Have you ever met the situation there you kept thinking that there are opportunities, or chances, which are better than your current one? This is the syndrome(综合症)when you are looking at the other side of the grass and think that the grass is greener on the other side and is also what I call the “greener grass” syndrome.
Why are you like this? Uncertainty and curiosity play a big part in creating the “greener grass” syndrome. If you have this syndrome, you are likely to miss a lot if things you have now. When you are always focusing on other opportunities, sometimes you may waste the opportunity right in front of you.
So what can you do to treat the “greener grass” syndrome? The first thing to do is recognize that your current job is your best choice right now. Try to focus on “what is” instead of “what if”. Secondly, always stick to your job, no matter which side you are at. Last but not least, always do your best in your current job. In conclusion, it is important for you to chose a side, and make the best out of it.
49. From the first two paragraphs, we learn that ______ may be the main cause of the “green grass” syndrome.
A. uncertainty B. opportunities
C. one’s current job D. the current situation

第二节:阅读下面的材料,从所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出符合53 ~ 56小题要求的最佳选项。
Philip, Carla, Eliza and David are each doing a study. They are asking four business persons questions. Read the questions and find the proper answers.
53. Philip: Does profit always go first in shopping business?
54. Carla: Will people do all their shopping over the Internet?
55. Eliza: Will supermarkets take the place of small local shops?
56. David: Has Internet been the key to the online business growth?
A
Not really. A lot of things you want to see and touch before you buy them, like fresh food or clothes. More things like electrical goods, CDs and books are more likely to be ordered by clicking on the mouse and sent to customers’ doors, because they’ll be cheaper — but some people are worried about safety about giving a bank card number on the Net — I mean, I think that might stop some people.
B
Probably not. I think it’ll certainly be more and more difficult for small shops to survive because of the prices, really. And you can get everything in one place in a supermarket, of course. But people always need local shops, I mean, if you just want some milk or something for the house, you don’t want to drive a long way, park your car and fight the crowd. So they may not disappear completely.
C
Well, profit is really important, but I think service is the first. Many of my customers are from the university. I offer them the kink of personal service they can’t get in a larger shop. I work long hours to keep the shop going, and both of my two children help me after school. I see the personal contact with my customers as the most important part of my job. We’re never too busy to stop and chat about friends, exams, or whatever they want to talk about.
D
I don’t think so. I never go shopping myself — well, not very often. All those crowds of people and you can never find exactly what you want. That’s what gave me the idea for the Internet shop to sell clothes, or small gifts. I was so surprised when the business grew so quickly. But I don’t really think Internet is the key to my business — I suppose there are lots of people out there who hate shopping too!
