Failure
is
probably
the
most
exhausting
experience
a
person
ever
has.
There
is
nothing
more
tiring
than
not
succeeding.
We
experience
this
tiredness
in
two
ways:
as
start up
fatigue
and
performance
fatigue.
In
the
former
case,
we
keep
putting
off
a
task
because
it
is
either
too
boring
or
too
difficult.
And
the
longer
we
delay
it,
the
more
tired
we
feel.
Such
start up
fatigue
is
very
real,
even
if
not
actually
physical,
not
something
in
our
muscles
and
bones.
The
solution
is
obvious
though
perhaps
not
easy
to
apply:
always
handle
the
most
difficult
job
first.
Years
ago,
I
was
asked
to
write
102
essays
on
the
great
ideas
of
some
famous
authors.
Applying
my
own
rule,
I
determined
to
write
them
in
alphabetical
order
never
letting
myself
leave
out
a
tough
idea.
And
I
always
started
the
day's
work
with
the
difficult
task
of
essay writing.
Experience
proved
that
the
rule
works.
Performance
fatigue
is
more
difficult
to
handle.
Though
willing
to
get
started,
we
cannot
seem
to
do
the
job
right.
Its
difficulties
appear
so
great
that,
however
hard
we
work,
we
fail
again
and
again.
In
such
a
situation,
I
work
as
hard
as
I
can—then
let
the
unconscious
take
over.
When
planning
Encyclopaedia
Britannica
,
I
had
to
create
a
table
of
contents
based
on
the
topics
of
its
articles.
Nothing
like
this
had
ever
been
done
before,
and
day
after
day
I
kept
coming
up
with
solutions,
but
none
of
them
worked.
My
fatigue
became
almost
unbearable.
One
day,
mentally
exhausted,
I
wrote
down
all
the
reasons
why
this
problem
could
not
be
solved.
I
tried
to
convince
myself
that
the
trouble
was
with
the
problem
itself,
not
with
me.
Relieved,
I
sat
back
in
an
easy
chair
and
fell
asleep.
An
hour
later,
I
woke
up
suddenly
with
the
solution
clearly
in
mind.
In
the
weeks
that
followed,
the
solution
which
had
come
up
in
my
unconscious
mind
proved
correct
at
every
step.
Though
I
worked
as
hard
as
before,
I
felt
no
fatigue.
Success
was
now
as
exciting
as
failure
had
been
depressing.
Human
beings,
I
believe,
must
try
to
succeed.
Success,
then,
means
never
feeling
tired.
1.People

1.lived
in
2.among/on rank
among
on
the
top
contributor
4.published
study

publish
5.who/that 本句中
Japanese
people
had
a
mortality
rate
15%
lower
than
those...为主句,“__5__
kept
on
the
traditional
Japanese
diet
during
the
15 year
who

that。
“who
__6__
did。
lower
than
8.breaks
gives
Ministry
of
Health,
Labour
and
Welfare”
breaks。
9.importance
gives

I

a
new
student,
not
only
in
her
class,
but
at
the
school,
she
made
my

was
really
proud
and
so
were
my
parents.”
Green
always

Do
you
find
getting
up
in
the
morning
so
difficult
that
it's
painful
This
might
be
called
laziness,
but
Dr.
Kleitman
has
a
new
explanation.
He
has
proved
that
everyone
has
a
daily
energy
cycle.
During
the
hours
when
you
labor
through
your
work
you
may
say
that
you're
“hot”.
That's
true.
The
time
of
day
when
you
feel
the
most
energetic
is
when
your
cycle
of
body
temperature
is
at
its
peak.
For
some
people
the
peak
comes
during
the
forenoon.
For
others
it
comes
in
the
afternoon
or
evening.
No
one
has
discovered
why
this
is
so,
but
it
leads
to
such
familiar
monologues
as
John
talks
to
himself:
“Get
up,
John!
You'll
be
late
for
work
again!”
The
possible
explanation
for
the
trouble
is
that
John
is
at
his
temperature and energy
peak
in
the
evening.
Much
family
quarrelling
ends
when
husbands
and
wives
realize
what
these
energy
cycles
mean,
and
which
cycle
each
member
of
the
family
has.
You
can't
change
your
energy
cycle,
but
you
can
learn
to
make
your
life
fit
it
better.
Habit
can
help,
Dr.
Kleitman
believes.
Maybe
you're
sleepy
in
the
evening
but
feel
you
must
stay
up
late
anyway.
Adjust
your
cycle
to
some
extent
by
staying
up
later
than
you
want
to.
If
your
energy
is
low
in
the
morning
but
you
have
an
important
job
to
do
early
in
the
day,
rise
before
your
usual
hour.
This
won't
change
your
cycle,
but
you'll
get
up
steam
and
work
better
at

labeled
as
containing
no
artificial
colors,
but
it
contained
absolutely
no
strawberries
at
all.
Consumers
have
the
rights和The
Food
be
listed
on
the

so+adv.+that...
sorry常和but连用,此处的but
64.if
see

65.to
allow
sb.
to
do
sth.
take。
fill...with...
,故填with。
67.Seeing ________
(see)
the
suitcase,
“St.
Peter
said,
“Hold
on,..”
God's
69.that/which 考查定语从句。
“...the
things
________the
man
found
too
precious
to
leave
behind”,
sth.
behind
留下某物),故填which/that。
70.is
be
made
of
street(单数),所以应是
is
made
of,故填is
made。

our
故选A。

should
help
you,
not
hurt
friends
who
you
are...respect
you
is
the
only
way
to
truly
yourself
to
be
everyone
kindness
and
respect”与E项中的“a
group
of
people
that
deserve
to
be
everyone
with
the
same
level
of
respect...of

Dear

implementing
of

planning
policy,
most

one

答案
Dear_Editor,
With_the_implementing_of_family_planning_policy,_most_families_have_only_one_child.
There
are
lots
of
problems
with
these
children,
one
of
which
is
the
lack
of
the
ability
to
deal
with
other
people.
Basically,
when
born
in
a
family
without
siblings,
a
child
is
usually
vain
and
arrogant,
even
sometimes
indifferent
and
rebellious.
All
these
disadvantages
may
contribute
to
unhappiness
of
his
or
her
life.
Recently
a
new
policy
has
been
adjusted
nationwide,
which
allows
a
family
to
have
two
children.
In
the
process
of
growing,
the
two
can
take
care
of
each
other,
and
share
too
much
in
common,
which
is
beneficial
to
their
character
building
and
psychological
health.
In
my
view,
it
is
better
to
have
two
children
in
a
family
than
only
one.
Yours
Sincerely,
Li

Under
the
sea
Oceanography
has
been
defined
as
“The
application
of
all
sciences
to
the
study
of
the
sea”.
Before
the
nineteenth
century,
scientists
with
an
interest
in
the
sea
were
few
and
far
between.Certainly
Newton
considered
some
theoretical
aspects
of
it
in
his
writings,
but
he
was
unwilling
to
go
to
sea
to
further
his
work.
For
most
people
the
sea
was
remote,
and
with
the
exception
of
early
intercontinental
travelers
or
others
who
earned
a
living
from
the
sea,
there
was
little
reason
to
ask
many
questions
about
it,
let
alone
to
ask
what
lay
beneath
the
surface.
The
first
time
that
the
question
“What
is
at
the
bottom
of
the
oceans?”
had
to
be
answered
with
any
commercial
consequence
was
when
the
laying
of
a
telegraph
cable
from
Europe
to
America
was
proposed.
The
engineers
had
to
know
the
depth
profile
of
the
route
to
estimate
the
length
of
cable
that
had
to
be
made.
It
was
to
Maury
of
the
US
Navy
that
the
Atlantic
Telegraph
Company
turned,
in
1853,
for
information
on
this
matter.
In
the
1840s,
Maury
had
been
responsible
for
encouraging
voyages
during
which
soundings(测深)were
taken
to
investigate
the
depths
of
the
North
Atlantic
and
Pacific
Oceans.
Later,
some
of
his
findings
aroused
much
popular
interest
in
his
book—The
Physical
Geography
of
the
Sea.
The
cable
was
laid,
but
not
until
1866
was
the
connection
made
permanent
and
reliable.
At
the
early
attempts,
the
cable
failed
and
when
it
was
taken
out
for
repairs
it
was
found
to
be
covered
in
living
growths,
a
fact
which
defied
contemporary
scientific
opinion
that
there
was
no
life
in
the
deeper
parts
of
the
sea.
Within
a
few
years
oceanography
was
under
way.
In
1872
Thomson
led
a
scientific
expedition,
which
lasted
for
four
years
and
brought
home
thousands
of
samples
from
the
sea.
Their
classification
and
analysis
occupied
scientists
for
years
and
led
to
a
five volume
report,
the
last
volume
being
published
in
1895.
1.The
passage
implies
that
the
telegraph
cable
was
built
mainly
________.
A.for
oceanographic
studies
B.for
military
purposes
C.for
business
considerations
D.for
investigating
the
depths
of
the
oceans
2.The
aim
of
voyages
Maury
encouraged
in
the
1840s
was
________.
A.to
make
some
sound
experiments
in
the
oceans
B.to
collect
samples
of
sea
plants
and
animals
C.to
estimate
the
length
of

D.to

4.The

A.the

C.the

of

first
time
that
the
question
‘What
is
at
the
bottom
of
the
oceans?’
had
to
be
answered
with
any
commercial
consequence
was
when
the
laying
of
a
telegraph
cable
from
Europe
to
America
was
proposed.”
the
1840s,
Maury
had
been
responsible
for
encouraging
voyages
during
which
soundings
were
taken
to
investigate
the
depths
of
the
North
Atlantic
and
Pacific
Oceans.”

my
childhood,
I
envied
my
classmates
very
much
as
my
absence
from
school
was
not
allowed
due
to
my
strict
parents.”
to(过去常常……)。A项need
to
do“需要做……”,C项agree
to
do“同意做……”,D项ought
to“应该……”。
A项evidence“证据”,C项answer“答案”,D项result“结果”。
to
sb.
about...“向……
A项support“支持”,
B项make“制作”,D项change“改变”。
no
know,故选A项。
由下文“because
it
probably
would
take
months
or
years
to...” A项luck“运气”,B项money“钱”,D项opportunity“机会”。
A项take“带走”,B项promote“提升;促进”,D项create“创造”。
pictures
is
good
because
you
can
make
big
money
and
only
work
short
hours.”
A项gently“温和地”,B项eagerly“渴望地”,D项carefully
didn't
want
to
waste
time
because
it
probably
would
take
months
or
years
to
make
it
big.”
no
desire
want
to。A项choice“选择”,B项time“时间”,D项chance“机会”不符合语境。
A项decision“决定”,C项pressure“压力”,D项intelligence“智商”。
things
seem
to
happen
immediately,
it
is
only
because
a
lot
of
effort,
determination
and
time
have
gone
into
it.”
how
you
start
paying
for
it,
in
sweat.”

Why
do
human
beings
still
risk
their
lives
under
ground
and
doing
one
of
the
dirtiest
and
most
dangerous
jobs
in
the
world
It
is
an
increasingly
urgent
question,
given
the
recent
mining
accidents
in
Sago,
W.
Va
and
Huntington,
Utah.
A
small
group
of
engineers
and
robotics
experts
look
forward
to
a
day
in
the
not too distant
future
when
robots
and
other
technology
do
most
of
the
dangerous
mining
work.
Robotic
technology,
in
particular,
holds
much
promise,
McAteer
says,
especially
when
it
comes
to
mapping
mines
and
rescuing
trapped
miners—the
special
operations
of
the
mining
industry.
One
of
the
first
mining
robots
was
developed
five
years
ago
at
Carnegie
Mellon
University's
Robotics
Institute.
It
was
called
Groundhog.
It
used
lasers(激光器)
to
“see”
in
dark
tunnels
and
map
abandoned
mines—some
of
the
most
dangerous
work
in
the
business.
The
latest
design
is
called
Cave
Crawler.
It's
a
bit
smaller
than
Groundhog,and
even
more
advanced.
It
can
take
photos
and
videos
and
has
more
sensors
that
can
detect
the
presence
of
dangerous
gases.
Incredibly,the
robot
has
a
real
sense
of
logic.
If
it
comes
across
an
obstacle
it
gets
momentarily
confused.
It
has
to
think
about
what
to
do
and
where
to
go
next.
Sometimes
it
throws_a_fit
just
like
a
real
person.
The
greatest
problem,
