在墨西哥,生日那天要尽可能早地致以祝贺,以图吉利。过生日的人常常在半夜被祝寿的朋友叫醒。印度人过生日有宗教色彩。必须在黎明前祈祷和祝福。泰国人在生日前的夜晚要点燃两支长蜡烛,一支同过生日者一样高,以求长寿。如果过早熄灭,则是不祥之兆。大多数西方国家过生日都是在蛋糕上插蜡烛,然后与祝寿者同食蛋糕。

语法精讲
一、序数词
序数词表示顺序,常与定冠词连用。其构成大多数是在基数词后加th。其构成规则如下:
1.基变序,有规律,多数词尾加th。
four→fourth;
six→sixth;
ten→tenth;
eleven→eleventh
2.一、二、三特殊记。
one→first;
two→second;
three→third
3.八减t,九去e,f把ve替,然后再加th。
eight→eighth;
nine→ninth;
five→fifth;
twelve→twelfth
4.以ty结尾的整十数词,先把y改为ie,然后再加th。
twenty→twentieth;
thirty→thirtieth;
forty→fortieth
5.假若遇到几十几,只变个位就可以。
twenty-one→twenty-first;
forty-two→forty-second;
fifty-four→fifty-fourth

二、日期
1.日期的书写。汉语的表达顺序为“年、月、日”而英语的表达则为“月、日、年”或“日、月、年”。

2.日期的读法。在朗读时,月直接用英语读出来;日则要读为“the+序数词”;年一般分为两个单位读,前两个为一个单位,后两个为一个单位。如果是三位数,先读百位,再把后两位数字合起来读。

3.日期前的介词in和on.
(1)in表示在某年或某月,如:in

(2)on表示在某一天,如:on

三、名词所有格
名词所有格表示有生命的名词与其后面名词的所有关系,表示所属关系。一般在名词词尾加“‘s”来构成所有格形式。名词所有格的构成:
1.一般在名词词尾加’s,如:Tom’s
books汤姆的书。
2.如果名词词尾是s则只加“‘”,如:the
boys’
rooms男孩们的房间。
3.名词所有格后的名词,如果是两人共同拥有,在最后一个名词词尾加’s,若两人各自拥有,则分别在两词词尾加’s。
