第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)
第一节(共10个小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的
A、B、C、D
四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
On
a
warm
morning
last
summer,
bus
driver
Tim
Watson
was
about
halfway
through
his
daily
15-mile
route
from
Milpitas
to
Fremont
when
a
warning
from
the
Transportation
Authority
flashed
across
his
dashboard
(仪表盘)
screen.
The
message
read
a
three-year-old
child
had
been
kidnapped
(诱拐)
in
Milpitas,
and
it
asked
that
drivers
be
on
the
lookout
for
the
boy.
The
victim
was
described
as
a
three-year-old
child
in
shorts
and
red
shoes;
the
suspect,
a
man
in
his
20s
wearing
jeans
and
a
black
sweatshirt
and
carrying
a
brown
backpack.
Tim
felt
his
stomach
drop
when
he
realized
that
a
man
with
a
child
on
his
hip
had
boarded
the
bus
just
ten
minutes
earlier.
Tim
glanced
in
one
of
his
mirrors
and
saw
the
pair
sitting
in
the
last
seat
at
the
back
of
the
nearly
empty
bus.
Tim
radioed
the
bus
company.
“I
believe
I
have
the
kidnapping
suspect
on
my
bus,”
he
told
the
operator,
keeping
his
voice
low.
The
operator
directed
Tim
to
continue
to
his
final
stop
at
the
Fremont
BART
subway
station,
where
police
officers
would
be
waiting.
“As
I’m
driving,
all
I
can
think
about
is
what
I’m
going
to
do
if
I
get
there
before
the
police,”
he
says.
So
he
slowed
down,
rolling
along
at
35
mph
in
a
65
miles
per
hour
zone.
When
Tim
saw
from
the
side
mirrors
police
cars
pull
up
behind
the
bus
silently
but
with
red
lights
flashing,
he
stopped
the
bus
and
opened
the
doors.
As
the
man
got
off
the
bus
with
the
boy,
a
police
officer
grabbed
the
child
out
of
his
arms,
threw
the
suspect
to
the
ground,
and
pinned
him.
The
police
officers
told
Tim
that
about
an
hour
earlier,
the
man,
David,
23,
had
taken
the
boy
away
from
the
Milpitas
library
after
he
wandered
away
from
his
mother.

call
to
the
operator.
B. To drive below the speed limit.

meet the police at
the right time.

23. What
kind
of
person
is
Tim

B. Quick-minded.
C. Good-tempered.
D.
Knowledgeable.

An
allergy,
also
known
as
an
allergic
disease,
is
an
immune(免疫)
system
reaction
to
normally
harmless
things,
such
as
dust,
plants,
animals
or
certain
foods.
Symptoms
vary
depending
on
the
allergy.
Common
cold
symptoms
such
as low fever,
sneezing,
and a
sore
throat
may all
indicate
allergies.
What
causes
an
allergic
reaction
is
a
question
still
puzzling
scientists.
Types
of
allergies
have
greatly increased since the mid-20th century, leading some experts to suggest
the increased
environmental
pollution
is held responsible.
Some experts suggest that allergies are related
with
genes
(基因)
with
twins
being particularly
likely to share the
same problems. Often, an
allergic reaction will develop in
childhood,
but
since
many
reactions
are
likely
to
worsen
with
repeated exposure, symptoms can start
to
appear
at
any
age.
However, some people
may
overcome
childhood allergies
with
age
growing.
Testing for an allergy can be a tricky process, particularly if an allergic reaction could
threaten
the
victim’s
life. Doctors often use
a skin
test
method
for a variety
of possible
allergic
reactions.
In
skin
testing,
a
tiny amount of an allergen
(过敏原) is shot into a marked
place
of
skin to see if
the
skin
reacts
negatively.
If
serious
reactions are a concern,
doctors
can
also
use a blood
test,
although this
takes
more
time
and
may
be
less accurate than skin testing.
Treatment may depend on the type and severe
degree of the patient’s allergic response.
In
some
mild
cases, such as sneezing caused by animal
exposure,
patients
are
told
to
avoid
exposure
when
possible.
Avoiding the
food
is
also
key
with
many food allergies,
particularly
those that can cause
severe
responses.
When
avoiding
is
impossible, some doctors may
recommend shots.
This
intends
to
build up tolerance
(耐受力) in
the immune
system
by
exposing
the patient to increasing
small amounts
of
the
allergen
over
time.
24.
According
to
the
passage,
an
allergy________.
A.
is
usually
caused
by
foods
B.
disappears
with
age
growing
C.
may
show
various
symptoms
D.
harms
people’s
immune
system
The
testing
process
of
an
allergy
is
________.
A.
tough
B.
flexible
C.
easy
D.
accurate
26.
What
is
the
proper
way
to
prevent
an
allergy
A.
Use a
skin
test method.
B.
Give
victims
regular
shots.
C. Build
up
people’
bodies.
D.
Avoid
exposure
to
allergen.
C
In today’s
households where both parents go to work and kids have busy schedules with
school,
homework
and many afternoon activities, finding time for a gathering at the table
seems
all
but
impossible.
Yet,
studies have shown time and again that eating together has
multiple
benefits for
family
members,
especially
children.
According to reports issued by the National Center on Addiction and Substance
Abuse at
Columbia
University(CASA),
children who eat more
with their family are at lower risk of
developing
poor
eating
habits,
weight problems or alcohol dependencies.
They
tend to perform
better
academically
than those
who
frequently
eat alone. Family meals
came
into
American
life
in the mid-20th century.
In the
60’s and 70’s,
social,
economic
and
technological
changes
quickly
dissolved
the
short-lived
way
of
family
meals.
Restaurant
visits,
take-out
and
TV
dinners have
since
become the norm
(常态).
There are indications, however, that the old customs are coming back.
According
to the
latest CASA
reports,
59%
of surveyed families said they ate dinner together at least five times
a week,
a significant
increase
from 47% in 1998. Whatever drives this trend, it is a
development that
should
be
welcomed.
Eating together as a family is not just about food and nutrition. It is
about teaching them
how
to
become
members of their society and culture. Food has become so easily and
cheaply
available
that
we
no
longer
appreciate its
significance.
We have to rediscover its
importance
and its
value.
Sharing
a
meal
with
loved
ones should be considered a special event, which
can almost
take on the form of
a
ceremony,
as
it
was
practiced
by
our
ancestors
for
whom
finding food was
a constant struggle.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the simple act of eating at home surrounded by
family
may
make
children
more
virtuous or socially more responsible.
But
it
can
lay
the
groundwork for
a lot of things that
point
them in the right direction.
27.
What
does
the
underlined
sentence
suggest
A.
This
practice
of
family
meals
started
to
change.
B.
Dining
at

would

great
popularity.
C.
The
society
was
to
develop
at
a

D.
Americans
would

to

28.
What
is
the
writer’s
attitude
towards
eating
together
as
a
family
A.
Favorable.
B.
Disapproving.
C.
Reserved.
D.
Objective.
29.
From
the
passage
we
learn
our ancestors
possibly
_____.
A.
valued
the
education
of children
B.
liked
struggling
with
each

C.

about

D.

quite
different
from

As
far
as
I
can

there
are
several
aspects

When
Mum

we

us

we

we

to

a
vase.
The
next
day,
we
set
off
to
search
51
every
local
shop
until
we
found
a
good
copy.
When
we
52
home
in
silence,
we

Mum
and
Dad
with
what
we’d
bought.
Dad
54
out,
took
it
from
Greg

to

Lorena
parted
the
curtain
in
her
living
room
and
looked
out
onto
the
wet
street.
She
was
relieved
the
sunlight
appeared.
If
it
didn’t
stop
raining
it
would
ruin
her
day.
Her
mother
had
promised
to
drive
her
to
Fashion
Fair
if
it
were
sunny.
Lorena
was
desperate
to
go
there
because
she
had
to
replace
a
Nike
jacket.
Earlier
that
Wednesday
afternoon,
Eddie,
the
most
popular
seventh-grader,
had
given
Lorena
his
jacket
and
asked
her
to
keep
an
eye
as
he
would
play
basketball
in
a
hurry.
Lorena
was
quite
happy
to
be
of
help.
During
her
last
class,
the
biology
teacher
made
them
cut
apart
dead
frogs.
For
fear
of
getting
blood
on
Eddie’s
jacket,
Lorena
folded
it
and
placed
it
on
a
chair.
Then
she
took
the
knife
and
cut
the
skin
quickly.
She
felt
sick
opening
the
frog’s
belly.
When
the
bell
rang
Lorena
hurried
out
because
the
bus
she
caught
for
home
left
ten
minutes
after
school.
She
raced
to
board
the
bus
and
found
a
seat.
After
a
few
minutes
the
driver
started
the
engine
and
drove
away
when
Lorena
looked
out
of
the
window
and
saw
Eddie.
“The
jacket!”
she
screamed.
She
shot
from
her
seat
and
ran
up
to
the
driver.
“You’ve
got
to
stop!
I
forgot
Eddie’s
jacket!”
“Who’s
Eddie
I
don’t
know
no
Eddie,”
the
driver
said
crossly.
“Sit
down.”
All
that
evening
she
was
upset
and
blamed
her
biology
teacher
for
her
problem.
If
he
hadn’t
made
them
dissect(解剖)frogs,
she
wouldn’t
have
been
so
absent-minded.
The
next
day
Lorena
rushed
from
the
bus
to
the
biology
room.
The
jacket
was
not
there!
“How
can
I
ever
tell
Eddie ”
she
closed
her
eyes.
She
spent
most
of
her
break
and
lunch
period
in
the
rest
room,
brushing
her
hair
and
worrying.
On
Friday
she
stayed
home
to
avoid
Eddie.
She
told
her
mother
she
wanted
to
go
shopping
to
buy
her
a
gift
for
her
birthday,
which
was
the
next
week.
Actually,
she
wanted
to
buy
a
Nike
jacket
with
her
life
savings
at
Fashion
Fair.

just
want
to
relax.
I’ll
have
dinner
with
my
parents
and
then
watch
my
favourite
TV
show.
M:
Can
you
do
that
for
a
whole
week
W:
My
sister
Kate
told
me
there
would
be
a
movie
festival.
They
are
showing
many
old
and
new
movies
this
week.
We’ve
decided
to
go
to
the
movies
together.

M:
Hello!
I’m
calling
about
the
apartment
you
have
advertised
in
today’s
The
Daily
Mail.
W:
Yes.
I
will
have
a
trip,
so
the
house
will
be
empty
for
two
weeks.
M:
Great!
I’d
like
to
hire
a
short
period
of
time.
Two
weeks
is
just
enough.
Could
you
introduce
your
apartment
to
me
W:
Sure.
It’s
a
one-bedroom
apartment
with
a
big
balcony.
But
it
has
a
small
kitchen.
M:
That’s
just
my
cup
of
tea.
What’s
the
price
W:
$400
per
month.
You
need
only
to
pay
for
electricity,
for
gas
and
water
are
included.
And
you
can
use
the
parking
lot
free
of
charge.
M:
Sounds
good.
Then
I
can
save
some
money.
May
I
come
over
tomorrow
to
take
a
look
W:
Today
is
Wednesday.
How
about
the
day
after
tomorrow
I’ve
got
an
appointment
tomorrow.
M:
OK.

W:
Tim,
you’re
going
to
talk
about
your
project
on
How
to
Lead
a
Greener
Life.
Why
did
you
choose
that
subject
M:
Well,
we’d
learnt
a
lot
about
the
environment
in
our
science
lessons.
So,
I
decided
to
see
what
I
could
do
in
my
own
life,
rather
than
just
act
completely
helpless.
And
the
rest
of
my
family
would
be
interested.
W:
Did
you
find
it
easy
to
get
information
M:
Yeah,
I
discovered
there
were
lots
of
people
at
my
age
trying
to
be
green.
I’d
always
gone
to
school
by
car.
Catching
a
bus
would
be
better,
but
there’s
no
bus
where
we
live,
so
I’ve
gone
for
riding
my
bike
to
school
now.
W:
OK,
and
what
about
being
green
once
you’re
actually
at
school
M:
Well,
I
realized
that
although
all
school
paper
was
recycled
and
most
of
my
friends
used
both
sides
of
paper,
we
used
huge
quantities,
and
I
thought
we
should
cut
down.
And
then
it
came
to
me
that
we
should
be
sending
in
most
of
our
work
electronically.
I’m
going
to
recommend
it
to
our
teachers.
W:
And
what
about
the
school
cafeteria
M:
One
school
I’ve
read
about
has
meatless
Mondays.
It’s
good
to
use
local
produce
too.
That’s
something
our
school
already
does.
But
we
still
have
machines
with
bottled
milk,
water
and
juices
for
sale,
and
I
think
we
shouldn’t
have
them.

M:
This
is
SkyCam
News,
reporting
live
about
the
latest
traffic
condition.
For
those
of
you
heading
south
on
Highway
15,
expect
some
delays
around
the
215
crossroad.
Road
workers
are
making
repairs
on
the
left
lane,
so
drivers
should
be
prepared
to
turn
to
the
right
around
7200
meters
south.
For
those
who
head
north
on
Highway15,
everything
looks
good
until
you
reach
around
3300
meters
away.
A
small
car
accident,
perhaps
resulting
from
the
misty
weather
there,
has
traffic
backed
up
a
mile
or
so.
Also,
forecasters
predict
freezing
rain
later
into
the
night
and
early
morning
hours.
And
one
more
note,
the
low
temperatures
and
heavy
snow
in
the
mountains
have
forced
a
number
of
deer
down
into
Riverside
Park,
so
extreme
caution
should
be
taken
if
you
are
travelling
around
that
area.
And
that’s
all
from
SkyCam,
providing
you
with
traffic
updates
on
the
hour.
