The food we eat seems to have profound effects on our health. Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep color in meats and other food additives(添加剂) caused cancer.
Yet , these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings(包装) of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin(青霉素) to their animals, and because of this, penicillin had been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes similar things are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit(利润).
The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get higher price on the market. Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.

Most Chinese people don't understand why some westerners don't eat meat. In China, to eat meat is a sign of wealth. If a westerner doesn't take a bite of their Peking duck, there is something wrong.
But many people in Europe and America choose not to eat or fish—they are known as vegetarians. In the US alone there 12 million vegetarians and 19,000 more people stop eating meat every week.
People often become vegetarians in order to lose weight or eat more healthily. A lot of research has shown that vegetarian diets are healthier than the average western diet. Fried chicken may be delicious to eat, but all that extra fat can damage your heart.
There are many other reasons for "turning veggie". It could be that you cannot afford to buy meat. Or maybe you just don't like the taste of it.
A large number of vegetarians choose to give up meat because they believe it is cruel to kill animals for food. They believe many animals are not allowed to live in comfort and, when they are killed, it is carried out in a very painful way.
While some vegetarians are happy not to eat animals, others take it one step further and refuse to eat any animal product. They are known as vegans and will not eat cheese, yoghurt and eggs, or drink milk. Neither will they wear clothes or shoes made from animal skin, such as leather. They say that if it is wrong to kill an animal for food, it is worse to kill it for clothing.
But there are some groups that go even further. Fruitarians believe it is wrong to kill any living plant or animal. Besides refusing to eat meat, they will only eat fruit and vegetables that have not been killed when harvested. This means they cannot take an apple from a tree: they must wait until the apple falls to the ground. Only then can it be considered dead.
61 A lot of _______ choose to give up meat because they believe it is cruel to kill animals for food.
A. vegans B. vegetarians C. fruitarians D. researchers

Children of America are getting fatter every time. 13% of the children at the age of 6 to 11 are overweight(too fat).
When we look at children's lives today in the USA, we can see the root(origin)of the problem--sports and foods. Young children like sports but they don't have enough around the start of high school. That's especially true for girls. Meanwhile, to make matters worse, schools are becoming much more interested in sports teams. So children are not able to get enough exercise just when they need it the most. There is also the food problem. Children get most of their calories(热量) at restaurants or parties or somewhere else away from home. They often drink too many Cokes. Parents have a lot of fears about telling a child he needs to lose weight-- they are afraid it will push a child into an eating disorder. Some parents fear that pushing children to lose weight means their children will think they're not good enough, or not loved because of their weight. Parents need to come to terms with the fact that the family is very important to the children. The most useful program for children is called "family weight control". This is good news. Mom and Dad, even if they don't have weight problems, have to go through the same program as their children and learn how to get some exercise and how to eat healthily.

Ⅱ.阅读表达(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分)
Eat a variety of foods ,especially fruits and vegetables. You may have a favorite food, but the best choice is to eat a variety. If you eat different foods, you are more likely to get the nutrients your body needs. Some foods, such as green vegetables, are more pleasing when you get older. Shoot for five servings of fruits and vegetables a day — two fruits and three vegetables.
Drink water and milk most often. When you’re really thirsty, cold water is the NO.1 choice. Kids need calcium to grow strong bones, and milk is a great source of this mineral. How much do kids need About 800 milligrams each day if you’re 6 to 8 and 1,300 milligrams if you’re 9 to older .But try to limit sugary drinks, like sodas, juice cocktails, and fruit punches. They contain a lot of added sugar. Sugar just adds calories, not important nutrients.
Listen to your body.
Whatever you eat, moderation6) is most important. What does it feel like to be full When you're eating, notice how your body feels. Sometimes, people eat too much because they don't notice when they need to stop eating. ___________ can make you feel uncomfortable, and over a period of time, it can lead to unhealthy weight gain. So remember to feed your body with the right amount of foods all the time. Avoid overeating, especially when you are eating with your friends, in which case it is most likely that overeating will happen.
Limit screen time. What’s screen time It’s the amount of time you spend watching TV, DVDs, and videos, playing handheld computer games, and using the computer. The more time you spend on these sitting-down activities, the less time available for active activities, like basketball, bike riding, and swimming. Try to spend more than 2 hours a day on screen time.
Get rid of bad habits.
Getting rid of bad habits like smoking and drinking alcohol is also an important way to keep healthy. Smoking and drinking alcohol injure one's health a great deal, and therefore should be given up. Unfortunately few people follow this advice. It is better to try and give up these things or at least do them less.

One possible version:
May I have your attention, please Now I’d like to make a speech here.
With the improvement of living standard, there are a lot of waste on campus. For example the students leave the lights on in the daytime, water running after washing and remains of a lot of food after eating on the table. Some of the students even ask their parents for pocket money. So it is high time that we had to deal with the problem. The reasons are as follows:
In the first place, the bad habit of being wasteful will have a bad influence on their own character. Secondly, it adds financial burden to their parents. Last but not least, it also exhausts the world's very limited natural resources, water and electricity.
But how to reduce the waste In my opinion, it is everybody's business to fight against waste. On one hand, I should start with myself to save everything. On the other hand, I'd like to remind my friends here to take the lead in reducing the waste.
Therefore, I’m sure, with everyone doing his bit, we will change the present situation the better.
That’s all. Thank you!

Text 10
My wife and I occasionally go to a nice restaurant to eat. My wife’s mother lives with us and she stays with the children. This makes it very easy for us to go out for the evening.
Our children don’t like to eat in restaurants because they have to sit and be quiet for a long time They would rather go to their grandmother’s farm. Their grandmother—my mother, prepares everything they like. She usually has fried chicken, corn, and hot biscuits with honey. She always serves plenty of chocolate ice cream and cakes for dessert.
I’m always surprised that my father doesn’t weigh a lot more though I see he eats so much. But he works very hard on the farm from about 5 o’clock in the morning until it gets dark in the evening.
When my parents visit us in the city, we usually take them to a restaurant. I know they enjoy it, but my father always eats something else after he gets home. He quantity may be large in the restaurant, but it is still not large enough for a hungry farmer.
