I
usually

I

I

W:
This
is
the
third

you've
been
late
this
week,
Robert.
You'll
have
to
do
better
than
that,
or
I
might
find
it
necessary
to
let
you
go.
M:
It
won't
happen
again.
I
promise.

M:
I
want

Also,

W:
I'll

on
the

M:
Well,
the
ad
says
that
it
has
four
bedrooms
and
three
baths,
just
what
I
need
for
my
family
of
six.
May
I
ask
how
much
you
want
for
it
W:
I
prefer
not
to
talk
about
it
over
the
phone,
but
let's
say
it's
$50,000.
But
you
should
pay
me
$10,000
first.
Why
don't
you
come
by
and
take
a
look
M:
Well,
I'm
not
sure
I
could
pay
you
such
a
large
sum
of
money
right
now,
but
I
would
like
to

If
you

South
Florida

my

and
I'll
be
over.

W:
Let's
go
to
the

at
the

M:
Better
not.
The
last
time
I
was
there
it
was
so
crowded
that
I
had
to
wait
in
line
for
almost
an
hour.
W:
Really
Let's
go
somewhere
else
then.
It
can't
be
too
long
because
I
have
a
test
at
three
o'clock.
M:
Okay.
Let's
go
to
the
library.
There's
another
machine
downstairs
by
the

W:
When
did
you
become
interested
in
collecting
stamps
M:
Oh,
when
I
was
about
ten
years
old.
It's
an
exciting
hobby.
You
know,
the
first
postage
stamps
were
issued
in
Britain
in
1840.
W:
Really
I
didn't
know
that.
I
did
know
that
the
charge
for
mail
delivery
was
paid
by
either
the
sender
or
the
receiver.
How
much
was
the
usual
charge
M:
Oh,
about
ten
cents
for
a
short
distance.
But
post
offices
were
losing
money
with
that
system.
Rowland
Hill,
an
Englishman,
suggested
using
postage
stamps.
Here's
a
picture
of
the
first
two
stamps
issued.
W:
They
both
bear
a
picture
of
Queen
Victoria.
M:
Yes,
I
wish
I
had
the
originals.
I
would
be
a
wealthy
man
instead
of
a
poor
stamp
collector.

M:
Hey,
Michelle.
Look
what
I
just
found.
Right
here
in
the
sand.
W:
A
piece
of
wood
Oh.
Driftwood,
interesting
shape,
almost
like
some
sort
of
modern
sculpture.
M:
Yeah.
And
feel
how
smooth
it
is.
W:
Hmm.
Must've
been
in
the
water
a
long
time.
It
could've
been
drifting
in
the
ocean
movement
for
months,
or
even
years.
M:
In
the
ocean
movement
Doesn't
the
wind
just
blow
things
around
out
there
W:
Well,
sure.
But
the
ocean
water
is
always
moving
too.
Almost
like
rivers,
but
underwater
rivers,
flowing
through
the
ocean.
M:
So
how
do
scientists
find
out
where
ocean
water
goes
Stick
a
message
in
a
bottle
and
throw
it
in
the
water
W:
Don't
laugh.
In
fact,
I
was
reading
in
a
science
magazine
that
scientists
have
put
huge
numbers
of
bottles
into
the
ocean
over
the
years.
They
wanted
to
map
out
where
the
ocean
water
would
carry
them.
M:
Say,
I'm
sure
after
they
found
out
where
all
those
bottles
ended
up,
they
could
enter
all
that
data
into
a
computer
and
make
a
pretty
detailed
model
to
show
where
the
ocean
water
goes.
W:
In
fact,
they
did.

Nowadays,
rugby
is
more
than
just
a
different
way
of
playing
football.
But
over
a
hundred
years
ago,
it
was
“invented”
by
a
schoolboy
playing
in
a
football
team.
This
boy
wanted
to
score
a
goal,
so
he
picked
up
the
ball
and
ran
up
the
pitch.
Then
he
put
the
ball
down
between
the
goal
posts.
The
boy
was
a
pupil
at
Rugby
school,
so
ever
since
then
the
game
has
been
called
rugby:
Let
me
explain
some
of
the
rules
of
the
game.
There
are
fifteen
men
in
a
rugby
team.
In
football
you
may
only
kick
the
ball;
the
ball
is
completely
round.
A
rugby
ball
is
not
round.
This
makes
the
ball
easier
to
hold,
because
you
must
run
with
the
ball
in
your
hands.
Each
side
tries
to
carry
the
ball
to
the
other
team's
end
of
the
pitch
and
places
it
on
the
ground.
If
a
player
can
do
this
without
the
other
side
stopping
him,
he
scores
a
“try”,
which
is
worth
four
points.
The
player
can
then
attempt
to
kick
the
ball
between
the
goalposts
and
score
two
more
points.
If
a
team
breaks
the
rules
then
the
other
side
can
take
a
free
kick
at
their
goal,
and
it
counts
as
three
points.
Every
your
England,
Wales,
Ireland,
Scotland
and
France
play
each
other
at
rugby
in
a
championship.
However,
the
best
team
in
the
world
comes
from
New
Zealand.
The
team
is
called
the
“All
Blacks”
because
the
players
wear
black
shirts,
shorts
and
socks.
Rugby
is
popular
all
over
the
world.
Although
rugby
is
a
rougher
game
than
football,
the
players
are
friendly,
but
that
is
after
the
game
is
over!

saw
the

a
bag

we
walked

and
unloading
their

all
our

my

then.I
can
buy
some

browse(浏览)
around
the
other
shops
and
department
stores
where
I
can
indulge(使沉迷)
myself
with
some
nice
things.Chinatown
is
located
in
the
heart
of
central
London,where
you
can
find
tons
of

for

I

people

and

their
goods.

most
drivers
stop
their
vehicles
in

the
road.

答案:D
C
Zinc(锌)
is
one
of
about
20
elements(元素)
necessary
for
good
health.
It
is
present
in
the
body
in
a
very
small
amount,
but
it
makes
it
possible
for
important
chemical
actions
to
be
carried
out
in
cells.
Scientists
are
just
beginning
to
discover
how
zinc
and
other
elements
work.
Researchers
first
studied
zinc
as
a
way
to
speed
recovery.
Dr.
Waltor
Powys
formerly
with
the
United
States
Air
Force,
noted
that
the
laboratory
animals
recovered
faster
when
some
matters
were
added
to
their
food.
One
of
these
matters
was
zinc.
Dr.
Powys
later
tested
the
zinc
treatment
on
an
American
airman
recovering
from
medical
operations.
The
airman
who
received
zinc
sulphate(硫酸锌)
recovered
in
half
of
the
usual
time.
Other
doctors
studied
persons
who
had
a
number
of
strange
disorders.
The
doctors
learned
that
all
of
these
problems
were
caused
by
lack
of
zinc
in
the
body.
They
treated
these
disorders
successfully
by
giving
the
patients
zinc
sulphate.
The
amount
of
zinc
in
the
body
can
be
found
by
examining
blood
and
hair.
A
lack
of
this
important
element
is
not
uncommon
among
people
in
both
industrial
and
developing
countries.
Zinc
is
found
in
most
high
protein(蛋白质)
foods
such
as
meat,
milk,
fish
and
eggs.
It
is
also
found
in
whole
grains.
But
many
people
do
not
eat
enough
of
these
food.
Food
markets
should
add
these
elements
so
that
more
people
could
get
needed
amount
of
these
necessary
matters.
28.One
of
the
functions
of
zinc
is
that
it
can
________.
A.make
people's
bones
stronger
B.help
people
recover
faster
C.be
good
for
people's
memory
D.change
people's
sleep
for
the
better
29.How
can
the
amount
of
zinc
in
the
body
found
A.by
examining
blood
and
hair.
B.by
checking
tears
and
sweat.
C.by
taking
people's
temperatures.
D.by
testing
people's
blood
pressure.
30.To
get
enough
zinc,
people
should
eat
foods
that
contain
________.
A.a
lot
of
fibre
B.high
fat
C.much
protein
D.many
vitamins
31.Which
of
the
following
statements
is
true
A.People
need
a
large
amount
of
zinc
to
be
healthy.
B.Zinc
must
be
used
in
the
course
of
medical
operation.
C.Zinc
allows
important
chemical
actions
to
take
place
in
cells.
D.Scientists
added
only
zinc
to
the
foods
that
the
laboratory
animals
ate.

Late
that
afternoon
I
took
the
train
back
to
Sydney.
There
I
found
another
surprise
waiting
for
me.
My
room
at
the
hotel
had
been
given
to
somebody
else
and
they
had
no
room
for
me.
Harkin
had
known
my
travel
plans
and
had
planned
everything.
How
could
he
have
booked
the
room
only
for
three
days
There
was
nothing
to
be
done
but
to
find
another
hotel.
The
waiters
were
happy
to
find
me
a
new
hotel,
and
when
I
said
that
I
was
happy
to
stay
at
the
airport,
thinking
it
might
be
cheaper
than
staying
in
the
city,
they
suggested
the
Holiday
Inn
at
the
airport.
There
was
one
small
matter:
the
room
rate
was
$300
per
night.
The
best
hotel
in
Katoomba
had
wanted
only
$145.
I
asked
if
there
was
anything
cheaper
they
might
suggest
but
they
warned
that
most
hotels
would
already
be
full
by
this
time.
The
hotel
was
far
from
the
train
station,
so
I
had
to
take
a
taxi,
at
$25.
On
the
way
to
the
Holiday
Inn,
we
passed
a
hotel
just
two
blocks
from
the
Holiday
Inn
that
advertised
a
room
rate
of
$104.
At
the
desk
I
asked
if
their
room
rate
could
go
down
a
lot.
“No,
this
is
a
4-star
hotel,”
the
waiter
told
me.
“In
that
case,”
I
replied,
“I'll
just
walk
the
two
blocks
to
the
cheap
hotel.”
But
she
warned
me
that
they
were
probably
full
and
that
if
I
didn't
take
the
room,
it
might
not
be
available
when
I
came
back.
Finally,
I
decided
to
take
the
room.
The
room
itself
was
big,
but
the
air
conditioning
couldn't
keep
up
with
the
Australian
heat.
I
couldn't
get
to
sleep
until
about
1:00
a.m..
