would

But
not
Diego
Rivera.
Diego
Rivera
(1886-1957)
was
one
of
modern
Mexico’s
most
famous
painters.
When
he
was
asked
to
paint
this
huge
picture,
he
knew
he
could
do
it.
During
his
life,
Rivera
painted
124
frescos
that
showed
Mexican
life,
history,
and
social
problems.
A
fresco
is
a
painting
on
wet
plaster
(灰泥).
Rivera
had
to
plan
ahead
and
drew
simply
about
what
he
planned
to
paint.
Then
Rivera’s
assistants
would
put
all
but
the
final
layer
(层)
of
plaster
on
the
wall.
Next,
they
used
sharp
tools
to
dig
the
outline
of
Rivera’s
quickly-made
drawing
into
the
plaster.
Then,
they
made
a
mixture
of
lime
(石灰)
and
sand
and
spread
this
over
the
outline
in
a
thin
layer.
As
soon
as
this
layer
was
firm
—
but
not
dry
—
Rivera
began
to
paint.
Every
morning,
his
paints
had
to
be
freshly
mixed.
Rivera
would
paint
as
long
as
there
was
daylight.
He
refused
to
paint
under
man-made
light
since
it
would
change
how
the
colors
looked.
Sometimes,
Rivera
would
say
that
what
he
had
painted
that
day
was
not
good
enough.
Then
he
would
insist
that
all
the
plaster
be
cut
off
so
he
could
start
again!
It
took
Rivera
years
to
finish,
but
this
fresco
is
thought
to
be
one
of
the
greatest
in
the
world.
The

Sadly,
audiences
—

—
are

Two
recent

that
among
children
as
young

those

always

smoking
in
the

are
up

2.7
times
more

others
to

the

Kids
from
non-smoking
homes
are
hit
the
hardest.
This
could
be
because
they
don’t
live
with
the
dirty
ashtrays
(烟灰缸)
that
make
real-world
smoking
a
lot
less
attractive
than
the
cleaned-up

“Seeing

makes
it

says
Jono

who
works
with
a
project
called
Smoke

“It
says,
‘If

Polansky

dozen

Like
former

Newborns

skills
long
before

And,
compared
to
adults,
they

these
skills
more
quickly.
People
have
a
hard
time
learning
new
languages
as
they
grow
older,
but
babies
have
the
ability
to
learn
any
language
easily.
For
a
long
time,
scientists
have
tried
to
explain
how
such
young
children
can
learn
the
complicated
(复杂的)
grammatical
rules
and
sounds
of
a
language.
Now,
researchers
are
getting
a
better
idea
of
what’s
happening
in
the
brains
of
the
tiniest
language
learners.
This
new
information
might
help
kids
with
learning
problems
as
well
as
adults
who
want
to
learn
new
languages.
It
might
even
help
scientists
who
are
trying
to
design
computers
that
can
communicate
like
people
do.
Most
babies
go
“ma
ma”
by
6

of

and
most

3.
For
many
years,
scientists
have
wondered
how
the
brains
of
young
children
figure
out
how
to
communicate
using
language.
With
help
from
new
technologies,
scientists
are
now
finding
that
babies
begin
life
with
the
ability
to
learn
any
language.
They
get
into
contact
(接触)
with
other
people,
listen
to
what
they
say
and
watch
their
movements
very
closely.
That
is
why
they
quickly
master
the
languages
they
hear
most
often.
Studies
show
that,
up
to
about
6
months
of
age,
babies
can
recognize
all
the
sounds
that
make
up
all
the
languages
in
the
world.
Starting
at
around
6
months
old
a
baby’s
brain
focuses
on
(集中于)
the
most
common
sounds
it
hears.
Then,
children
begin
responding
only
to
the
sounds
of
the
language
they
hear
the
most.
In
a
similar
way
older
babies
start
recognizing
the
patterns
that
make
up
the
rules
of
their
native
language.
For
example,
English
children
who
are
about
18
months
old
start
to
figure
out
that
words
ending
in
“-ing”
or
“-ed”
are
usually
verbs,
and
that
verbs
are
action
words.

of

does
the

A.

B.
Adults

C.
It’s

A.

B.

C.

D.

babies’

33.
The

out
that

by
_____.
A.
repeating
the

of
other

B.

Tips
for
memorizing
poems
If
your
teacher
wants
you
to
recite
a
long
poem,
you
can
learn
it
by
dividing
it
into
different
parts.
Here
are
a
few
tips
for
memorizing
the
poem.
☆
The
first
step
is
to
start
learning
it.
Begin
by
reading
the
poem
line
by
line
at
least
five
times.
36
If
you
find
some
word
which
you
do
not
know,
look
it
up
in
the
dictionary.
☆
37
That’s
because
the
lyrics
have
a
tune
(曲调)
to
them.
Though
you
do
not
have
to
set
the
poem
to
a
tune,
reading
it
more
than
once
will
help
you
in
understanding
its
rhythm
(韵律).
Here,
you
will
also
understand
the
areas
where
you
have
to
pause
and
the
exact
pronunciation.
☆
Then
close
the
book
and
try
to
recall
the
poem.
38
However,
you
do
not
have
to
worry
if
you
are
not
able
to
recall
anything.
☆
The
next
step
is
the
actual
memorization
process
(过程).
Break
the
poem
into
several
parts
and
then
repeat
each
one
of
them
line
by
line.
After
you
do
this
many
times,
try
to
recite
the
line
without
looking
into
the
book.
39
☆
Once
you
have
memorized
the
poem,
keep
on
practicing
till
you
are
able
to
recite
the
poem
fluently.

Memorizing
a

The
Black
Country
refers
to
(指)
an
area
of
England
in
the
west
Midlands — in
the
centre
of
England.
It
is
to
the
north
and
west
of
the
city
of Birmingham,
but,
very
importantly,
does
not
include Birmingham.
The
Black
Country
includes
the
boroughs
(自治城镇)
of
Dudley,
Sandwell,
Walsall
and
the
City
of
Wolverhampton,
with
the
town
of
Dudley
being
referred
to
as
the
Black
Country’s
capital.
The
population
of
the
area
is
about
1.2
million
people.
So,
why
is
it
called
the Black
Country
In
the
19th
century,
the
area
was
heavily
industrialised.
The
iron
and
steel
factories
all
used
local
coal
to
fire
their
furnaces
(熔炉).
And
this
produced
a
lot
of
black
smoke.
People
also
say
that
the
name
came
from
all
the
black
coal
that
appeared
on
the
surface
of
the
ground.
In
fact,
there
was
so
much
coal
that
the
soil
(土壤)
looked
black.
The
Black
Country
is
mostly
famous
for
its
association
(联系)
with
the
Industrial
Revolution
(between
the
18th
and
19th
centuries).
The Black
Country Living Museum in
Dudley
recreates
life
in
the Black
Country in
the
early
20th
century,
and
is
a
popular
tourist
attraction.
The
writer
JRR
Tolkien
is
also
associated
with
the
area,
and
his
parents
were
from Birmingham.
It
is
said
that
the land of Mordor from The
Lord
of
the
Rings novels
is
based
on
the
heavily
industrialised Black
Country area.
In
“Elvish”
language
“Mor-Dor”
means
“Dark Land”
and
in
the
novels
it
is
sometimes
referred
to
as
“The
Black
Country”.

the Black
Country
A.
Sandwell
is
its

B.
It

of

C.
Two
million
people
are
living

D.

C
Pierre
and
Marie
Lucien
lived
in Florida in
a
small
two-bedroom
apartment.
Their
monthly
rent
(房租)
was
$650. Pierre was
a
computer
programmer
and
Marie
was
a
homemaker.
They
dreamed
about
having
their
own
home,
but
Marie
wanted
to
stay
at
home
with
the
children
when
they
were
small.
When
their
son
entered
first
grade,
Marie
got
a
job
as
a
school
bus
driver.
They
were
finally
able
to
save
money
and
in
two
years,
they
had
$12,000
in the
bank.
They
wanted
a
home
in
a
town
with
good
schools
for
their
children
and
one
that
was
close
to
their
jobs.
They
spoke
to
a
real
estate
agent
(房地产经纪人)
and
she
suggested
that
their
first
step
was
to
get a
mortgage.
By
doing
this,
they
would
know
how
much
they
could
afford
to
spend
on
a
house.
So,
they
spoke
to
six
banks
about
mortgages.
They
chose
the
bank
with
the
best
mortgage
plan.
The
bank
checked
their
jobs
and
two
weeks
later
gave
them
a
mortgage
of
up
to
$125,000.
The
real
estate
agent
showed
the
Luciens
over
thirty
houses.
They
finally
found
a
home
that
they
liked.
It
was
$120,000.
They
offered
the
sellers
$115,000,
and
they
agreed
on
$117,000.
The
house
was
in
a
small
town
with
good
schools.
The
commute
(通勤)
was
about
fifteen
minutes
to
Marie’s
job
and
twenty
minutes
to
Pierre’s
job.
The
house
had
three
bedrooms,
two
bathrooms,
and
a
large
living
room.
It
didn’t
have
a
dining
room,
but
it
had
a
large
eat-in
kitchen.
There
were
a
few
problems,
too.
It
was
on
a
busy
street
and
it
didn’t
have
a
garage.
Finally,
the
Luciens
paid
$7,000
for
a
down
payment
(首付).
They
decided

D
My
name
is
Sara.
When
I
was
little,
I
played
the
drums.
I
also
had
a
guitar.
In
fourth
grade,
I
started
playing
the
trombone
(长号).
I
practiced
about
four
hours
a
week.
All
of
this
might
not
seem
like
a
big
deal
for
a
lot
of
kids,
but
there’s
something
about
me
that
makes
me
a
bit
different
from
others.
I
was
born
without
hands.
Since
I
was
about
one
year
old,
I’ve
worn
prosthetics
(假手).
This
year,
I
got
an
invitation
to
join
the
high
school
marching
band
(行进管乐队).
I
told
my
mom
I
wanted
to
do
it.
But
I
had
an
instructor
who
thought
I
would
not
be
able
to
march
in
the
band — not
because
it
was
a
high
school
band
and
I’m
only
in
seventh
grade,
but
probably
because
my
body
is
different.
All
I
wanted
was
to
show
that
I
could
do
it,
so
I
joined
the
band.
And
it
paid
off!
Music
gives
me
energy.
That
happens
sometimes.
One
time
I
was
so
down,
I
didn’t
even
want
to
get
out
of
bed.
Then
I
hit
my
mp3
player
by
accident.
A
song
came
on,
and
I
got
up
and
started
dancing.
It
helped
me
say
to
myself, OK,
I
can
get
through
today.
Around
my
musician
friends,
we
all
share
the
same
problems,
like
working
out
how
many
beats
there
are
to
a
measure.
I
have
a
hard
time
counting
the
beats,
but
so
do
a
lot
of
the
other
kids.
It’s
a
normal
problem
that
we
musicians
share.
When
I’m
with
the
band,
I
don’t
feel
as
different
as
I
do
in
other
situations.
It’s
just
another
way
that
music
makes
me
want
to
go
on,
and
not
to
just
sit
down
by
myself
and
not
care
about
life.
32.
In
what
way
is
Sara
different
from

body.

to
play
many
instruments.
C.
She
learned
to
play
the
drums
at
a
very
early
age.
D.
She
kept
playing
the
trombone
for
the
longest
hours.
33.
When
invited
to
join
the
marching
band,
Sara
_____.
A.
said
no
at
first
B.
had
no
idea
what
to
do
C.
followed
the
instructor’s
advice

feel
when
she’s
with
the
band

Five
tips
for
dealing
with
your
boss!
Do
you
have
the
best
boss
in
the
world
Or
the
worst
Either
way,
you
need
to
know
how
to
deal
with
him
/
her
if
you
want
to
be
happy
and
successful
at
work.
Here
are
our
top
tips.
Ask
There’s
a
saying
in
English: “If
you
don’t
ask,
the
answer
will
always
be
no.” Do
you
want
a
raise
or
a
holiday 36 Yes,
sometimes
it’s
scary
(令人害怕的),
but
it’ll
be
easier
if
you
plan
what
you’re
going
to
say
first.
37
Work
can
be
stressful
(有压力的).
But
always
remember
to
keep
your
cool
when
dealing
with
your
boss.
If
you
stay
calm,
you’ll
earn
their
respect
(尊重).
If
you’re
unhappy
about
something,
wait
until
you’ve
calmed
down
before
speaking
to
him
or
her.
Get
it
in
writing
If
your
boss
promises
you
something
(like
a
raise
or
a
holiday),
ask
for
it
in
writing.
That
way
you’ll
have
a
paper
trail. 38
Understand
your
boss
Every
boss
has
a
different
management
style.
Is
yours
a
micro-manager
or
are
they
hands-off
Are
they
organised
or
disorganised 39 Understand
their
style
so
you
can
decide
how
best
to
work
with
them.
Get
along
well
with
your
boss
You
see
your
boss
a
lot.
Almost
as
much
as
you
see
your
family!
So
try
to
stay
on
good
terms
with
him
or
her. 40
A.
Do
what
you
say
you’ll
do
B.
Learn
to
control
your
feelings
C.
Are
they
a
good
or
bad
communicator
D.
You
won’t
get
it
if
you
don’t
ask
your
boss.
E.
You
should
tell
your
boss
when
you’ve
made
a
mistake.
F.
If
they
suddenly
“forget”
what
they
said,
you
may
take
it
out.
G.
If
the
relationship
breaks
down,
your
job
will
be
even
more
stressful.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
The
Hash
House
Harriers
is
an
unusual
international
running
and
social
club.
Runs
are
organized,
which
are
followed
by
a
trip
to
a
public
house
afterwards
for
a
social
get-together.
The
run
is
a
fun
and exhilarating event.
A
group
of
people
known
as
the
“hares” lay
a
trail
(a
long
line
of
marks).
They
often
use
flour
(面粉)
or
toilet
paper
to
mark
the
trail.
The “hounds” are
the
runners.
They
must
follow
the
trail
and
try
to
get
to
the
end.
Sounds
easy
It
can
be,
but
it
can
also
be
difficult
as
the
hares
may
also
lay
a
false
trail.
Sometimes
the
hares
leave
a
few
minutes
before
the
hounds
and
the
hounds’
task
is
to
get
hold
of
the
hares
before
they
lay
the
trail.
There
are
now
more
than
1,500
Hash
House
Harrier
groups,
with
one
in
most
of
the
major
cities
around
the
world.
Hashing
began
in Kuala
Lumpur (Malaysia),
in
1938.
A
group
of
men
from
the UK,
Cecil
Lee, Frederick “Horse”
Thomson,
Ronald
“Torch”
Bennett,
and
Albert
Stephen
Ignatius
Gispert
would
meet
after
work
on
Monday
evenings
to
run.
They
often
followed
paper
trails
through
the
outskirts
of Kuala
Lumpur.
After
the
run,
the
tired
runners
would
often
go
to
a
public
house
for
a
few
drinks.
Later,
they
put
their
society
on
the
official
list.
Gispert
suggested
the
name
“Hash
House
Harriers”.
The
name
came
from
the
Selangor
Club
Annex
where
they
had
lived.
It
was
known
locally
as
the
Hash
House,
because
of
its
boring,
unimaginative
food.
The
word
“hash”
means
many
different
things
mixed
together
without
any
order.
There
are
many
traditions
involved
with
hashing.
They
include
no
pointing
with
fingers — you
have
to
use
your
elbows
(肘子),
no
using
real
names — you
have
to
use
nicknames
(绰号),
and
no
using
recently-bought
shoes.
The
traditional
symbol
of
hashing
is
the
outline
of
a
foot
with
the
words
“On-On”
written
on
it,
which
is
what
hashers
shout
when
they
have
found
the
trail.

Three
divers

a
hole
leading
to
a
water-filled
cave
on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
They
swim
for
an
hour.
Finally,
they
reach
a
large
room
60
feet
underground
and
about
the
size
of
two

Here,
they

Other

The
team
came
across
the

in
2007.
The
divers
then
told
the
Mexican

about
the

Soon
the
government
formed
a
team
of

to

it.
The

may
have
died
after
entering
the
cave,”
Rissolo
says.
Then,
when
the
ice
age
ended
some
ten
thousand
years
ago,
sea
levels
rose.
Water
flooded
the
cave,
covering
the
remains.
Worrying
that
moving
the
skull
might
destroy
it,
scientists
decided
to
examine
it
at
its
watery
resting
place.
They
collected
information
about
the
skull
and
other
pieces
of
bones.
They
found
that
the
bones
belonged
to
a
15-
to
17-year-old
girl
who
lived
at
least
twelve
thousand
years
ago.
The
team
named
her
Naia
after
some
sea
creatures
in
Greek
myths.
Naia
is
the
oldest
nearly
complete
human
skeleton
(骨架)
ever
found
in
the
Americas.
DNA
tests
showed
that
she’s
a
direct
ancestor
(祖先)
of
present-day
Native
Americans.
Naia’s
DNA
also
matches
with
people
native
to
Siberia,
a
part
of Russia.
Scientists
have
long
thought
that
ancient
people
from
this
area
arrived
in Alaska during
the
last
ice
age.
They
were
the
first
humans
to
live
in
the Americas.
And
Naia
proves
how
far
south
they
went.
(Mexico is
a
country
to
the
south
of
the US.)
In
2014
the
scientists
decided
to
bring
up
Naia’s
skull
from
the
cave
to
protect
it
from
curious
divers.
So
it
was
taken
to
a
lab,
where
it
remains
today.
