第三部分 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
(A)
When I stepped out the plane from Miami into Charlotte, North Carolina, airport for a connecting flight home, I immediately knew something was wrong. Lots of desperate people crowded the terminal. I quickly learned that flights headed to the Northeast were called off because of a storm. The earliest they could get us out of Charlotte was Tuesday. It was Friday. A gate agent stood on the counter and shouted, “Don’t ask us for help! We cannot help you!”
I joined a crowd that ran from terminal to terminal in search of a flight out. Eventually, I found six strangers willing to rent a van with me. We drove through the night to Washington, where I took a train the rest of the way to Providence.
The real problem, of course, is that incidents like this happen every day, to everyone who flies, more and more often. It really gets to me, though, because for eight years I was on the other side, as a flight attendant for Trans-World Airlines (TWA).
I know the days are gone when attendants could be written up if we did not put the lines napkins with the TWA logo in the lower right-hand corner of the first-class diners’ trays. As are the days when there were three dinner options on flights from Boston to Los Angeles in economy class. When, once, stuck on a tarmac(机场停机坪)in Newark for four hours, a planeload of passengers got McDonald’s hamburgers and fries by thoughtfulness of the airline. I have experienced the decline of service along with the rest of the flying public. But I believe everything will change little by little, because I remember the days when to fly was to soar (翱翔). The airlines, and their employees, took pride in how their passengers were treated. And I think the days are sure to come back one day in the near future.
Many people crowded the terminal because _______.
A. they were ready to board on the planes
B. something was wrong with the terminal
C. the flights to the Northeast were canceled
D. the gate agent wouldn’t help the passengers
57. How did the writer get to Providence at last?___
A. by air B. by van
C. by train D. by underground
58. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?______
A. Incidents happened to those who fly quite often.
B. The writer used to be a flight attendant for Trans-World Airlines.
C. Even a small mistake might cause complaints from passengers in the past.
D. McDonald’s hamburgers and fries were among regular dinner options.
59. What can be implied from the passage?____
A. The writer lived in Charlotte, North Carolina.
B. The writer thought the service was not as good as it used to be.
C. The writer with other passengers waited to be picked up patiently.
D. Passengers would feel proud of how they were treated on the plane.

Some people argue that the pressures on international sportsmen and sportswomen kill the spirit of sport: the pursuit (追求) of personal excellence. Children kick a football around for fun. When they get older and play for local school teams, they become competitive but they still enjoy playing. The sportsman representing his country cannot afford to think about enjoying himself, he has to think only about winning. He is responsible for an entire nation’s hopes and dreams.
A good example is the football World Cup. Football is the world’s most important sport. It is even more important now that the United States is seriously taking it up. Winning the World Cup is perhaps eh greatest of international sporting success. Mention “ Argentina ” to someone and the chances are that he’ll think of football. In a sense, winning the World Cup “ put Argentina on the map ”.
Sports fans and supporters get quite irrational about the World Cup. People in England felt that their country was somehow important after they won the World Cup. Last year thousands of Scots sold their cars, and even their houses, and spent all their money traveling to Argentina, where the finals were played.
So am I arguing that international competitions kill the idea of sport? Certainly not! Do the Argentineans really believe that because eleven of their men proved the most skillful at football, their nation is better than all others? Not really. But it’s nice to know that you won, and that in one way at least your country is best.
60. What is mainly discussed in this passage is _________.
A. why international sport is necessary
B. what international sport is like
C. how international sport goes on
D. what disadvantages international sport has
61. Those who are against international competitions think that ________.
A. sport should not be so popular B. sport should not be competitive
C. sport should be for personal purpose D. sport should be made easier
62. We can infer from the passage that the underlined word “ irrational ” means_________.
A. against reasonable behavior B. having much knowledge
C. unable to understand D. eager to know
63. What does the writer mean by saying that winning the World Cup “ put Argentina on the map”_____
A. Argentina has the best football player
B. Argentina has become world-famous for football
C. Football is very popular in Argentina
D. Argentina has begun to pay much attention to football
(C)
How to beat a bad mood
Having one of those days or weeks when everything seems to annoy you? Even if you do nothing about it, your bad mood will probably go away after some time. But with a little effort, you can forget it much faster, often within a day or two.
. Walk it off
Exercise is the most popular bad-mood buster. A person who’s in a bad mood has low energy and high tension. Taking a fast ten-minute walk, or taking some quick exercise can do wonders towards changing that bad mood.
. Tune it out
Listening to your favorite music for a while can also make tensions go away quickly, because music starts associations with past positive experiences we’ve had.
. Give yourself a pep talk
Stop and listen to what’s on your mind. Bad moods are often started by too many negative thoughts. Write them all down on paper; the pessimistic(悲观的)messages you’ve been giving yourself and then give optimistic answers. ( “I still don’t have a job.” vs. “I have two interviews next week. ”)
. Reduce your stress
Relaxation techniques are wonderful mood-lifters. These include deep breathing, stretching and visualizing(想象), all of which sound complicated but aren’t. One easy way to visualize; close your eyes and picture a favorite place, such as the beach. Another simple way to distress is to make a to-do list. One reason for being in a bad mood is feeling you have no options(选择权). By taking control over certain areas, you realize you’re not helpless. You can make changes in your mood and life.
. Avoid things that won’t improve your mood
TV may not help much: you need to increase your energy, level and stimulate your mind something that the TV show “Neighbors” won’t do. And before you reach for that piece of cake and coffee, think about how mood and food are linked. Sugar and caffeine contribute to depressed moods. The better choice? Research shows that carbohydrates, such as potatoes and pasta, produce a calming effect in people who have a desire for them.
64. We learn from the text that it might help rid us of a bad mood ________.
A. to do nothing about it
B. to take a long walk on the beach
C. to take some exercise with light music
D. to talk it to neighbors
65. Why is it suggested that you close your eyes and picture the beach?_____
A. It is not complicated to do so.
B. It is an area to be easily controlled.
C. It helps beat a bad mood.
D. It brings us a new technique.
66. TV may not improve your mood because ______.
A. it sometimes shows what happens around you
B. it keeps you stay unmoved
C. it reminds you of eating and drinking
D. it produces a calming effect
67. This text most probably appears in _______
A. a book on physical exercises
B. a doctor’s handbook
C. a notice
D. a magazine

New coins are coming out all the time. And did you know that the United States Mint makes some coins to collect rather than spend? One collecting kind is called “commemorative”—coins that honor famous people, places, and events. If you have coins to spend, those are called “circulating” coins.
2008 American Bald Eagle Coins celebrated an American success story: the bald eagle (秃头鹰). Congress passed an act to recognize the eagle, its importance as a national symbol, and its return from near extinction (灭绝) in the lower 48 states. The series celebrated the eagle’s recovery as well as the 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which had helped in the recovery.
The Founding Fathers chose the bald eagle as the Great Seal of the United States at the Second Continental Congress in 1782. Ever since, this bird has represented the spirit of freedom and democracy. The eagle also appears on the seals of many branches and departments of the United States government.
The bald eagle is a major symbol of democracy, standing for American values like freedom, courage, and strength. It has appeared in American art, music, history, literature, and culture. So, the bald eagle is very important to the United States.
This once?endangered species, unique to North America, is now making a gradual comeback. Classified as “endangered” in 1973 under the Endangered Species Act, this eagle was later moved to the less endangered “threatened” list, thanks to the law, caring people and organizations.
The bald eagle will probably be removed from the “threatened species” list, but the eagle won’t be “out of the woods” just yet. Wildlife agencies will need to keep an eye on the eagle for at least 5 years after it’s taken off the list. Part of the surcharge (额外费用) on the bald eagle coins can be used to help this work.
72.What does the text mainly talk about?_____
A. The United States Mint.
B. American commemorative coins.
C. The bald eagle coins and the bald eagle.
D. The living habits of the bald eagle.
73.According to the text, commemorative coins are_______.
A. mainly made to spend
B. used to remember the bald eagle
C. often in honor of famous people, places, and events
D. not popular with collectors
74.Which of the following is one of the reasons why 2008 American Bald Eagle Coins were made?____
A. The Endangered Species Act being passed.
B. The request of many coin collectors.
C. The decision of the Founding Fathers.
D. The recovery of the bald eagle.
75.What can be inferred from the text?_____
A. The bald eagle has a great effect on Americans.

D. The bald eagle will soon be out of people’s sight.
第II卷(非选择题,共35分)
第一节 任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词
In addition to self-awareness, imagination, and conscience, it is the fourth quality — independent will — that really makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in agreement with them. It is the ability to act rather than to be acted upon, to actively carry out the program we have developed through the other three qualities.
The human will is an amazing thing. Time after time, it has overcome unbelievable difficulties. The Helen Kellers of this world give dramatic(给人深刻印象的) evidence to the value, the power of the independent will.
But as we examine this quality in the context of effective self-management, we realize it’s usually not the dramatic, the visible, the once-in-a-lifetime, up-by-the-bootstraps(自立自强的) effort that brings lasting success. This special ability comes from learning how to use this great quality in the decisions we make every day.
The degree to which we have developed our independent will in our everyday lives is measured by our personal honesty. Honesty is, fundamentally, the value we place on ourselves. It’s our ability to make and keep promises to ourselves, to “walk our talk.”
Effective management is putting first things first. While leadership decides what “first things” are, it is management that puts them first, day-by-day, moment-by-moment. Management is discipline (training to be self-controlled), carrying it out.
Discipline obtains from belief—belief in a set of values, belief in an overriding(最主要的) purpose, to a long-term or short term goal that must be carried out.
In other words, if you are an effective manager of yourself, your discipline comes from within; it is a fun_ction of your independent will. You are a follower of your own deep values and their source. And you have the will, the quality to control your feelings and moods rather than depend on others or have your work half done.

参考范文:
According to the World Forum on Water Resources, all countries in the world now, especially developing countries, are facing water shortages, which is leading to many serious problems and even threatens the health of people. It’s time to take action.
I think that we should do all that we can to save water. Firstly, we should try not to leave the tap running while we brush our teeth, wash our hands or clean vegetables. Secondly, we can wash vegetables and fruits in a basin rather than under a running tap so that the leftover water can be used for watering house plants or cleaning the floor. Also, we should take a shorter shower and place a bucket in the bathroom to catch excess water. Never
think that these things are not worth doing. Every drop counts and we can make a difference.
