Recorder, cassette, pictures of the new text.
V.Teaching steps :
Step 1: Warming up
1. Greetings:
Good morning, boys and girls.
Glad to see you again!
2. Sing the song Can you play well
Step 2: Revision
1. A game Listen and do
Help the people ride a bike
Play basketball open the door
Catch the ball run fast
Jump high play the drums
2. Free Talking
T: What can you do
Ss: I can ….
Ask the Ss to performance the dialogue.
3. Free Presentation
I can ….
Step 3: Presentation
1. T: You can do so many things. That’s very good!
But do you know what can a dog do
(Tape shows the dialogue.)Listen and try to understand it.
2. Raise some questions
a) What can the special dog do
b) Can Fifi help the blind people
3. Ask the Ss to talk about the questions
4. Learn to say these new words:
Blind TV show clever
Can—can’t could—couldn’t
4. Read the dialogue after the tape
5. Practice the dialogue in three.
6. Play a word game Big Mouth
Step 4: Practice
Ask Ss to describe the pictures of Activity 3 in pairs. Then check the answers in the whole class.

1. Review the new words and important sentences. Learn to say these new words:
Fire, fireman-firemen, hear-heard, Find-found, safe, have/has-had
2. Make sentences with: She couldn’t speak then, she can speak now.
3. Learn to read the text on P28
III.Important and difficult points :
Use the patterns to describe the abilities in the past and now.
IV.Preparation :
Recorder, cassette, pictures of the new text.
V.Teaching steps :
1. Step 1 Warm up
2. 教师出示一张Fifi 的图片。
T: What can Fifi do What can’t Fifi do
Ss: Fifi can… Fifi can’t…
3. 教师出示一张Fifi 一年前的图片。
T: What could Fifi do then What couldn’t Fifi do then
Help Ss learn “ could, couldn’t’t”.
结合图片引导学生理解could,couldn’t是 can , can’t 的过去式。
Step 2: Presentation
1. (shows the picture of fire)
Question: What happened
Who are they
(Learn to say: fire, fireman-firemen)
4. Learn to the text
What could the firemen do What couldn’t they do
Ss: The firemen could… They couldn’t…
3. Learn the passage.
(1) T: The firemen had a special dog. What could it do
Listen to the tape and answer.
Ss: The dog could hear the people. 板书并学习句子。
(2) Read and talk in groups.
Where were the people
Were they safe
学习单词 inside, safe
(3) Listen and repeat.
(4) Find the sentences with “ could, couldn’t’t”.
Step 3 Consolidation and extension
1. Activity 2
(1) Show 2 photos of Sarah.
T: Look at this photo; she is 8 years old now.
Look at this photo; she was 1 year old then.
学习比较单词 then, now
(2) T: What couldn’t she do then
Ss: She couldn’t speak then.
T: What can she do now
Ss: She can speak now.
(3) 仿照老师的例子,小组讨论其他几幅图片。
集体反馈。
2. Guessing game.
Which dog is it
出示Fifi 和导盲犬的照片。找一个同学到前面来,老师出示其中一幅图,其他同学对这只小狗进行描述,帮助这个同学来猜。
例如:
S1: This dog can eat.
S2: This dog can’t help people.
S3: This dog can play balls.
….
It’s Fifi!
小组讨论,尽可能多的说出这两只小狗能做和不能做的事情,形成小语篇进行介绍。
Step 4 Summary
引导学生总结本节课所学内容,强调can, can’t 和could, couldn’t的区分。帮助学生感受动物对人的帮助,引导学生热爱动物,和动物做朋友。
