Ⅲ.阅读理解
A
The
koala
is
Australia's
second
most
famous
animal.This
gentle,
slow moving
animal
has
lived
in
the
forests
of
Australia
for
over
half
a
million
years.In
the
first
quarter
of
the
century,
early
settlers
killed
about
ten
million
koalas
for
their
fur.Today,
the
koala
is
strictly
protected.
Gum
leaves
are
the
koala's
only
food.And
instead
of
a
tail
the
animal
has
a
pad
that
enables
it
to
sit
comfortably
for
hours
in
the
fork
of
a
gum
tree.
The
Aborigines
named
this
animal
koala
meaning
“I
don't
drink”.The
gum
leaves
supply
all
the
moisture
it
requires.So
Koala
is
an
aboriginal
word.
The
koala
lives
in
trees
in
forests.It
doesn't
eat
any
meat
and
it
doesn't
drink
any
water.The
koala
is
active
at
night
and
during
the
day
it
sleeps
in
the
fork
of
a
tree.The
koala
has
long
arms
and
sharp
curved
claws
for
climbing
trees
and
for
grasping
branches.It
has
a
large
hairless
nose
and
it
hasn't
got
a
tail.
The
koala
usually
has
only
one
baby
a
year.At
birth
the
baby
is
very
small.At
first
it
cannot
see
and
it
hasn't
got
any
fur.The
female
koala
has
a
pouch
on
her
stomach.Inside
this
pouch
the
mother
produces
milk
for
her
baby.The
baby
stays
in
its
mother's
pouch
until
it
is
about
six
months
old.Then
it
clings
to
its
mother's
back
for
another
six
months.After
this
the
young
koala
starts
to
live
a
solitary
(单独的)
life.

a
half
old
C.six
months
old
D.three
years
old
解析:选C 细节理解题。从短文中最后一段倒数第三句可知答案。
B
Everyone
looks
forward
to
progress,
whether
in
one's
personal
life
or
in
the
general
society.Progress
indicates
a
person's
ability
to
change
the
way
he
is
living
at
the
moment.Progress
must
lead
to
a
better
life
and
a
better
way
of
doing
things.All
these,
however,
remain
true
only
in
so
far
as
people
want
to
accept
technology
and
move
forward
by
finding
new
and
more
efficient
ways
of
doing
things.
However,
at
the
back
of
the
minds
of
many
people,
especially
those
who
miss
the
“good
old
days”,
efficiency
comes
with
a
price.When
communication
becomes
more
efficient,
people
are
able
to
contact
one
another
no
matter
where
they
are
and
at
whatever
time
they
wish
to.The
click
of
a
button
allows
people
miles
apart
to
talk
or
see
each
other
without
even
leaving
their
homes.With
the
communication
gadgets,_such
as
mobile
phones
and
ipads,
people
often
do
not
take
the
effort
to
visit
one
another
personally.A
personal
visit
carries
with
it
the
additional
feature
of
having
to
be
in
the
person's
presence
for
as
long
as
the
visit
lasts.We
cannot
unnecessarily
excuse
ourselves
or
turn
the
other
person
off.
With
efficiency
also
comes
mass
production.Such
is
the
nature
of
factories
and
the
success
of
industrialization
today.Factories
have
improved
efficiency.Unskillful
tasks
are
left
to
machines
and
products
are
better
made
and
produced
with
greater
accuracy
than
any
human
hand
could
ever
have
done.However,
with
the
improvements
in
efficiency
also
comes
the
loss
of
the
personal
touch
when
making
these
products.For
example,
many
handicrafts
(手工艺品)
are
now
produced
in
a
factory.
Although
this
means
that
supply
is
better
able
to
increase
demand,
now
that
the
supply
is
quick
and
efficient,
the
demand
might
fall
because
mass
production
lowers
the
quality
of
the
handicraft
and
it
is
difficult
to
find
unique
designs
on
each
item.
Nevertheless,
we
must
not
commit
the
mistake
of
analyzing
progress
only
from
one
point
of
view.In
fact,
progress
has
allowed
tradition
to
keep
up.It
is
only
with
progress
and
the
invention
of
new
technology
that
many
old
products
can
be
brought
back
to
their
old
state.New
technology
is
required
for
old
products
to
stay
old.
It
is
people's
attitude
towards
progress
that
causes
the
type
of
influence
that
technology
has
on
society.Technology
is
flexible.There
is
no
fixed
way
of
making
use
of
it.Everything
depends
on
people's
attitude.The
worst
effects
of
progress
will
fall
on
those
who
are
unable
to
rethink
their
attitudes
and
views
of
society.When
we
accept
progress
and
adapt
it
to
suit
our
needs,
a
new
“past”
is
created.

1.A.poor

families不需要关注生存问题,而读上、下文可知文章不只是关注poor
families的儿童。

B.for
C.beyond
D.through
解析:选C that指代上文的survival,结合下文可知用beyond“除……之外”。
3.A.supported
B.received
C.encouraged
D.valued
解析:选D 根据上下文,孩子自身的价值通过其生产能力体现出来。be
valued“被……估价,价值体现在……”,符合文意。be
supported被支持;be
received被接受;be
encouraged被鼓励,均不符合题意。
4.A.Until

解析:选B 根据句意以及第二段第二句话中的many
other
members,可知选B项。

B.However
C.Instead
D.Therefore
解析:选D 上下文是因果关系,故选D项。

in“吸收,欺骗”均不符合题意。

解析:选A 由上句可推出,人们花很多时间是去寻求抚养孩子的合适、恰当的方法。seek寻求。

Ⅲ.阅读理解
Perhaps
you
think
you
could
easily
add
to
your
happiness
with
more
money.Strange
as
it
may
seem,
if
you're
unsatisfied,
the
issue
is
not
a
lack
of
means
to
meet
your
desires
but
a
lack
of
desires

not
that
you
cannot
satisfy
your
tastes
but
that
you
don't
have
enough
tastes.
Real
riches
consist
of
well developed
and
hearty
capacities
to
enjoy
life.Most
people
are
already
swamped
(淹没)
with
things.They
eat,
wear,
go
and
talk
too
much.They_live_in_too_big_a_house_with_too_many_rooms,_yet_their_house_of_life_is_a_hut.
Your
house
of
life
ought
to
be
a
mansion
(豪宅),
a
royal
palace.Every
new
taste,
every
additional
interest,
every
fresh
enthusiasm
adds
a
room.Here
are
several
rooms
your
house
of
life
should
have.
Art
should
be
a
desire
for
you
to
develop
simply
because
the
world
is
full
of
beautiful
things.If
you
only
understood
how
to
enjoy
them
and
feed
your
spirit
on
them,
they
would
make
you
as
happy
as
to
find
plenty
of
ham
and
eggs
when
you're
hungry.
Literature,
classic
literature,
is
a
beautiful,
richly
furnished
room
where
you
might
find
many
an
hour
of
rest
and
refreshment.To
gain
that
love
would
go
toward
making
you
a
rich
person,
for
a
rich
person
is
not
someone
who
has
a
library
but
who
likes
a
library.
Music
like
Mozart's
and
Bach's
shouldn't
be
absent.Real
riches
are
of
the
spirit.And
when
you've
brought
that
spirit
up
to
where
classical
music
feeds
it
and
makes
you
a
little
drunk,
you
have
increased
your
thrills
and
bettered
them.And
life
is
a
matter
of
thrills.
Sports,
without
which
you
remain
poor,
mean
a
lot
in
life.No
matter
who
you
are,
you
would
be
more
human,
and
your
house
of
life
would
be
better
supported
against
the
bad
days,
if
you
could,
and
did,
play
a
bit.
Whatever
rooms
you
might
add
to
your
house
of
life,
the
secret
of
enjoying
life
is
to
keep
adding.

Ⅴ.阅读理解
A
Australia,
the
last
continent,
was
discovered
by
ships
belonging
to
some
European
nations
in
the
seventeenth
century.These
nations
were
less
interested
in
changing
it
into
a
colony
than
in
exploring
it.As
in
the
early
history
of
the
United
States,
it
was
the
English
who
set
up
the
settlements
in
Australia.This
history
and
geography
of
these
two
British
colonies
have
some
other
things
in
common
as
well.
Australia
and
the
United
States
are
about
the
same
in
size,
and
their
western
lands
are
both
not
rich
in
soil.It
was
the
eastern
coast
of
Australia
and
America
that
the
English
first
settled,
and
both
colonies
soon
began
to
develop
towards
the
west.However,
this
westward
movement
took
place
more
because
the
English
were
searching
for
better
land
than
because
the
population
was
increasing.Settlements
of
the
western
part
of
both
countries
developed
quickly
after
gold
was
discovered
in
America
in
1849
and
in
Australia
two
years
later.
Although
the
development
of
these
two
countries
has
a
lot
in
common,
there
are
some
unusual
differences
as
well.The
United
States
got
its
freedom
from
England
by
revolution
while
Australia
won
its
independence
without
having
to
go
to
war.Australia,
unlike
the
United
States,
was
firstly
turned
into
a
colony
by
English
prisoners
and
its
economic
development
was
in
the
wheat
growing
and
sheep
raising.By
1922,
for
example,
Australia
had
fifteen
times
more
sheep
than
it
had
people
or
almost
half
as
many
sheep
as
there
are
people
today
in
the
United
States.Yet,
in
spite
of
these
and
other
differences,
Australia
and
the
United
States
have
more
in
common
with
each
other
than
either
one
has
with
most
of
the
rest
of
the
world.
1.Who

B.there

C.the

of
the
United

means________.
A.the
United

do
not
have
any
main
differences
B.the
United

D.in

解析:选B 句意理解题。作者讲述了美国和澳大利亚的异同之后,得出结论:它们两国之间的共同之处要比它们任何一方与世界其他国家多。故B项意思最相符。
B
Can
dogs
and
cats
live
in
perfect
harmony
in
the
same
home
People
who
are
thinking
about
adopting
a
dog
as
a
friend
for
their
cats
are
worried
that
they
will
fight.
A
recent
research
has
found
a
new
recipe
for
success.
According
to
the
study,
if
the
cat
is
adopted
before
the
dog,
and
if
they
are
introduced
when
still
young
(less
than
6
months
for
cats,
a
year
for
dogs),
it
is
highly
probable
that
the
two
pets
will
get
along
swimmingly.
Two thirds
of
the
homes
interviewed
reported
a
positive
relationship
between
their
cat
and
dog.
However,
it
wasn’t
all
sweetness
and
light.
There
was
a
reported
coldness
between
the
cat
and
dog
in
25%
of
the
homes,
while
aggression
and
fighting
were
observed
in
10%
of
the
homes.
One
reason
for
this
is
probably
that
some
of
their
body
signals
are
just
opposite.
For
example,
when
a
cat
turns
its
head
away
it
signals
aggression,
while
a
dog
doing
the
same
signals
submission.
In
homes
with
cats
and
dogs
living
peacefully,
researchers
observed
a
surprising
behavior.
They
are
learning
how
to
talk
each
other’s
language.
It
is
a
surprise
that
cats
can
learn
how
to
talk
“Dog”,
and
dogs
can
learn
how
to
talk
“Cat”.
What’s
interesting
is
that
both
cats
and
dogs
have
appeared
to
develop
their
intelligence.
They
can
learn
how
to
read
each
other’s
body
signals,
suggesting
that
the
two
may
have
more
in
common
than
was
previously
suspected.
Once
familiar
with
each
other’s
presence
and
body
language,
cats
and
dogs
can
play
together,
greet
each
other
nose
to
nose,
and
enjoy
sleeping
together
on
the
sofa.
They
can
easily
share
the
same
water
bowl
and
in
some
cases
groom
(梳理)
each
other.
The
significance
of
this
research
on
cats
and
dogs
may
go
beyond
pets

to
people
who
don’t
get
along,
including
neighbors,
colleagues
at
work,
and
even
world
superpowers.
If
cats
and
dogs
can
learn
to
get
along,
surely
people
have
a
good
chance.
语篇解读:人们一般认为在同一家庭中,狗与猫之间因为种种原因难以和谐相处,即使可以的话也只占极少部分。然而最近一项科学研究却对这种看法提出了挑战,研究结果发现猫与狗之间存在着交流与学习。它们彼此互相学习各自的语言、深化认识,有助于促进相互间和平共处。既然动物之间都可以这样主动改善关系,更何况我们人类呢?
5.The
underlined
word
“swimmingly”
in
Paragraph
1
is
closest
in
meaning
to
“________”.
A.early
 B.sweetly
C.quickly
D.smoothly
解析:选D 词义猜测题。首段第一、二句就暗示人们普遍认为狗和猫是不能和谐相处的,而后面的研究与前面内容形成对比:如果采取适当的措施,猫与狗之间是可以和平相处的,因而“swimmingly”应该是“顺利地;轻易地”之意。A、C两项有悖常识;B项意为“甜蜜地;亲切地”,程度过深,不合常理;D项smoothly意为“平稳地;顺利地”,切合题意。
6.What
is
found
surprising
about
cats
and
dogs
A.They
eat
and
sleep
together.
B.They
observe
each
other’s
behaviors.
C.They
learn
to
speak
each
other’s
language.
D.They
know
something
from
each
other’s
voices.
解析:选C 细节理解题。从第三段“researchers
observed
a
surprising
behavior.
They
are
learning
how
to
talk
each
other’s
language”得知这个令人吃惊的发现便是猫与狗竟然能够互相学习对方的语言。
7.It
is
suggested
in
Paragraph
4
that
cats
and
dogs
________.
A.have
common
interests
B.are
less
different
than
thought
C.have
a
common
body
language
D.are
less
intelligent
than
expected
解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第四段可知事实上猫与狗之间存在更多的共同点,它们并没有我们想象中的那么格格不入。
8.What
can
we
human
beings
learn
from
cats
and
dogs
A.We
should
learn
to
live
in
harmony.
B.We
should
know
more
about
animals.
C.We
should
live
in
peace
with
animals.
D.We
should
learn
more
body
languages.
解析:选A 推理判断题。细读最后一段内容我们可以发现作者提出了反问:既然动物都可以学着和谐共存,更何况是技高一筹的人类?因而,通过猫与狗的研究可以得出我们人类应该学会和谐相处。
