Dear
Jorge,
Are
you
enjoying
your
break
from
school
My
family
are
now
in Sacramento, California.
We
are
here
paying
a
visit
to
my
aunt
Gloria.
We
have
been
to
the
California State Capitol Building,
the
nature
center,
and
the
zoo.
I
have
seen
many
interesting
things,
but
one
stands
out
above
the
rest.
This
morning
we
drove
from
my
aunt's
home
to
Calistoga
to
see
California's
Old
Faithful
Geyser
(老忠实泉).
I
had
read
about
it
in
my
book, Sightseeing
in California:
Where
You
Should
Go. You
have
probably
heard
of
Old
Faithful,
the
geyser
farther
north
in Yellowstone National
Park.
This California geyser
is
sometimes
called
“Little
Old
Faithful.”
When
we
arrived California's Old
Faithful was
only
a
calm
pool
of
water.
The
geyser
didn't
look
very
deep. “What's
the
big
deal ” I
wondered.
As
I
turned,
I
saw
some
steam
(蒸气)
rising
from
the
water.
Before
I
knew
it,
there
was
hot
water
shooting
(射)
up
about
60
feet
into
the
air.
We
could
not
believe
our
eyes!
It
continued
for
almost
three
minutes.
Aunt
Gloria
told
me
that
the
water
came
from
an
underground
river.
She
also
said
that
the
water
temperature
was
about 95℃.
This
water
can
sometimes
shoot
170
feet
into
the
air.
My
aunt
said
that
other
geysers
around
the
world
reach
hotter
temperatures
and
shoot
water
even
higher
than California's
Old
Faithful
Geyser.
I'd
love
to
learn
more
about
this
geyser
and
other
geysers
in
different
countries
when
I
get
home.
I'll
see
you
soon!

Your
friend,

Bennetto

The
last
few
days
before
Christmas
passed
quickly
and
it
was
soon
Christmas
Eve.
That
night
when
everyone
went
to
bed,
Bunny
couldn't
sleep.
He
still
couldn't
think
of
what
he
wanted
his
Christmas
gift
to
be.
He
wondered
how
Father
Christmas
would
know
what
to
bring
him
if
he
didn't
know
himself.

As
he
was
sitting
up
in
bed,
Bunny
heard
a
big
noise
on
the
roof
(屋顶)
and
a
sound
downstairs.
It
was
Father
Christmas,
he
realized.
Bunny
jumped
out
of
bed
and
raced
down
the
hall
to
the
stairs
hoping
to
have
a
look
at
the
old
man
with
his
own
eyes.

By
the
time
Bunny
reached
the
bottom
of
the
stairs,
though,
everything
was
again
silent.
Beautiful
gifts
were
piled
(堆积)
under
the
Christmas
tree,
but
Father
Christmas
was
gone.
He
looked
for
him
for
a
few
minutes,
but
it
was
already
too
late.
Bunny
turned
to
climb
back
upstairs
when
he
heard
a
cry.

“Hello,”
said
Bunny.
“Is
somebody
there ”

He
was
answered
by
another
cry.
Bunny
looked
around
the
big
pile
of
gifts
to
see
what
was
making
the
noise.
Right
under
the
tree
was
a
funny
looking
brown
animal
with
big
feet
and
sad
eyes.
Bunny
might
have
mistaken
it
for
a
dog,
if
it
hadn't
been
for
the
antlers
(鹿角)
on
its
head.
“Are
you
a
reindeer
(驯鹿) ” asked
Bunny.
“Yes,”
replied
the
animal,
“my
name
is
Ralph.”
“And
you
were
pulling
Father
Christmas'
sled
(雪橇) ”

“I
was
until
I
got
airsick,”
replied
Ralph,
“I'm
afraid
I
wasn't cut
out
for the
job.
Now
I'm
stuck
here
and
I
don't
know
how
to
get
back
to
the
North
Pole.”

“Well,
if
you
like,
you
can
stay
with
us
as
a
friend,”
said
Bunny.
As
he
made
the
offer,
Bunny
suddenly
realized
the
gift
he
wanted
from
Father
Christmas
was
a
new
friend!

That
woman
carried
a
new
blanket
(毛毯)
over
her
arm.
Wordlessly,
she
gave
it
to
me.
“Is
it
finished ”
I
asked.
She
shook
her
head.
“No.
It
is
ready,”
she
replied.
I
handed
her
the
money
and
took
the
blanket.
“It
is
beautiful,
so
skillfully
woven
(编织),” I
said
to
my
mother. “But
what
did
she
mean
when
she
said
it
was
not
finished
How
can
it
be
ready
if
it
is
not
finished ”
“I
will
tell
you
later,”
my
mother
said,
“but
first
I
will
take
you
to
the
Navajo
village.”
We
went
down
to
the
village.
A
group
of
young
men
were
making
sand
pictures.
We
walked
through
the
whole
village,
watching
the
different
things
the
people
were
doing.
It
was
not
until
that
evening
that
my
mother
finally
explained
the
Navajo
woman's
words.
“Did
you
notice
anything
about
the
things
the
people
were
making ”
my
mother
asked.
“What
should
I
have
noticed ”
I
looked
at
her
and
asked.
“Each
thing
the
Navajo
make
has
one
small
part
that
is
not
complete.
The
designs
(设计)
in
their
sand
pictures
are
often
not
perfectly
done,
for
example —the
line
of
a
circle
may
not
quite
close.
If
you
look
carefully
at
your
blanket,
you
will
probably
find
a
stitch
(一针)
missing.”
I
took
the
blanket
off,
but
it
looked
as
perfect
as
any
design
could
be.
Then
suddenly,
I
noticed
that
sure
enough
a
stitch
was
missing!
“But
why
do
the
Navajo
intentionally
leave
some
tiny
part
unfinished ”
I
asked.
“They
believe
that
when
anything
is
completed
or
finished,
it
means
the
end
has
come

it
will
not
be
perfect
until
then.
Then
too,
with
a
circle,
they
believe
that
they
must
leave
a
pathway
for
the
bad
spirits
to
run
away
and
the
good
spirits
to
come
in.
So,
often,
they
do
not
make
the
line
close.”

blanket
the
author
received
_____.
A.
was

woven
B.
made
her
think
a
lot
C.
cost
her
a
lot
of
money

was
finished,
but

the
Navajo.

of

the
Navajo.

Students
from Oceanside High
School in Rockland will
be
able
to
sleep
in
a
little
longer
from
this
autumn.
Regional
School
Unit
13
Superintendent
(负责人)
Lew
Collins
said
during
the
school's
Thursday
night
meeting
that
the
schedule
(时间表)
for
the
schools
will
be
changed.
Oceanside
East
and
West
will
start
a
half
hour
later,
at 8
a.m.
for
their
new
school
year.
Research
has
shown
that
teenagers'
brains
are
often
not
fully
awake
at
6:30
a.m.
Collins
said
the
schedule,
which
is
used
to
get
students
to
school
for
classes
that
begin
at
7:30
a.m.,
calls
for
some
to
get
on
buses
before 6
a.m.
to
get
to
school
on
time.
Teachers
are
having
meetings
at
6:40
a.m.,
which
is
too
early,
he
thinks.
Collins
visited
the
high
schools
in Rockland and
asked
students
when
they
would
like
classes
to
begin.
Most
of
them
said
8:00
a.m.
“I
was
surprised.
I
thought
they
would
have
said
9:00
or
10:00,”
he
said.
The
National
Sleep
Foundation
says
on
its
website
that
teenagers'
biological
clocks
(生物钟)
are
designed
to
stay
up
later
and
get
up
later.
The
Foundation
called
for
schools
to
change
their
schedules,
which
means
a
later
start
as
well
for
elementary
students
(小学生).
We
do
not
have
enough
buses
to
run,
since
all
the
high
school
and
elementary
school
buses
run
almost
at
the
same
time,
Collins
said.
He
suggested,
“We
should
buy
six
more
buses
and
get
six
more
drivers
to
keep
the
new
schedule
working.”
Elementary
school
classes
in Rockland now
start
at
8:30
a.m.,
but
will
be
moved
to
8:45
a.m.,
starting
in
the
autumn.
“I
know
this
is
a
problem
for
working
parents,
but
we
will
see
what
we
can
come
up
with,”
said
Jane
Brown,
a
teacher
at Bardonia Elementary
School.
“Anyway,
I
believe
if
students
get
more
sleep
they'll
be
more
ready
to
learn
when
classes
start,”
she
added.
33.
A
new
schedule
will
be
made
to
_____.
A.
add
more
interesting
subjects
B.
help
students
do
better
in
class
C.
ask
parents
to
learn
about
schools
D.
cut
the
number
of
meetings
down
34.
One
of
the
problems
facing
the
schools
in Rockland is
that
they
will
_____.
A.
be
afraid
of
working
parents'
disturbance
B.
be
worried
about
children's
safety
C.
be
short
of
school
buses
D.
be
short
of
teachers
35.
What
does
Jane
Brown
think
of
the
new
schedule
A.
She
is
not
certain
about
it.
B.
She
is
not
interested
in
it.
C.
She
is
worried
about
it.
D.
She
is
hopeful
about
it.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How
to
make
friends
at
a
new
school
Starting
with
a
new
school
can
be
difficult.
Everything
seems
to
be
different,
and
you
don't
even
know
where
to
go
for
your
own
classes. 36 However,
if
you
use
these
skills,
you
can
quickly
turn
some
of
those
strangers
into
friends.
Be
yourself.
37 If
some
people
don't
accept
you,
they're
not
the
kind
of
friends
you
need.
People
often
stay
together
because
they
have
similar
interests.
For
example,
someone
who
does
a
lot
of
sport
may
make
friends
with
those
who
also
run
or
swim
a
lot. 38
Remember
to
be
nice
to
the
people
you
meet
at
your
new
school.
If
you
think
that
you
will
say
something
that
may
make
them
feel
sad,
do
not
say
anything
and
just
nod
your
head
if
they
talk
to
you.
Also,
remember
to
be
as
helpful
as
possible!
Believe
in
yourself.
A
smile
goes
a
long
way.
When
you
walk
in
the
halls,
don't
keep
your
eyes
on
the
floor.
Raise
your
head
and
make
eye
contact
(目光接触)
with
other
people. 39 Introduce
yourself.
Tell
them
your
name
and
where
you're
from.
Remember
people’s
names.
You
like
it
when
people
use
your
name,
and
so
do
other
people. 40 Besides,
ask
them
in
a
kind
way
if
they
have
a
nickname
(昵称).
You'd
be
surprised
how
often
this
might
come
in
handy.
A.
Be
friendly
to
others.
B.
Making
new
friends
can
be
hard,
too.
C.
Join
after-school
activities
you
like.
D.
Never
change
who
you
are
to
try
and
fit
in.
E.
If
you
see
someone
you
know,
smile
or
say
“Hi”.
F.
People
may
become
angry
if
you
just
begin
by
saying
“Hey”
each
time.
G.
Don't
sit
at
the
back
of
the
classroom
where
other
people
don't
notice
you!

pieces

all
around
me.
54 ,
there

a

in

so
I
put
the

over
my

the

my
package
of

I
nearly
dropped
it
in
my
surprise.
Then
I
saw
there
were
many
people
in
the
street.
A
woman
screamed
(尖叫)
as
she
saw
me
and
came
running 57 .
“My
baby!
My
baby!”
she
cried.
Those
people
cheered
loudly 58 she
took
the
smoke-blackened
package
out
of
my
arms.
I
almost 59 to
see
who
she
was

my
boss's
wife.
I
had 60 her
baby,
and
become
a
hero!
