The
first
American
President,
George
Washington,
worked
with
the
city
planner
Pierre
L’Enfant
to
choose
the
land
for
the
new
presidential
home.
A
competition
was
held
to
find
a
building
designer.
Nine
plans
were
considered,
and
the
architect
James
Hoban
won.
Construction
began
in
1792.The
first
president
to
live
there
was
John
Adams.
He
and
his
wife
Abigail
moved
into
the
White
House
in
1800.
During
the
war
of
1812,
British
troops
burned
most
of
the
inside
of
the
White
House.
James
Hoban
helped
rebuild
it.
Over
the
years,
each
president
has
made
changes
or
additions
to
the
building.
The
White
House
walls
are
made
of
stone
that
is
painted
white.
But
the
famous
building
has
had
other
names
over
time,
including
the
President's
House
and
the
Executive
Mansion.
In
the
early
1900s,
President
Theodore
Roosevelt
made
the
White
House
its
official
name.
In
the
1930s,
President
Franklin
Roosevelt
decided
to
rebuild
and
expand
part
of
the
building
that
became
known
as
the
West
Wing.
Some
of
the
public
rooms
in
the
White
House
are
named
colors.
There
is
the
Blue
Room,
the
Green
Room
and
the
Red
Room.
第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
It
had
been
a
hot
day
and
the
beach
was
packed
all
day
with
people
enjoying
the
sun
and
surf.
Normally
our
beach
is
well
protected
so
that
it's
a
great
family
swimming
beach.
But
when
ocean
waves
come
up,
like
any
beach,
conditions
become
dangerous.
The
sun
was
setting
in
the
west
and
we
were
getting
ready
to
pack
up.
Just
then
the
wind
started
and
was
blowing
across
the
sand.
My
Captain
Allan
saw
some
swimmers
in
trouble,
telling
me
to
go
and
help.
And
I'm
just
15
years
old.
It
was
going
to
be
a
memorable
day.
When
I
got
to
the
swimmers,
I
realized
there
were
three
people
in
trouble.
All
were
teenagers,
three
boys.
I
was
a
little
scared
(害怕)
because
they
were
older
than
me.
All
the
thoughts
of
people
almost
drowning
their
rescuers
that
we
learned
in
training
came
flooding
back
to
me.
Often
when
a
swimmer
is
in
trouble
and
when
you
go
to
assist
them,
they
do
whatever
they
can
to
get
out
of
the
water—including
climbing
on
top
of
you—when
they
are
in
panic.
I
yelled
out
to
the
boy
close
to
me,
telling
him
that
I
was
a
qualified
surf
lifesaver.
“Do
you
need
my
help?”
I
shouted,
thinking
they
might
not
want
me
because
they
might
think
I
was
too
young
or
not
strong
enough
to
save
them.
“Yes,
please!”
was
their
immediate
response.
That
put
my
mind
at
ease—I
knew
it
didn't
matter
to
them
who
was
rescuing
them.
I
was
a
surf
lifesaver
and
I
was
going
to
get
them
back
to
shore.
I
signaled
to
shore
that
I
needed
assistance,
and
two
other
lifesavers
came
out.
Together
we
got
the
three
tired
and
panicked
swimmers
back
to
shore.
It
was
a
pretty
amazing
feeling.
On
that
day,
I
was
just
so
proud
to
be
a
surf
lifesaver.

rising
from
a

above
the

vapour
also
gets
into

air
from
living
things.Trees

take

water
through
their

and
give
off
water

all
these
ways
the

it
gathers

condenses
to
form
rain.The
rain
falls
to
earth,and
the
cycle
starts
again.It
continues
even
if
snow

hail(冰雹)
fall
instead
because
both
eventually
melt

When
a
storm
is
coming,most
people
leave
the
area
as
quickly
as
possible
and
head
for
safety.But
there
are
a
few
people
who
will
get
into
their
cars
and
go
straight
for
the
center
of
the
storm.These
people
are
willing
to
risk(冒……危险)being
killed
by
floods
or
100 kilometer an hour
winds
for
the
excitement
of
watching
the
storm
close
up.
“Storm
chasing(追逐)”is
becoming
an
increasingly
popular
hobby(喜好),especially
in
the
Midwest
of
the
United
States,where
there
are
frequent
storms
between
March
and
July.A
storm
chaser
begins
the
day
by
checking
the
Internet
for
the
latest
weather
reports,and
then
drives
up
to
1,000
kilometers
to
where
the
storm
will
be
and
waits
for
it
to
develop.
Although
anyone
can
do
it,storm
chasing
is
extremely
dangerous.The
power
of
a
big
storm
can
throw
a
cow
into
the
air
or
destroy
a
whole
house
in
seconds.Storm
chasers
are
also
often
hurt
in
accidents
caused
by
driving
in
a
heavy
rain.If
you
are
a
beginner,it
is
much
safer
to
join
a
group
for
storm chasing
vacations
during
the
storm
season.
Even
then,storm
chasing
is
not
all
adventure
and
excitement.“Storm
chasing
is
95%
driving,”says
Daniel
Lynch,who
spends
most
of
his
summer
storm chasing.“Sometimes
you
can
sit
around
for
hours
waiting
for
something
to
happen,and
all
you
get
is
blue
sky
and
a
few
light
showers.”
However,for
storm
chasers,it
is
all
worth
it.“When
you
get
close
to
a
storm,it
is
the
most
exciting
sight
you
will
ever
see
in
your
life,”says
Jasper
Morley.“Every
storm
is
an
example
of
the
power
of
nature.It
is
the
greatest
show
on
the
Earth.”
32.For
storm
chasing,the
first
thing
storm
chasers
do
is
to________.
A.head
straight
for
the
center
of
the
storm
B.get
into
the
car
for
safety
C.wait
patiently
for
the
storm
to
develop
D.collect
information
about
a
coming
storm
33.Beginners
of
storm
chasing
are
advised________.
A.not
to
drive
in
a
heavy
rain
B.to
do
it
in
an
organized
way
C.not
to
get
too
close
to
a
storm
D.to
spend
more
time
on
it
in
summer
34.By
saying“it
is
all
worth
it”in
the
last
paragraph,the
author
means
that________.
A.storm
chasing
costs
a
lot
of
money
B.storm
chasing
is
worth
hours
of
waiting
C.efforts
in
storm
chasing
are
well
paid
D.a
storm
presents
the
greatest
show
on
Earth
35.What
can
we
learn
from
the
text
A.Sometimes
storm
chasers
get
nothing
but
disappointment.
B.Many
storm
chasers
get
killed
in
the
storms.
C.Storm
chasing
is
becoming
popular
around
the
world.
D.Storm
chasing
is
only
fit
for
young
people.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
__36__
They
have
school
friends,
work
friends,
sports
friends
and
neighbourhood
friends.
These
friendships
are
based
on
common
interests.
When
the
shared
activity
ends,
the
friendship
may
fade.
Because
American
society
is
one
of
rapid
changes,
American
friendships
develop
quickly.
People
from
the
United
States
may
at
first
seem
friendly.
__37__
They
exchange
information
about
their
families,
hobbies
and
work.
They
may
smile
warmly
and
say,
“Have
a
nice
day.”
or
“See
you
later.”
But
American
friendliness
is
not
always
an
offer
of
true
friendship.
So
we
should
learn
how
Americans
view
friendship
to
help
us
avoid
misunderstandings.
1.
Be
willing
to
take
the
first
step.
Don't
wait
for
them
to
approach
you.
Americans
in
another
country
may
not
know
you
can
speak
English.
They
may
be
embarrassed
if
they
can't
speak
your
language.
2.__38__
Ask
them
where
they're
from,
why
they
come
to
your
country,
etc.
Remember
to
be
careful
to
avoid
personal
questions
about
age,
salary
and
appearance.
3.Show
an
interest
in
their
culture,
their
country
or
their
job.
Americans
like
to
talk
about
themselves!
4.Invite
them
to
join
you
for
dinner
or
just
for
coffee
or
tea.
Try
to
set
a
specific
time.
Americans
sometimes
make
general
invitations
like
“Let's
get
together
sometime.”
Often
this
is
just
a
way
to
be
friendly.
__39__
5.__40__
Maybe
they're
just
being
friendly.
But
maybe
they
do
want
to
be
your
good
friends.
It
will
take
time
to
tell.
After
all,
there
are
some
differences
between
the
two
cultures.
A.Don't
expect
too
much
at
first.
B.It
is
not
always
a
real
invitation.
C.Use
small
talk
to
open
the
conversation.
D.Americans
often
chat
easily
with
strangers.
E.Don't
pay
a
visit
to
Americans
without
being
asked.
F.Americans
use
the
word
“friend”
in
a
very
general
way.
G.Americans
value
strong
life-long
friendships
with
non-Americans.

答案:
Dear_Peter,
I'm_glad_to_receive_your_letter_asking_for_my_advice_on_how_to_learn_Chinese_well.
Here
are
a
few
suggestions.
First,
it
is
important
to
take
a
Chinese
course,
as
you'll
be
able
to
learn
from
the
teacher
and
practice
with
your
fellow
students.
Then,
it
also
helps
to
watch
TV
and
read
books,
newspapers
and
magazines
in
Chinese
whenever
possible.
Besides,
it
should
be
a
good
idea
to
learn
and
sing
Chinese
songs,
because
by
doing
so
you'll
learn
and
remember
Chinese
words
more
easily.
You
can
also
make
more
Chinese
friends.
They
will
tell
you
a
lot
about
China
and
help
you
learn
Chinese.
Try
and
write
me
in
Chinese
next
time.
Best
wishes,
