The fitness movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s centered around aerobic exercise(有氧操). Millions of individuals became engaged in a variety of aerobic activities, and literally thousands of health spas developed around the country to capitalize(获利)on this emerging interest in fitness, particularly aerobic dancing for females. A number of fitness spas came before this aerobic fitness movement, even a national chain with spas in most major cities. However, these fitness spas did not seem to benefit financially form the aerobic fitness movement to better health, since medical opinion suggested that weight-training programs offered few, if any, health benefits. In recent years, however, weight training has again become increasingly popular for males and for females. Historically, most physical-fitness tests have usually included measures of muscular strength and endurance, not for health-related reasons, but primarily because such fitness components have been related to performance in athletics. However, in recent years, evidence has shown that training programs designed primarily to improve muscular strength and endurance might also offer some health benefits as well. In ancient Greece athletic festivals were very important and had strong religious associations.
The Olympian athletic festival, held every four years in honor of Zeus, eventually lost its local character, became first a national event, and then, after the rules against foreign competitors had been waived , international. No one knows exactly how far back the Olympic Games go, but some official records date from 776 B.C. The Games took place in August on the plain by Mount Olympus. Many thousands of spectators(观众)gathered from all parts of Greece, but no woman was admitted even as a spectator. Slaves, women and dishonored persons were not allowed to compete. The exact sequence (顺序) of events is uncertain, but events included boys’ gymnastics, horse racing, field events such as discus and javelin throwing, and the very important foot races. There was also boxing and wrestling and special tests of varied ability such as the pentathlon, the winner of which excelled in running, jumping, discus and javelin throwing and wrestling. The evening of the third day was devoted to sacrificial offerings (祭品) to the heroes of the day, and the fourth day, that of the full moon, was set aside as a holy day. On the sixth and last day, all the victors were crowned with holy garlands(花冠) of wild olive from a sacred wood. So great was the honor that the winner of the foot race gave his name to the year of his victory. Although Olympic winners received no prize money, they were, in fact, richly rewarded by their state authorities. The public honor also made the strict discipline of the ten month training period worthwhile. In spite of the lengthy training, however, runners were known to drop dead from tiredness at the winning post. After an uninterrupted history of almost 1,200 years, the Games were abolished(取消) in A.D. 394, the Christian era, because of their pagan (异教的) origin. It was over 1,500 years before there was another such international athletics gathering. The Greek institution was brought back in 1896 and the first small meeting took place in Athens. After the 1908 London Olympics, success was reestablished and nations sent their best representatives. The Rugby World Cup, won on 22nd November by England, led to a feel-good mood even among people who didn’t usually follow rugby. Millions of television viewers cheered as fly-half Jonny Wilkinson scored the winning points with a drop-goal in the final minutes of extra time. The following Saturday more than 750,000 people turned out to cheer England's players on their victory parade in an open top bus through the streets of central London. This was followed by tea with The Queen at Buckingham Palace and a reception at Downing Street hosted by the Prime Minister.
The players were awarded honors in the New Year Honors List. These honors are awarded on merit, for exceptional achievement or merit in a number of fields. The England Rugby team coach, Clive Woodward, was knighted - so he becomes 'Sir Clive'. All the members of the team received an award, in contrast to the last time an England team won a World Cup. That was back in 1966, when England beat West Germany to win the Football World Cup. Some members of that team had to wait 30 years for official recognition.
Just before this year's Honors List was published it was revealed that some people who had been offered an award had decided not to accept it. Among the titles that are awarded are MBE (Member of the British Empire), OBE (Order of the British Empire) and CBE (Commander of the British Empire). It is this reference to an empire which no longer exists that has annoyed them.
Other countries have found the benefits of sport can be widespread. Australia hosted the last Olympic Games in 2000 and was widely praised for their success. The 2004 Games will be held in Athens, which is using the occasion to improve transport and other facilities, and the 2008 Games will be held in Beijing, which plans to build new metro lines and carry out environmental improvements.

A. Clive Woodward was highly praised by the British government
B. all the team members were praised by the government
C. all the members who won the Football World Cup were awarded
D. all the members who won the Football World Cup were not awarded
69. Some people refused to accept the titles because _______.

D
In my view, Beijing should host the 2008 Olympic Games for the following nine reasons:
Improved natural environment: Beijing has been renovated and made green, and has much fresher air than before. Thousands of vehicles have been reported unserviceable or have been equipped with catalytic(催化剂的)converters(转换器).After only one year of measures such as these, the air quality has improved appreciably, and there is once more a blue sky Beijing citizens can appreciate.
Telecommunications: The Internet, which was unknown not so long ago, is everywhere now, and the number of users doubles every six months. This is also the case for fixed and mobile phones. During the Olympic Games the media will have access to the most modern technology when transmitting their report worldwide.
Transport: Beijing has four ring roads, and a fifth is under construction. Some 9,400 buses transport over 5 billion people yearly. The east-west subway line has been completed and connected and another line is under construction.
International events: Each year, Beijing hosts major events like the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, the China-Africa Symposium(论坛)2000, and sports events like Asian Games. It has now acquired all the experience and facilities necessary to hold such events.
English: More and more taxi drivers and other public employees study English and are eager to practice their new language skills with their foreign customers. It never fails to surprise me when Chinese people speak to me in English in stores, markets and other public places.
Green Beijing: I realized long ago how green Beijing is compared with other large cities of the world I have visited. By 2008 vegetation coverage in Beijing will reach 40 percent, providing an average of 10 square metres of green space per resident.
Water: The 30 rivers, 26 lakes in and around the city, and moats(护城河)around the Forbidden City were dredged(疏通)and cleaned in the year of 2000. The river system now features clear water and green banks, and ducks and swans have returned.
Heritage(遗产):Chins has introduced laws to protect the historical heritage of its cities during the current urban construction drive. Planers follow regulations to preserve historic streets and houses.
Olympics spirit:For developed countries, hosting the Olympics means huge expenses and small profits, but for a developing country, it is a chance to progress. Paris and Toronto are also bidding for the 2008 Games, but my French and Canadian friends, like myself, support the Beijing bid.
71. What nationality is the author of the passage?
A. Chinese. B. French. C. Canadian. D. Unknown.
72. What has the Beijing municipal government done with the vehicles in Beijing?
A. Thousands have been kept from service.
B. All have been equipped with catalytic converters.
C. Measures will be taken to reduce fuel emission.
D.Both A and C.
73. According to the passage, it is hoped that ______.
A. more buses will be put into service in 2008
B. a fifth ring road will be under construction by 2008
C. a new subway line, besides the east-west line will be under construction by 2008
D. the 5 ring roads will help the traffic service a lot in 2008
74. The author of the passage suggests that _______.
A. more international events be held in Beijing
B. taxi drivers and other public employees learn English for the 2008 Olympics
C. vegetation coverage and river system be brought to a higher standard by 2008.

D. The 2008 Olympics will mean huge profits and progress for Beijing.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is drawing near. All of us are looking forward to it. Are you eager to enjoy watching the matches or start serving as a volunteer? First, you need to know about audience manner.
The behavior of courtside audiences is considered to be an important part of sporting culture. In 2004, after world champion Stephen Hendry lost to Ding Junhui in the China Open Snooker Championships, he complained of the noise from Chinese spectators. Perhaps you and your classmates could discuss how to behave while in the audience at the Olympic Games.
Most sporting arenas have rules for spectators written on the back of the tickets. Read your ticket carefully before you arrive. Try to reach your seat half an hour before the start of the event and don’t leave when a game is in progress. When you leave, remember to take away your soft drink bottles and other trash(垃圾).
During exciting games, try to control yourself. Don’t criticize the performance of players and coaches. Be careful with your words, since some may cause anger among other people in the audience.
Applause is a special form of body language you can use to communicate with players. But you should do it properly. When players first appear, clap your hands together ________, but don’t go on for too long. After an excellent performance, applaud warmly. If someone fails, your applause will help encourage them.
Applause is not welcome, however, while a game is in progress and players need to keep their concentration. Various sports have various rules for the audience.
Enjoying artistic gymnastics requires silence. But lots of cheering can really help basketball and football players. Snooker and table tennis courtside behavior includes a ban on flash photography. Mobile phones are not allowed in shooting centers.
To be a good spectator, you should take time to learn the game-specific rules and related culture of each event.

21.C Yes, please.=Yes, you may“可以”;、"Why not?"
24.A whether引导主语从句,what与how引导的名词性从句作介词on的宾语。
25.A related to their jobs是后置定语,修饰accidents and diseases。
26.B relate sth to sth 把……与……联系起来;keep in touch with与某人保持联系;be related to 与……

30.A in charge负责;in public当众, 公开地;in turn依次, 轮流;in control在控制之下/中,根据题意,选A。
31.C 在in which引导的定语从句中,含有take a part in (doing) sth.
34.A worthwhile adj. 值得的,重要的,有趣的,可构成be worthwhile to do/ doing sth.;join in和take part in一般指参加某项活动;attend多指参加会议,演讲等;join 一般是参加一种组织,如Party(党)或者可以是join sb.,所以选A。

39.A 与上文it was always the boys who played basketball形成对照,应填only,表示人们对男女生学校活动的性别刻板化印象。

A篇 56—60:BBDAD
依据为第一段第6行始“... but rather on weight-training programs designed to develop muscular mass, strength ,and endurance in their primarily male enthusiasm”.
再依据第一段 “…,since medical opinion suggested that weight-training programes offered few, if any, health benefits,”可以看出医生的态度是“谨慎的”。
依据是第二段开头“Historically, most physical-fitness have usually included…,not for health-related reasons, but primarily because such fitness components have been related to performance in athletics.”其中performance in athletics对应选项A的内容,所以说, A项为正确答案。
也就是第二段第二句“ However, in recent years, evidence has shown that training programs ... might also offer some health benefits as well.”
应选A。
文章最后只提及but my French and Canadian friends, like myself, support the Beijing bid.
Thousands of vehicles have been reported unserviceable…
文中表明“a fifth ring road”和“a new subway line”现在已在建而不是在2008年前将修建。
78.去掉the。
79.change前加to。(get sb. to do sth.“使某人做某事。)
80.of改为for。 这些形容词有good,nice,kind,clever,foolish,careless,等)
81.good改为well。(修饰动词do,要用副词well;do well“干得好“。)
82.I改为he。
83.对。
84.that改为whether。
One possible version:
Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m very glad to read your advertisement for the Olympic volunteers for 2008. Having read your terms, I think I’m qualified for the job. I’m Li Hua, a healthy high school boy. To do the work well as a volunteer, I’m willing to receive any necessary training, and will do whatever the OSCQ requires me to. I’m sure, by then, I will be able to offer a 15-day service continuously. Believe me, I’ll make full preparations and will be an excellent volunteer.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 10
Why do people play football? It’s a stupid game, and dangerous as well. Twenty-two men fight for one and a half hours to kick a ball into two nets. They get more black eyes than goals. On dry hard ground they break their bones or damage their muscles. Football players must be mad. And why do people watch football matches? They must be mad, too. They certainly shout and scream like madmen. In fact I’m afraid to go out when there’s a football match. The crowds are so dangerous. I’d rather stay at home and watch TV. But what happens when I turn it on? It’s showing a football match. So I turn on the radio. What do I hear? The latest football scores. And what do I see when I open a newspaper? Photos of football players, interviews with football players, reports of football matches. Football players are the heroes of the 21st century. They’re rich and famous. Why? Because they can kick a ball around. How stupid! Everyone seems to be mad about football, but I’m not. Down with football, I say.
