Teaching Aims:
1.Check and enhance students’ reading abilities.
2.Train Ss to gain an overall understanding of the article and learn to adopt different reading strategies.
3. Improve the students’ reading comprehension.
Teaching difficulty:
How to read an interview.
Teaching important points:
Help Ss know something about Sang Lan.
Help them learn something about “happiness”.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Warm-up (5 minutes)
Paly an English song “If you are happy ” to let the Ss warm up.
(The teacher can clap the hands with the Ss)
Then ask the Ss “ What is happiness to you to lead in the topic.
( The teacher can tell the Ss “ What is happiness to him or her )
The Ss can say something about his or her happiness in Chinese or English。
[设计意图] 通过一首学生耳熟能详的歌曲让学生活跃起来在老师的参与和引导之下,运用提问的方式,使学生了解体会什么是幸福,为教学的下一步展开做好铺垫,同时激发学生学习热情)
Step 2. Lead in( 3 minutes)
Show some pictures of Sang Lan and say something about Sang Lan.
Encourage the students to share their information they have already know and to express their opinions freely..
[设计意图] 通过图片让学生了解桑兰,为教学的下一步展开做好铺垫,同时更进一步激发学生的学习热情)
Step3. Reading (20 minutes)
1. Ask Ss to skim the first paragraph to find out “ what is happiness ”
To some happiness is being sorrounded by family and friends. To others happioness is ….
2. Ask Ss to skim the rest of the interview quickly and answer the questions .
1). What is the name of the psycholigist
2). Who is being interviewed What is she
3).
When and where was Sang Lan born
3. Ask Ss to read the interview for the detailed information
1).Why Sang Lan was used as an example
2). How does Sang Lan find happiness now
3). What’s Sang Lan’s best event
4). When and where did Sang Lan hurt herself And how did she get hurt
5). Was she sad when staying in hospital
[设计意图] 通过让学生分步阅读全文,逐步掌握全文大意和文章的主要话题,体会什么是幸福。提高学生的阅读解题和表达能力,增强学生语感。
Step 4. Practice.( 7 minutes)
Divid tha Ss into 8 groups of seven and have a competition. Let the Ss to answer the questions of Part C1 oroally.
设计意图:通过口头强大的形式,是学生更进一步熟悉文章内容,并能口头表达。强化学生的口头表达能力,增强合作意识。
Step 5. Homework.
1.Get the Ss to recite the beautiful sentences in text
2.Finish Parts A & B in Page 112 and 113.
Feedback:
Reading is very important for helping students to improve the reading and speaking abilities. When teaching it, on the one hand, teacher should give students some useful background information; on the other hand, teachers should guide students to master the methods of English text reading. At the same time, the teacher should add some extra but useful questions to expand the students’ knownedge.
