Dear Alan,
I’m glad to hear that you are going to visit Taizhou in the approaching New Year’s Day. I’ll tell you something about the body language in China.
People in Taizhou are warm-hearted and enthusiastic.
You are likely to be invited to have a feast with your friend’s
family on New Year’s Eve. In general, we will chat a lot while eating. When spoken to, you are not supposed to turn your back to the speaker. Neither should you look away from him, which is considered to be the good manners to show respect for people. In most cases, if you agree to what others say, you can show agreement with nodding your head up and down .
Welcome to Taizhou and hope what I say can make your visit to Taizhou at ease and pleasant.
Enjoy yourself in Taizhou.

Analysis of the teaching material
This unit is about the various expression of body language in different cultures and the misunderstanding of them will definitly cuase difficulties in daily communication especially between people from two cultures. More attention should be paid to students’ usage of important phrases and sentence patterns in their expression of different body language.
Teaching objectives
According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus as well as my further analysis of the teaching material and students’ learning ability, I summarize the teaching objectives of this revision lesson as follows:
1) Knowledge objective: students are required to learn and use the important words, phrases, and sentence patterns in this unit.
2) Ability objective: students are trained to use the key words, phrases and sentence patterns to express body language in different cultures.
3) Learning strategy objective: students are encouraged to develop independent thinking ability and co-operative learning ability.
4) Moral objective: This revison lesson enables students to have a deeper understanding of the key point that learning a language is inseparable from learning its culture.
Teaching difficult and important points
The teaching important and difficult points are:
how to assist students’ expression of body language in difficult cultures.
how to help students master the important phrases and sentence patterns to contribute to their better understanding of the cultural body language.
how to help students write down their own thoughts according to their life experience.
Teaching methods and aids
In order to better achieve the teaching objectives, stress the important points and break through the difficult points, I mainly employ the communicative teaching approach and task-based teaching approach. The former calls for the establishment of a real scene where authentic interaction occurs between the teacher and students; and the latter requires students’ effective carrying out of the pre-designed tasks in the given time. Meanwhile, I make full use of the modern electric equipment in my teaching such as multi-media and tape recorder.
Analysis of the students
Students who attend my class are senior school students in Grade Two. According to my students’ mode of thinking, their concrete thinking mode still plays a very important part in their learning. Therefore, in my teaching, tasks are designed step by step in the sequence of difficulty degree for them and students’ learning strategies are employed effectively to assist their internalization of the important words, phrases and sentence patterns.
