过去进行时(一)
一、过去进行时的基本用法
1. 过去进行时表示过去某一具体时刻正在进行的动作。常与at that time, at that moment, at this time yesterday, at nine yesterday morning, then等表示过去的时间状语连用。
例:—What were you doing at seven o’clock last night 昨晚7点你正在干什么?
— I was watching TV. 我正在看电视。
They were sleeping at this time yesterday. 昨天这个时候他们正在睡觉。
2. 过去进行时还可表示过去某一段时间內正在进行的动作,常与those days, that week, yesterday, last winter等时间状语连用。 21世纪教育网版权所有

3. 除此以外,过去进行时还常常出现在讲故事的语境中,用来描绘一幅景象。

二、过去进行时的各种基本句型的构成:
过去进行时句子中的谓语部分由“was/ were+动词的现在分词”构成,与现在进行时结构相似,只是把现在进行时中的am/ is/ are变成了was/ were。由此可总结过去进行时的句式结构如下表:
肯定句 主语+was/ were+现在分词 I was doing my homework at eight last night. 昨晚八点我在做作业。
否定句 主语+was/ were+not+现在分词 I wasn’t helping my father in the garden at this time yesterday. 昨天这个时间,我没有在花园里帮爸爸干活。
一般疑问句 Was/ Were+主语+现在分词?Yes, 主格代词+was/ were; No, 主格代词+wasn’t/ weren’t. —Were you doing housework at that time 在那时你在做家务吗?—Yes, I was./ No, I wasn’t. 是的,我在做。/不,我没在做。
特殊疑问句 特殊疑问词(不作主语)+was/ were+主语+现在分词?特殊疑问词(作主语)+was/ were+现在分词? What were you reading this morning 今天上午你在读什么?Who was playing basketball here last night 昨天晚上谁在这里打篮球?
三、过去进行时和一般过去时的用法区别
过去进行时强调过去某一时刻或时段正在进行或持续的动作。而一般过去时表示在过去的时间里所发生的动作,所表示的动作已经完成。
例:I was washing my clothes at three o’clock yesterday afternoon. 昨天下午三点我正在洗衣服。
I washed my clothes yesterday afternoon. 昨天下午我洗了衣服。

在英语书面表达中,有时要求根据所给材料描述过去某个时间发生的故事或某个人的经历。主要以叙述故事发生的过程为中心内容。在写此类短文时,要根据要点提示简明扼要地叙述,适当展开联想;最后简要阐明自己对这件事的看法。
此类短文既然是谈论过去的经历,那么写作时应以一般过去时和过去进行时为主。另外要注意,在同一时段中的动作、状态应该用同一种时态,这样前后呼应。
