wait for sb. / sth.意思为"等候某人/某物"。例如:
I’ll wait for you forever.
We’ve been waiting for the bus for half an hour.
wait for sb. / sth. to do意思为"等着某人做某事或某事发生"。例如:
You must wait for permission to enter. I can’t wait for this week to end.

wait for 与expect的区别:wait 重在动作上的"等",可接具体的时间,意思偏重于"专门在等",很少可能做别的事。例如:
He said he would be waiting for me at 8:00 at the school gate tomorrow morning.
expect重在心理上的"盼",在这个动作发生时还很有可能在做别的事, 倾向于"边做边盼"。例如:
These days I’m expecting a letter from my father.
另外在短语wait on中,1) on 为副词时意思为"继续等待"；2) on为介词时意思为"侍候/招待某人"。例如:
We waited on for another hour, but she still didn’t turn out.

depend on / upon sb.( to do sth.)意思为"依靠/相信/需要……提供(资金/帮助等)"。例如:

My sister Carrie hasn’t been able to speak since she was born. Although I can’t sing songs with her, or even quarrel with her as other sisters do, I never feel there is a gap of communication between Carrie and I. Everybody in my family learnt sign lan-guage, so there is no need for us to worry that we can’t read Carrie’s "language". However, Carrie and I can always feel what the other is going to say without any words or signs, and it’s not through magic. We can understand each other so well because we love each other. Sometimes, love is the most powerful language in the world.
