1. To learn some useful reading strategies to read between lines and make inferences.
2. To learn some key words in context.
3. To learn a text about Mr. Bean and act out how he behaves in the fancy restaurant.
4. To enjoy the fun of life.

1. Develop the Ss’ ability to grasp information through reading and act out the comedy.
2. Use logic to make inferences in context.

Pre-reading
Step 1 1. Ss look at the photos displayed, think about the common feature of the people.2. Ss work in pairs to discuss the listed questions. T invites some pairs to talk about their favorite comedies.
Step 2 1. Ss work out the relevant phrases and do the comedy quiz in pairs.2. T introduces the topic and Ss get to know the objectives.
While-reading
Step 3 1. Ss read Para. 1, compare the original text with the text given on their work sheets, replace the underlined parts and discuss whether the two texts express similar meanings. T directs Ss attention to the key words and phrases in this part.2. Ss skim the rest of the text and complete the table on their work sheets.3. Ss read Para 2-4 for the second time and try to answer the listed questions by making inference.
Step 4 1.Ss write down the verbs in Para, 2 &3 to find out how Mr. Bean behaves.2. Several Ss act out how Mr. Bean behaves in the fancy restaurant.
Post-reading
Step 5 Ss work in pairs and summarize Mr. Bean’s characters in preparation for the preview of Text 2.
Step 6 Ss reflect whether they have achieved the objectives in this period.
