二 教学设计
Analysis of the teaching material( 教材分析):
The reading material of this unit is an informal letter about Toby’s travel plan with his brother. In the letter, Toby describes his trip to Africa in the coming summer holiday. A general introduction about their route in Africa and adventure activities are presented. Equipped with background information about Africa, students are expected not only to grasp the main idea of the letter but also to improve their reading abilities , their creative, comprehensive and consolidating abilities as well.
Teaching objects( 教学对象): Students of Senior 1
Teaching Aims(教学目的)
1.Knowledge and Skills (知识和技能目的):
1). Train the students’ reading ability
2). Get the students to know the main idea of the text.
3). Develop the students’ creative, comprehensive and consolidating abilities.
2.Cultural senses(文化意识目的):
1). Help the students to know some beautiful scenery of different places in the world.
2). Help the students to know something about Africa.
3. Emotion and Values (情感及价值目的) :
Develop the students’ feeling of beauty and love of life and our hometown while
enjoying the nice mountains and rivers in the world.
Teaching Important Points(教学重点):
Develop the students’ reading ability.
Teaching Difficult Points(教学难点):
1. How to make the students understand the passage better.
2. How to help the students finish the exercises.
3. How to help the students develop their creative, comprehensive and consolidating abilities.

1. Fast-reading method to get the general idea of the passage.
2. Careful-reading method to get the detailed information in the text.
3. Discussion after reading to help the students finish the tasks.
4. Acting to develop the students’ creative, comprehensive and consolidating abilities.

Teaching Procedures(教学步骤)
Step 1 Duty report: please say something about your most unforgettable travelling experience.(3-4 minutes)
(设计意图:通过值日报告引出本节课的主题——旅游。)
Step 2 Lead- in (导入(1 minute)
Nowadays, travelling is becoming more and more popular .Some of them even go abroad. Today we’ll go to a beautiful place.
Step3 Pre-reading (阅读前准备) (4-5 minutes)
Present some pictures about Africa to the students and encourage them to express their impression on Africa.
(设计意图:呈现与阅读文章相关的图片自然、直观地让学生了解课文的相关内容,激发学生进一步学习探索的兴趣和欲望,为下面的阅读理解提供相应的背景知识并做好铺垫。)
Step 4 Fast reading(6-7 minutes)
A. Scanning
Scan the letter and answer the questions of Part A.
1. Who wrote the following letter
Toby.
2. What animal is uncomfortable to sit on
Camels.
3. How long will the author stay in Africa
About four weeks.

B. Skimming
1. Skim the whole text to find out the destinations of the adventure and finish EXC2 of P24.
Put the activities in the correct order.

2. Tell the five sentences true or false according to the text
1. Toby leaves London on 15th July and they will go to Morocco by train .
2. The Sahara Desert is the biggest desert in the world and it is twice the size of the US.
3. They will wear special clothing , a helmet and a life jacket to go white-water rafting .
4. Toby wants to see a giraffe up close but Colin wants to see an elephant.
5. Mountain climbing can be very tiring, and many people feel sick as the air gets thinner .

Step 5 Careful reading and do exercises(精读)(11-12 minutes)

Step 6 Post reading :Retelling the route of traveling (读后讨论复述)(4-5 minutes)
Let the students talk about the route of traveling with the help of pictures.
(设计意图)训练学生用简洁的语言复述课文,以培养学生的概括和口头表达能力。
Step 7 Discussion and acting ( Group work)(about 10 minutes)
Show the short video of Mount Lang to students .
It’s so beautiful that many people have come to Xinning to visit Mount Lang.
If you are Aihua , your friend, Toby wants to come to Mount Lang in Xinning .How do you design Aihua’s travelling plan

Step 8. Assignment (课后作业)(1 minute)
1. Review the reading passage.
2. Finish A1-B2 on page 94-95.
3. Finish Reading on page 98.
