When
students
read
articles
about
scientific
discovery,
they
learn
what
worked.
Scientists
present
the
methods
that
got
the
best
result.
They
often
show
only
the
results
that
are
significant
and
important.
What
they
won’t
show
are
the
mistakes
or
failures
that
came
first.
Yet
sometimes
those
mistakes
pointed
the
way
to
success.
It
can
take
a
long
time
and
many
experiments
to
achieve
scientific
success.
Robbin,
16,
and
Annabelle,
15,learned
that
while
working
this
summer
in
a
biochemistry
lab
at
Stony
Brook
University
in
New
York.
What’s
more,they
learned
that
failure
is
not
necessarily
something
to
fear.
"
I
like
the
idea
of
scientific
research,"
says
Robbin.
It’s
the
basis
for
"
every
lesson
you
learn
in
school
and
understanding
everything
you
see
in
life.
"
This
summer,
Robbin
has
been
working
with
Lauren,
a
chemistry
student,
who
is
making
new
drugs
to
fight
harmful
bacteria.
At
first,
the tests
made
Robbin
anxious.
She
worried
that
she
might
be
making
costly
mistakes.
But
Lauren
reassured
her
that
finding
out
what
doesn’t
work
is
"just
part
of
the
learning
process".
With
time,
the
teen
got
comfortable
with
the
idea
that
every
experiment
wouldn’t
succeed.
Annabelle
also
learned
a
lot
about
failure
and
success.
She worked
with
graduate
student
Agnieszka
Gil.
"Sometimes
I
try
something
and
it
takes
a
while
for
the
experiment
to
run."
This
means
that
finding
out
whether
Annabelle
did
something
wrong
can
be
a
stressful
waiting
game,
because
"
if
you
did
something
wrong
you
need
to
do
it
again."
But
she’s
now
learning
to
be
patient
and
not
to
expect
instant
success.
In
science,figuring
out
why
something
failed
is
what
may
just
put
them
on
the
road
to
success.
21.
What
impresses
students
most
in
articles
about
scientific
discovery
A
Scientists’
achievements.
B.
The
reasons
for
success.
C.
The
cause
of
mistakes.
D.
Stressful
process
of
research.
22.
What
can
we
learn
from
the
passage
A.
Robbin
is
a
graduate
student
B.
Lauren
managed
to
make
new
drugs.
C.
Annabelle
learns
the
value
of
patience.
D.
Agnieszka
expected
an
instant
success.
23.
What
does
the
writer
intend
to
tell
us
A.
The
cause
of
making
errors
in
science.
B.
The
significance
of
scientific
discovery.
C.
The
importance
of
doing
experiments.
D.
The
correct
attitudes
towards
failures.
B
Jumanji
勇敢者的游戏 is
a
story
for
children
about
a
very
strange
game—a
game
that
becomes
far
too
real
and
frightening
for
the
players.
It
was
a
story
by
Chris
Van
Allsburg,
which
was
later
filmed
in
1996,
starring
the
famous
American
actor
Robin
Williams.
The
story
begins
in
1869
in
New
Hampshire,
America.
Two
young
brothers
bury
a
box
under
some
trees.
A
hundred
years
later,
in
1969,
a
boy,
Alan
Panisb,
finds
the
box,
and
takes
it
home.
He
is
unhappy
that
his
father
may
want
to
send
him
to
a
boarding
school.
Alan’s
friend,
Sarah,
arrives,
and
they
open
the
box.
Inside
is
a
board
game.
At
the
start
of
the
game,
some
words
appear:”
Do
you
want
to
leave
the
world
behind
and
go
back
to
the
past
Then
this
is
the
game
for
you,”
Suddenly
Alan
finds
that
he
is
disappearing
into
the
game.
The
story
has
a
deep
meaning.
Through
his
adventures
Alan
learns
something
important—if
you
face
your
fears,
your
problems
will
go
away.
Alan
turns
to
face
Van
Pelt,
the
hunter
who
is
trying
to
kill
him.
In
doing
so,
he
completes
the
game
and
returns
to
reality.
Then
he
finds
that
his
father
is
not
going
to
send
him
to
a
boarding
school
after
all.
In
Jumanji,
time
is
flexible.
The
film
director
Spielberg’s
Back
to
the
Future
films
play
with
time
in
the
same
way.
Top
scientists
even
tell
us
now
that
time
travel
is
theoretically
possible!
24.
From
the
story
we
learn
that
Alan
is
a
boy
who______________.
.
A.
dislikes
his
study
at
school
B.
is
afraid
of
his
serious
father
C.
was
born
a
hundred
years
ago
D.
goes
back
to
the
past
in
the
game
25.
Through
the
game
Alan
has
realized
that
whenever
he
has
difficulties
he
should _______.
A.
escape
into
the
past
B.
face
them
bravely
C.
ask
for
his
father’s
advice
D.
read
the
words
on
the
box
26.
What
does
the
author
mean
when
he
says
time
is
flexible
A.
One
can
travel
in
time.
B.
Science
can
change
the
limit
of
time.
C.
Time
travel
is
impossible
in
space. D.
Time
is
a
common
topic
in
film-making.
C
When
I
was
about
ten
years
old,
I
was
walking
down
the
street
with
my
mother.
She
stopped
to
speak
to
Mr.Lee.
I
knew
I
could
see
Mr.
Lee
any
time
around
the
neighborhood,
so
I
didn’t
pay
any
attention
to
him.
After
we
passed
Mr.
Lee,
my
mother
stopped
me
and
said
something
that
has
stuck
with
me
from
that
day
until
now.
She
said
seriously,
“You
let
that
be
the
last
time
you’ve
ever
walked
by
somebody
and
not
opened
up
your
mouth
to
speak,
because
even
a
dog
will
wag
its
tail
when
it
passes
you
on
the
street.”
Mother’s
words
sound
simple,
but
it’s
been
a
guidepost
for
me
and
the
foundation
of
who
I
am.
It’s
not
just
something
I
believe
in;
it’s
a
way
of
life.
I
believe
that
every
person
deserves
to
feel
someone
acknowledge
their
presence,
no
matter
how
humble
(卑微)
they
may
be.
At
work,
I
always
said
hello
to
the
founder
of
the
company
and
ask
him
how
our
business
was
doing.
But
I
also
spoke
to
the
people
who
cleaned
the
buildings
and
asked
how
their
children
were
doing.
After
a
few
years
of
greeting
the
founder,
I
had
the
courage
to
ask
him
for
a
meeting.
We
had
a
great
talk.
At
a
certain
point
I
asked
him
how
far
he
thought
I
could
go
in
his
company.
He
said,
“If
you
want
to,
you
can
get
all
the
way
to
this
seat.”
I’ve
become
vice
president,
but
it
hasn’t
changed
the
way
I
approach
people.
I
still
follow
my
mother’s
advice.
I
speak
to
everyone
I
see,
no
matter
where
I
am.
I’ve
learned
that
speaking
to
people
creates
a
pathway
into
their
world,
and
it
allows
them
to
come
into
mine,
too.
27.What
did
the
author
do
when
he
met
Mr.
Lee
A.
He
talked
with
somebody
else.
B.
He
was
attracted
by
a
dog.
C.
He
greeted
him
politely.
D.
He
ignored
him.
28.What
kind
of
person
is
the
author’s
mother
A.
Optimistic.
B.
Kind-hearted.
C.
Strict.

D.
Open-minded.
29.How
did
the
company
founder
reply
to
the
author
A.
He
inspired
him.

B.
He
played
a
joke.
C.
He
invited
him
to
coffee.
D.
He
gave
him
the
seat.
30.What
does
the
author
think
of
saying
hello
to
people
A.
It’s
a
way
to
show
sympathy(同情心)
to
people.
B.
It
can
build
connections
with
others.
C.
It’s
a
must
to
become
a
president.
D.
It
can
bring
him
what
he
wants.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10
分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How
to
Be
a
Pleasant
Person
Each
of
us
would
love
to
be
appreciated
for
the
positive
emotions
that
are
exhibited
around
our
surroundings.
31
The
following
steps
will
help
you
to
be
a
pleasant
person.
Be
modest.
Understand
that
we
all
are
humans.
You
might
be
rich
or
poor,
black
or
white,
short
or
tall
etc.
But
above
all
we
are
all
humans,
which
means
we
are
all
emotional
beings.
So
treat
others
the
way
you
would
like
to
be
treated.
32
Be
it
offering
a
seat
to
an
elderly
person
or
throwing
the
football
back
to
the
young
child,
the
inner
self-satisfaction
you
get
by
doing
so
is
priceless.
Once
you
do
so,
you
will
feel
good
about
yourself.
Don’t
regret.
We
all
are
reasonable
beings
and
it
is
very
human
to
do
unreasonable
things
at
times.
However,
it
does
not
mean
that
we
should
regret
what
we
did
in
the
past.
Every
experience
is
a
learning
which
teaches
you
what
to
do
and
what
not
to
do
in
future.

33

Forgive
and
forget.
Always
living
in
the
past
will
only
make
one
painful
on
the
inside,
which
will
reflect
on
the
outside.
34
By
doing
so,
your
heart
becomes
light.
Be
grateful.
Thank
God
and
the
Universe
for
yourself,
your
parents,
your
friends,
your
clothes,
jobs,
food,
home
etc.
and
every
small
thing
that
makes
a
difference.
35

It
will
make
you
appreciate
life.
A.
Encourage
others
and
yourself.
B.
So
be
proud
that
you
have
learnt
a
lesson
on
your
own.
C.
Lend
a
helping
hand
with
a
smile.
D.
If
possible,
express
your
gratefulness
for
something
every
day.
E.
Little
do
we
know
that
it
is
not
a
hard
task
at
all.
F.
To
have
a
pleasant
emotion
around
you,
it
is
better
to
let
go.
G.
Throw
flowers
at
others
if
you
wish
flowers
to
be
thrown
at
you.

Love
Note
to
My
Mom
When
I
was
a
little
girl,
I
would
often
accompany
you
as
you
modeled
for
fashion
photographers.
It
was
years
later
that
I
finally
understood
what
role
modeling
36
in
your
life.
Little
did
I
know
you
were
37
every
penny
you
earned
to
go
to
38
school.
I
cannot
thank
you
enough
for
39
you
told
me
one
autumn
afternoon
when
I
was
nine.
After
finishing
my
homework,
I
wandered
into
the
dining
room
where
you
were
buried
40
piles
of
law
books.
I
was
41
.Why
were
you
doing
what
I
do—memorizing
textbooks
and
studying
for
42
When
you
said
you
were
in
law
school,
I
was
more
puzzled.
I
didn’t
know
Moms
43
be
lawyers
too.
You
smiled
and
said,“In
life,
you
can
do
anything
you
want
to
do.”
As
young
as
I
was,
that
statement
kept
44
in
my
ears.
I
watched
as
you
faced
the
45
of
completing
your
studies,
starting
companies
with
Dad,
while
still
being
a
46
and
a
Mom
of
five
kids.
I
was
exhausted
just
watching
you
47
.With
your
words
of
wisdom
in
my
48
mind,
I
suddenly
felt
unlimited
freedom
to
dream.
My
whole
world
49
.
I
set
out
to
live
my
life
filled
with
50
,seeing
endless
possibilities
for
personal
and
professional
achievements.
Your
words
became
my
motto.
I
51
found
myself
in
the
unique
position
of
being
either
the
first
(woman
doctor
in
Maryland
Rotary)
52
one
of
the
few
women
(chief
medical
reporters)
in
my
field.
I
gained
strength
every
time
I
said
,
“Yes.
I’ll
try
that.”
Encouraged
by
your
53
,
I
have
forged
ahead
(毅然前行)
with
my
life’s
journey,
less
afraid
to
make
mistakes,
and
54
meeting
each
challenge.
You
did
it,
and
now
I’m
55
it.
Sorry,
got
to
run.
So
much
to
do,
so
many
dreams
to
live.
