时省去为：We have succeeded exciting in sending up Shenzhou V. 显然句子错误，因此，前面句子不是强调句型，而是主语从句。
【比较2】强调句与定语从句的比较
■强调句中的It没有实际意义，It be与that可同时被省略；而定语从句中的It是主语，It be与that不可同时省略；
■强调句型中be的时态须跟后面句子的时态相一致；而定语从句中主句谓语动词be的时态须由主句的时间确定(from www.)；
■强调句将句子中的that不能省略，并且即使前面的名词是事物时，也不能将that换成which；而定语从句中的that作宾语时可被省略，并且当先行词是事物时可用which代替。
■当it be后面的时间、地点名词作主语、宾语或表语时，引导词可用that / which；而作其他成分时，引导词须用when / which。如：
【例】It is an English book (that / which) I bought yesterday. 它是我昨天买的书。(本句是对What is that 问句的回答，that所引导的是定语从句，that可被省略)
【例】It was the English book that I bought yesterday. 昨天我所卖的就是这本书。(本句相当于对I bought the English book yesterday中an English book进行强调)
【例】It was a room where we used to have meetings. 它是我们过去常在开会的房子。(where 所引导从句对前面的room进行说明，它是定语从句)
【例】It was in the room that we used to have meetings. 过去我们开会就在这间房子里。(in the room是被强调的部分，本句是强调句型)
【例】It is a day when the people celebrate their victory. 这是人们庆祝他们的胜利的日子。 (when所引导的从句对a day进行说明，是定语从句)
【例】It was on that day that people celebrated their victory. 就在那一天，人们庆祝了他们的胜利。(强调on October 1, 1949)
【例】--Where did you meet Mr. Smith –It was in the restaurant where we used to have lunch. 你在哪里碰到史密斯的？是在我们以前常常去吃午饭的那个餐馆。（where引导的定语从句）
【比较3】强调句与状语从句的比较
■状语从句句首的It本身就是句子的主语；而强调句首的It不作任何成分也没有实际意义。
■状语从句的连接副词that及句子前面的It be不能去掉。
■状语从句的引导词可以是when / where，而强调句型中的that不能用其他词代替。如：
【例】It is such an interesting book that we all like it very much. 它是一本如此有趣的书，我们大家都非常喜欢。(结果状语主从复合句)
It is such an interesting book that we all like very much. 我们大家都非常喜欢的就是一本如此有趣的书。(强调such an interesting book)
(比较：It is such an interesting book as we all like very much. 这就是我们大家都非常喜欢的如此有趣的书。定语从句)
【例】It was already morning when he woke up. 当他醒来时，已经是早晨了。(时间主从复合句)
It was the next morning that he woke up. 就在第二天早晨他醒来了。(强调the next morning)
【例】It was five o’clock when we got home. 当我们到家时，已是5点了。
It was at five o’clock that we got home. 我们是5点时到家的。
【例】—Was it under the tree _____ you were away talking to a friend
—Sure. But when I got back there, the bike was gone.
A. that B. where C. which D. while
【分析】其实此题应选D。做好此题的关键是正确理解上下文的语境。在此句中，it 是代词，指代 the bike，句意为：“当你离开去同朋友谈话的时候，你的自行车是在这树下吗 ”“当然，但当我回来时，自行车就不见了。”现在反过来分析一下，假若选A，将此句判为强调句，句子即为 Was it under the tree that you were away talking to a friend 若进一步转换为非强调句，句子则为 Under the tree while you were talking to a friend，句意显然很荒唐。
【6强调句与名词性从句的结合考查】
It was not what he said but how he behaved that made us angry. 使我们生气的不是他说的话，而是他做的样子。看题：
【例】It is what you do rather than what you way _________ matters.
A. that B. what C. which D. this
【例】It is not who is right but what is right _________ is of importance.
A. which B. it C. that D. this
【例】I don’t mind her criticizing me, but _________ is how she does it that I object to.
A. it B. that C. this D. which
【7强调句与状语从句的结合考查】（其中until句型已述）
【例】It was after he got married that he got to know Mary. 他是在结婚之后才认识玛丽的。
【例】It was after he got what he had desired _________ he realized it was not so important.
A. that B. when C. since D. as
【例】It was only after his father came back home that he began to do his homework.
【区别】倒装句：only after his father came back home did he begin to do his homework.
【例】It was because what you just said that
【例】It is when he got back that he knew what had happened. 他回来后才知道所发生的情况。
【例】It was because he loved my money that he married me. 他是因为爱我的钱才同我结了婚。
【8谓语动词的强调】
对谓语的强调用助动词do, does, did。（只存在于一般现在时和过去时）
▲请看下面的题：
An awful accident _________, however, occur the other day.
A. does B. did C. has to D. had to
【分析】此题正确答案应选B，句末的 the other day 意为“前几天”，所以句子应用过去时态，而选项D填进去不合题意，故选B。此句有两个难点：一是句中插有 however 一词，分散了同学们的注意力；二是所填选项B为许多同学所不熟悉的强调用法。又如：
【例】Your mother _________, however, say that to us that day.
A. does B. did C. is doing D. was doing
【例】Our math teacher _________, however, speak English well.
A. doing B. does C. is doing D. was doing
【9有关强调结构的重要考查点】
【考点1】考查强调句的基本形式
这类考题主要涉及被强调成分为介词短语的情形。如：
【例】It’s in the park that Jack met your sister yesterday. 杰克昨天是在公园与你的姐姐见面的。
【例】It is on political questions that their views are different. 他们在政治问题上见解不同。

【考点2】考查强调句的特殊疑问句形式（例略）

【1】设置陷阱，使考生将强调句误判为非强调句。
It might have been John _________ bought a present for Mary yesterday.
A. that B. when C. what D. which
【解析】答案选A，为强调句型，由于句中动词be采用了might have been这一复杂结构，所以许多同学们可能会看不出它是一个强调句型。
【2】设置陷阱，使考生将非强调句误判为强调句。
It was evening we reached the little town of Winchester.
A. that B. until C. since D. before
【解析】答案选D。有的考生一看到句首的it was，再联系到选项中的that，就以为这是考查强调句。其实错了。此题是考查连词before的用法。因为去掉It was…that这一结构后，原句不能成为一个完整的句子，所以这不是强调结构。句意是：我们还没有到达Winchester这个小镇，天就夜了。

◆典型陷阱题分析◆

【陷阱】此题容易误选D，认为强调的是原因状语从句 because we were late.
【分析】但实际上，此题的答案为B，强调的是句子主语 our being late，此题若还原成非强调句，即为：
Our being late caused him to serve dinner an hour later than usual.
注意，强调句的一个显著特点是，若去掉强调结构 it is [was]… that…，句子仍然成立；换句话说，该结构中的 that 不能充当句子成分。
2. “How was ______ they discovered the entrance to the underground palace？” “Totally by chance.”

【陷阱】几个干扰项均可能误选。
【分析】答案选A，为强调句的特殊疑问句形式，其相应的陈述句形式为：

【陷阱】几个干扰项均有可能误选，但最有可能误选的可能是A，认为这是一个普通的系表结构，即认为第二空要填形容词作表语。

第一部分 强调句详述
【1强调句的基本结构】
It+ is (was) +被强调成分+that (who)…
【注1】在该强调结构中，it is (was)…that (who)…为结构词，它通常可以省略，而不影响句子的意思。
【例】He bought the book in this shop yesterday.
⑴→It was he that bought the book in this shop yesterday. (强调主语he)
⑵→It was the book that he bought in this shop yesterday. (强调宾语the book)
⑶→It was in this shop that he bought the book yesterday. (强调地点状语in this shop)
【注2】原句子是现在时或将来时，强调句用It is + 被强调的部分 + that (who)…; 若原句子是过去时，强调句用：It was + 被强调的部分 + that (who)…
【例】Li Lei’s father will work in America. —It is in America that Li Lei’s father will work. 李蕾的父亲的工作将就在美国。
【例】I studied at this school a few years ago. —It was at this school that I studied a few years ago. 几年前我就在这所学校读书。
【注3】即使被强调的部分是复数，It后面始终用单数形式。
【例】Tom and Lucy gave us much help. —It was Tom and Lucy that gave us much help. 正是汤姆和露西给了我们很多的帮助。
【例】I saw swans in the lake yesterday. —It was swans that I saw in the lake yesterday. 昨天我看到在湖里的就是天鹅。
【注4】关于被强调成分：该强调句型中，被强调的成分除了是名词、代词、介词短语等之外, 也可以是从句：
【例】It is when he got back that he knew what had happened. 他回来后才知道所发生的情况。
【例】It was because he loved my money that he married me. 他是因为爱我的钱才同我结了婚。
【注5】强调人时，可用who 代替that, 但若强调时间、地点、原因、方式时，不能用when, where, why, how代替 that。如：
【例】 It is our teacher who / that helps us make great progress. 正是我们的老师帮助我们取得了很大的进步。
【例】It is by bus that I go to school every day. 每天我就是乘公共汽车上学。
【注6】强调主语时，who 或that后面的谓语形式须与被强调的主语保持一致。
【例】Lily speaks Chinese very well. —It is Lily who / that speaks Chinese very well. 李丽的汉语讲得很好。
【例】Children like stories. —It is Children that like stories. 孩子们喜欢故事。
【注7】强调句型不用于强调谓语、表语、since, as等引导的原因状语从句。如：
【例】He is better today since he can walk around without my help. 【误】It is better today that he is today since he can walk around without my help.
【误】It is since he can walk around without my help that he is better today.
【2强调句的变形】
【变1】强调句的否定句（即对否定句进行强调）
It + isn’t (wasn’t) + 被强调成分+that (who)…
【例】It is not he that/who studies French. 学法语的不是他。(原句：He doesn’t study French. )

【变2】强调句的一般疑问句（即对一般疑问句进行强调）

【变4】表推测的强调句
强调句中的be前可用表推测的情态动词：must, can, may等。
【例】It must be Piney that sent us this present. 肯定是Piney 给我们寄来了这件礼物。
【例】How can it be that he didn’t pass the exams. 他考试没有通过怎么可能呢？
【变5】强调句的特殊疑问句接于宾语从句中
主句+特殊疑问词+it is (was) +that+……
【例】I don’t know what it was that made her so angry.
【例】I’m wondering how it was that he managed to get there.
【3not…until句型的强调句】
It is / was not until+（名词或从句）+that+主句。
【注】在强调not…until结构中的时间状语时，应将not移到until前，再将not until部分移到被强调的位置。如：
【例】I didn’t go to bed until twelve o’clock last night. → It was not until twelve o’clock last night that I went to bed. 昨天晚上我一直到十二点才睡。
【例】I didn’t noticed it until yesterday.→It was not until yesterday that I noticed it. 直到昨天我才注意到此事。
【例】It was not until I saw Mary that I felt happy. 直到见到玛丽我才高兴起来。
【例】It was not until you had explained how that I managed to do it. 直到你给我解释了理由，我才会做的。
【例】It was not until she took off her dark glasses that I realized she was a famous film star. 直到她取下墨镜，我才意识到她是一位著名影星。

■强调句将句子中的it is / was …that同时省去，句子仍然成立；而主语从句将that与后面部分代替it，成立。如：
【例】 It is Li Lei’s brother that you met in the street yesterday. 你昨天在街上所见到的就是李蕾的兄弟。
本句若将It is 及 that同时省去为：You met Li Lei’s brother in the street yesterday. 句子同样成立，因此前面的句子是强调句型。
【例】 It is exciting that we have succeeded in sending up Shenzhou V. 我们成功地发射了神舟五号这件事情真令人兴奋。
本句若将It is 及 that同时省去为：We have succeeded exciting in sending up Shenzhou V. 显然句子错误，因此，前面句子不是强调句型，而是主语从句。
【比较2】强调句与定语从句的比较
■强调句中的It没有实际意义，It be与that可同时被省略；而定语从句中的It是主语，It be与that不可同时省略；
■强调句型中be的时态须跟后面句子的时态相一致；而定语从句中主句谓语动词be的时态须由主句的时间确定(from www.)；
■强调句将句子中的that不能省略，并且即使前面的名词是事物时，也不能将that换成which；而定语从句中的that作宾语时可被省略，并且当先行词是事物时可用which代替。
■当it be后面的时间、地点名词作主语、宾语或表语时，引导词可用that / which；而作其他成分时，引导词须用when / which。如：
【例】It is an English book (that / which) I bought yesterday. 它是我昨天买的书。(本句是对What is that 问句的回答，that所引导的是定语从句，that可被省略)
【例】It was the English book that I bought yesterday. 昨天我所卖的就是这本书。(本句相当于对I bought the English book yesterday中an English book进行强调)
【例】It was a room where we used to have meetings. 它是我们过去常在开会的房子。(where 所引导从句对前面的room进行说明，它是定语从句)
【例】It was in the room that we used to have meetings. 过去我们开会就在这间房子里。(in the room是被强调的部分，本句是强调句型)
【例】It is a day when the people celebrate their victory. 这是人们庆祝他们的胜利的日子。 (when所引导的从句对a day进行说明，是定语从句)
【例】It was on that day that people celebrated their victory. 就在那一天，人们庆祝了他们的胜利。(强调on October 1, 1949)
【例】--Where did you meet Mr. Smith –It was in the restaurant where we used to have lunch. 你在哪里碰到史密斯的？是在我们以前常常去吃午饭的那个餐馆。（where引导的定语从句）
【比较3】强调句与状语从句的比较
■状语从句句首的It本身就是句子的主语；而强调句首的It不作任何成分也没有实际意义。
■状语从句的连接副词that及句子前面的It be不能去掉。
■状语从句的引导词可以是when / where，而强调句型中的that不能用其他词代替。如：
【例】It is such an interesting book that we all like it very much. 它是一本如此有趣的书，我们大家都非常喜欢。(结果状语主从复合句)
It is such an interesting book that we all like very much. 我们大家都非常喜欢的就是一本如此有趣的书。(强调such an interesting book)

It was the next morning that he woke up. 就在第二天早晨他醒来了。(强调the next morning)
