It
was
an
early
spring
morning.
I
was
driving
home
down
a
quiet
country
road.
Suddenly,
I
saw
a
rock
up
ahead
in
the
middle
of
the
road.
As
I
slowed
to
go
around
it,
I
noticed
that
it
had
a
head
and
was
looking
up
at
me.
It
was
a
turtle
(龟).
It
was
sitting
in
the
sun
to
warm
up.
I
stopped
to
the
side
of
the
road
and
picked
it
up.
I
knew
if

the

off
to
the
side
of
the
road,
it
would
just
move
back
to
the
warmer
place

up
again
and

a

out
and
started
enjoying
the

more.

and

back
to
my
house.
My
simple
act
of
kindness
didn't
seem
like
much
in
the
eyes
of
the
world,
but
it
made
a
difference
in
the
life
of
one
turtle
and
in
the
heart
of
one
man.
Most
of
us
go
through
our
lives
and
want
to
make
some
big
differences
in
this
world.
However,
any
kind
act
makes
a

Thomas
Edison
was
born
on
February
11,
1847,
on
a
cold
snowy
night
in
Milan,
Ohio.
His
parents,
Nancy
and
Samuel,
named
him
Thomas
after
his
great-uncle
and
Alva
after
Captain
Alva
Bradley,
a
good
friend
of
his
father.
The
family
didn’t
call
him
Tom
or
Tommy.
They
called
him
Al.
Little
Al
wanted
to
find
out
everything
about
the
world
around
him.
He
went
about
it
like
a
scientist
doing
an
experiment.
He
didn’t
just
ask
questions;
he
liked
to
find
out
the
answers
himself.
Once
Al
broke
open
a
bumblebee

s
nest
(蜂巢)
to
see
what
was
inside.
Another
time
Al
watched
birds
eat
worms
and
fly
off.
So
he
made
a
mixture
(

物)
out
of
water
and
mashed
(

的)
worms.
Then
he
gave
it
to
a
neighbour
girl
to
drink.
He
wanted
to
see
if
eating
worms
would
make
her
fly.
But
it
just
made
her
sick,
and
Al
was
punished
by
his
parents.
When

seven,
the
family
moved
to
a
new
home
in
Port
Huron,
Michigan,
more
than
a
hundred
miles

only
been

a
short
time
when
Al
caught
scarlet
fever
(猩红热).
It
was
a
serious
illness
back
then
without
the
medicines
used
today.
He
ran
a
high
fever.
Later
Al
got
better,
but
he
realized
that
he
couldn’t
hear
as
well
as
he
used
to,
probably
because
of
the
scarlet
fever.
In
school,
the
teacher
complained
that
Al
didn’t
pay
attention.
Maybe
he
was
bored,
or
maybe
he
just
couldn’t
hear
everything.
One
day
eight-year-old
Al
heard
his
teacher
telling
someone
that
he
was
stupid.
When
Al
told
his
mother,
she
was
angry.
She
took
him
out
of
school
and
began
teaching
him
at
home.

We
all
have
“growing
pains
and
gains”
in
our
lives.
Recently,
18-year-old
Taylor
Martinovich
from
New
Zealand
has
shared
her
story
of
growing
up
with
Tourette
syndrome,
a
condition
(

状)
that
affects
a
person’s
central
nervous
system
(中枢神经系统)
and
causes
unusual
movements
or
sounds
called
tics
(抽搐症).
She
hopes
through
sharing
her
story,
she
will
be
able
to
help
make
people
know
more
about
Tourette
syndrome.
Generally,
one
in
100
people
are
born
with
Tourette
syndrome,
but
the
majority
will
have
tics
so
mild
that
they
may
not
even
be
noticed.
When
she
was
four,
Taylor
would
sit
in
front
of
the
TV
and
shake
her
head
with
her
eyes
rolling
and
blinking.
Since
tics
usually
start
to
show
in
early
childhood
and
worsen
in
the
early
teens,
Taylor
suffered
a
lot
from
the
condition
several
years
later.
Her
main
tics
were
banging
her
chest
(

胸),
running
into
walls
and
making
noises.
“Sometimes
I
would
just
kick
some
objects
around
me,”
she
said.
Other
students
didn’t
understand
what
was
happening
and
Taylor
would
be
forced
to
go
home
about
three
times
a
week.
“It
was
very
stressful
physically
and
mentally.”
Luckily,
most
people
who
suffer
from
Tourette’s
find
their
tics
improve
by
their
late
teens
and
early
adulthood.
As
for
Taylor,
when
she
turned
15,
her
Tourette
syndrome
started
to
stop.
She
went
on
to
study
at
the
New
Zealand
School
of
Tourism
and
now
is
a
qualified
flight
attendant
(合格的空姐).
Now
the
brave
girl
only
suffers
a
tic
if
her
body
is
under
stress
or
overheated.
“I
don’t
think
it
will
get
in
the
way
of
my
dream
of
travelling
the
world.”
Today
Taylor
works
together
with
Tourette’s
Association
of
New
Zealand
to
help
children
who
suffer
from
the
condition.
