1. Help Ss grasp the pronunciation of the new words and the use of the new words.
1. Help Ss know some derivations of the words and some relative phrases.

I) let SS pronounce the words by themselves and then ask them to read after me.
II) let Ss remember the pronunciation of all the words.

1.add up
1) Add up all the money I owe you.
【拓展】add up to 总计为,总数为;add…to… 把…加入…中;add to 增加,增添
1) These numbers add up to 100.
2) Please add some salt to the soup.
3) The bad weather added to our difficulties.
2. upset
vt. 1). The generals plotted to upset the government (弄翻,打翻;倾覆)
2). Rain upset our plans for a picnic. (打乱,搅乱)
3). Losing the necklace borrowed from her friend upset her completely.( 使心烦意乱)
4). The lousy food upsets my stomach. (使(肠胃)不适)

3. ignore
1) I can’t ignore his rudeness any longer.
2) I said hello to her, but she ignored me completely.

1) To say you were ignorant of the rules is no excuse. (无知的,愚昧的)
2)His ignorant behabior at the dinner table caused much embarrassment. (不识礼的,粗野的)

4. calm 指风浪或人的心情不激动
quiet 指(环境)安静的, 无动静的
silent 指寂静的,沉默不语的
still 指静止的,不动的,没有动作和运动
1) When you hear the bad news, please keep calm.

3) The Sweden stood still except that his lips moved slightly.

5. have got to (口语) = have to
1)I’ve got to go to work by bus tomorrow. (义务/ 责任;must: 主观,have to: 客观)
2)You’ve got to try this new recipe----it’s delicious.(劝告/ 建议)
You simply must see the film.
3) My bike is broken, so I have got to walk to school.
4) It’s late. I must go home.
6. concern
1) Our losses are beginning to concern me.(担忧)
2)This report concerns drug abuse.( 关于……,作为议题)
3)Don’t intefere in what doesn’t concern you.(对……有重要性,影响)
4)The car is fine as far as the engine is concerned. (就……而言)
5)As far as I’m concerned (就我而言), you can do what you like.
6)He was concerned in the crime. (与……有牵连/ 对……负有责任)
7)Her latest documentary is concerned with youth unemployment. (与……有关,涉及……)
8)We’re all concerned about/ for her safety.
I’m concerned that they may have got lost. (为……担心/ 烦恼/ 忧虑)
7. go through
1) The bill went through. (法律/ 法案等被正式通过/ 接受)
2) Let’s start now. There’s a lot of work to go through. (设法完成/ 做完)
3) She had gone through a bad patch recently. (经历,经受)
4) I seem to be going through a lot of money. (消耗掉)
5) Let’s go through the arguments. (仔细检查)
6) We spent several days going through the materials. (浏览)
8. set down
1) Please set down what I write on the blackboard. (写下,记下)
2) Set down your heavy bags and take a rest. (放下)
3) The bus driver set her down at the corner.(让某人下车)

11. on purpose

【拓展】with/ for the purpose of 带着……目的
1) He took along one of his pictures with the purpose of finding a job.
12. in order to
1) He waited at the gate in order to meet her when she camt out.
2) In order to learn English well, he works hard.
【辨析】in order to / so as to / in order that / so that
这两个短语都可以表示“以便,为了”,引导一个表示目的的状语,一般来说,该状语位于句末,用in order to或 so as to均可; 当该状语位于句首时,往往用in order to ,而不用so as to ,其否定形式为in order not to / so as not to。in order that; so that也可以引导目的状语从句。
13. at dusk

1) She settled down in an armchair to read her book. (舒适地坐或躺)
2) She is settling down well in her new job. (过更安定或宁静的生活;习惯于新的生活方式或工作等)
17. suffer
1) We suffered huge losses in the financial crisis. (遭受,经历)
2) How can you suffer his rudeness (忍受)
3) She’s suffering from loss of memory. (受苦,吃苦头)
4) He suffered from headache. (患病)
18. recover
1) He has now fully recovered from his stroke. (痊愈)
2) I’m slowly recovering my strength after a bout of flu. (恢复)

19. be / get tired of
1) I’m tired of (listening to) your criticisms.
2) I get tired of fish.
20. pack
1) I haven’t packed my suitcase yet. (打行李)

21. get along with

22. fall in love
1) They fell in love the first time they met.
2) He fell in love with her at first sight.
23. disagree
1) He disagree with his parents on most things. (与某人在某事上有分歧或持不同意见)
