Show the whole class 12 pictures of star signs that the students draw. Teach them the names and repeat several times. Ask one student What your star sign is. Help him to answer. My star sign is…….Next, What are your characteristics Kind, generous…….
2 Ask more students the questions.

1Show students a table on the blackboard. And ask some students to fill in blanks.

Divide the students into 12 groups. Then play the tape for the whole class to write down the characteristics of each star sign, each group find out their own star sign.
2.Read the text .
Ask one student at a time to read a paragraph. After each paragraph, ask students to say which parts of the text they do not understand. Less able students may find some of the names of the star signs difficult. If so, do not force them to learn them by heart because they are only used here to arouse students’ interest. It is more important for them to learn the adjectives that describe people’s characteristics. This will enable them to complete the Main Task at the end of the unit.
3 Ask some questions to check understanding. The students can discuss in pairs to think of some questions, ask and answer in pairs with the adjective.T:What kind of person is he /she

Step3 Practice
1.Ask students to do Part C2 on their own and check their answers with their partners. Ask students to refer to the reading passage on page 8and 9. If students have different answers, ask them to discuss the answers.
2. Ask students to pick five characteristics that describe themselves and write them in the blanks in part D1. Tell less able students to refer to the reading passage on pages 8and 9 if they need help with ideas.
3. Now, ask students to read the description of their star sign on pages 8and 9. Ask them to write whether the characteristics listed under their star sign match the characteristics they have listed.
eg.My characteristics:
I am good at sports .I like playing football very much.I always plan things carefully .My classmates often say I am very patient .Sometimes,I am patient enough to wait for a long time without getting angry .My star sign is Capricorn.I think my characteristic match what my star sign says about me.
4. Ask all those who think their characteristics match their star sign to raise their hands. Then ask all those whose characteristics do not match to raise their hands.
5. Do a class survey. Ask students whether they believe in star signs. Count how many say ‘yes’ and how many say ‘no’. Write the numbers on the board. For more able students, ask them to say why they believe or do not believe in star signs.
6. Divide the class into pairs. Ask students to write down five words that describe their partner’s characteristics in Part D2.Then exchange their books and discuss their answers.

1. Listen and repeat the article after the tape.

When my family moved to America from a small village in Guangdong, China, we brought not only our luggage, but also our village rules, customs and culture. One of the rules is that young people should always respect elders. Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment(尴尬) in the United States.
I had a part-time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. One time, when I was serving food to a middle-aged couple(夫妇), the wife asked me how the food could be served so quickly. Here many people try to keep themselves away from growing old by doing exercises or jogging, and women put on makeup, hoping to look young. When I told the couple in the restaurant that I respect the elderly, they got angry because this caused them to feel they had failed to stay young. I had told them something they didn’t want to hear.
